Sober Not Mature

It's the season finale, Valentines Day Spectacular, with your pals, Mike and Bill.

Mike started out with his reading and it was appropriately about love. We used to love things that were bad for us, but now we have learned to be loving, rather than look for love. It's a weird concept for many of us, but we had a good talk about it.

We have a guest coming up next week and he has a book that we will talk about with him. It was also featured on The Sober Curator.

Then it was how many f*cks, truck driving, Dr. Sarah and another podcast, a book review, Demi Moore, scissoring, The Gulf of whatever and an article about bad drivers.

On a sad note, a buddy of ours from Cleveland died this week. He was one of us, and he is leaving behind the hurt and pain that is expected when we don't do the work that we need to do.

Enjoy the episode.

Bill
All right, everyone, welcome once again to another episode of Sober, Not Mature. And today, well, a couple of things. Today's the day of love, VD, the D and the V day, or is it the V and the D day?

00:00:11.06
Mike
It is.

00:00:14.64
Mike
Yes.

00:00:14.84
Bill
yeah Well, okay, so it was the VD day, but the D goes in the V.

00:00:14.92
Mike
so Well, you know, it depends.

00:00:19.88
Bill
If you're lucky enough, if the D has a V, the V, well, the V can always get D, but can the can the D always get V?

00:00:20.29
Mike
Right.

00:00:25.45
Mike
Right.

00:00:27.20
Bill
No.

00:00:27.38
Mike
Hmm. No, if that's what you're into, you know, I mean, it could be DD day or VV day or whatever, you know, whatever, any combination.

00:00:29.77
Bill
It's, yeah.

00:00:34.60
Bill
And it's a god good point. Okay, side note, um speaking of of V and the V, so did you listen to Mark Marin with Mo, the comedian Mo? God, why can't I think of her last name now? She's a female comedian that he had on last week, I think.

00:00:52.30
Mike
I did not.

00:00:52.34
Bill
um and I don't know if I've ever heard of her but in talking about she's openly she's open about her lesbianism and whatever goes up on stage and you know ah jokes about that's like big part of her act but um I don't know she had she was talking about something and either somebody either dm'd or so something about scissoring you know and she goes she's like no she goes

00:00:56.99
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:01:11.40
Mike
All right.

00:01:13.54
Bill
She goes, that happens about as often as 69 for a normal couple. She said, you know, either when you're newly in there and on drugs or something like that, but she's drunk around drugs, but she's like, yeah, we don't go around scissoring all the time, just so everyone knows.

00:01:23.92
Mike
yeah

00:01:31.16
Bill
And I'm like, wow, note to self, okay. I did not know that, so. Speaking of scissoring, Tom, it had nothing to do with anything, but you said V in the V, so that's your fault you brought that up.

00:01:41.95
Mike
and Okay. I, I, I will take that all. and Yeah. know I said D and D too. So, you know, no, right.

00:01:46.13
Bill
Yeah, yeah, you did. i get I got no jokes about that. i mean hey but you know we've been We've been very open about that. We don't give a shit what you do as long as you're not fucking fucking around with not ruining somebody's life. you know Just speak be good to whatever.

00:01:58.02
Bill
Whatever you want to do with with your body and your D and your V, fucking be happy with that. I'll give a shit.

00:02:02.57
Mike
Absolutely. And while we're going on here, I looked at someone named Mo Welsh.

00:02:08.43
Bill
There you go, there you go. And it was, some ah first of all, they they started talking about, she did this YouTube thing because she um she does this whole thing, it was called dad jokes or whatever, that's her comedy specialists on YouTube.

00:02:19.97
Mike
Okay.

00:02:20.13
Bill
So I ended up watching that because they were talking about it. So I watched that, you know, and then finished the episode. she's She's enjoyable and they had a good conversation. It was a lot of fun, I mean, listening to them. um but i never heard of her before but yeah it's it's interesting but yeah she's she's she was good it was just a great conversation but um yeah she's she said that for whatever reason here's the other thing she's like she seems to attract you know a lot of like military people soldiers and stuff like that she's like she'll get a lot of you know these guys dm and it was like oh you know god bless america we're back blah blah blah

00:02:31.83
Mike
Yeah.

00:02:37.34
Mike
Cool. Okay.

00:02:52.01
Bill
And like, if hey, if you ever come through wherever, um you know, look me up, I'll ah buy you a steak.

00:02:52.00
Mike
Hmm. Right.

00:02:57.24
Bill
And then she's like, you know, kind of like, okay, whatever. And then the guy's like, what does, I guess, this one guy said to her, he's like, hey, he goes, that lesbian character that you do, that's great, that's a lot of fun.

00:03:04.95
Mike
or

00:03:06.58
Bill
yes She's just like, she's like, yeah, it's not a character.

00:03:10.49
Mike
Right.

00:03:12.33
Bill
Let's meet a character you do on stage.

00:03:13.79
Mike
yeah God.

00:03:14.87
Bill
Her entire fucking act is she openly is like, i this is me.

00:03:18.26
Mike
Right.

00:03:18.55
Bill
you know and She's not trying to hide it.

00:03:18.83
Mike
Yeah. Hi. Yeah.

00:03:21.98
Bill
you know

00:03:22.25
Mike
Right. yeah Well, apparently, you know, that's the only way people can accept something. All that character you do, because it can't be real.

00:03:30.19
Bill
yeah Right, let me buy you a steak, because you like like dudes like me that want to buy you a steak.

00:03:34.64
Mike
Right.

00:03:34.73
Bill
That's a and some chick that you're that you're married to and have a child with, but yeah, exactly.

00:03:35.53
Mike
Jesus Christ.

00:03:38.53
Mike
Right. God.

00:03:40.90
Bill
so All right, so ah enough of the V and the D, I think, for now. Maybe we'll get back to scissoring later. I'm fine with it.

00:03:46.19
Mike
I'm sure we will.

00:03:47.24
Bill
I'd be more than happy to talk more about it. um But today, and I started doing the math, I don't know, I thought about a couple weeks ago, today is the end of this episode, it's the end of season six.

00:03:54.31
Mike
Mm hmm. Oh, right.

00:03:57.51
Bill
Not that anyone gives a fuck.

00:03:59.17
Mike
Not that it means a goddamn thing.

00:03:59.22
Bill
um The only thing it means is we've done 26 episodes in a row and we decided the only reason that we, just to kind of recap for everyone, not that you care, but it was just on our website, our episodes were split into season and to make it more manageable if people were looking up, trying to look up our episodes, that's the only reason I thought of splitting it that way.

00:04:04.43
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:04:09.55
Mike
Right.

00:04:18.13
Mike
Right.

00:04:21.57
Bill
And then I'm like, I don't know, other people are doing it like twice a year and Mike's like, I don't care, whatever.

00:04:21.95
Mike
right

00:04:27.08
Mike
Right.

00:04:28.75
Bill
but what was it a couple months ago when I asked what season we were in you're like I don't know three but but but again I mean it means nothing it's 26 episodes in a row and that's all that a fucking it fucking means and I literally have to sit down and do the math every time we have to split it out so hi a reminder popped up and it's like oh okay I guess today is the day so season finale

00:04:38.88
Mike
yep

00:04:42.27
Mike
thanks Right. The grand finale.

00:04:51.09
Bill
and maybe we'll be back, who fucking knows, right?

00:04:53.01
Mike
um Right.

00:04:55.31
Bill
But other other quick things here, we do have a ah guest coming up next week, we'll talk about that.

00:05:00.40
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:05:00.63
Bill
um One of our good friends, a previous guest, was on another podcast this week, I wanna mention that.

00:05:06.27
Mike
Yeah.

00:05:06.34
Bill
um Got a book review, wanna just mention, that's kinda my old thing, wanna mention, and then, um

00:05:10.10
Mike
Right.

00:05:11.61
Bill
in that same individual wants to come on the podcast, I'll explain why again. um But on a on a side note, and I'm sure you saw it too, I'm gonna bring the room down here for a minute, but it's a fact that this whole thing that we do, um our buddy in Cleveland died, Derek.

00:05:18.48
Mike
Hmm. Yes, yes.

00:05:26.97
Bill
So yeah I've got a son named Derek, I've been talking about my son, Derek T.

00:05:31.11
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:05:31.83
Bill
in Cleveland.

00:05:32.93
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:05:33.29
Bill
um Good friend of ours, it was he was in the Keating Center when we first got there, right?

00:05:37.21
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:05:37.25
Bill
Or shortly after that? Okay, that's what I thought.

00:05:38.65
Mike
Yeah, right. I've used there with us at some point. Yes, definitely.

00:05:41.44
Bill
That's what I thought. Okay. But, um, I don't know any details. I pretty much know what happened.

00:05:45.31
Mike
Hmm.

00:05:46.64
Bill
Um, he's one of us and I, I know his story.

00:05:49.59
Mike
Right.

00:05:49.73
Bill
Um, but, um, either way, I, I would feel remiss not talking about it.

00:05:53.84
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:05:54.00
Bill
So that's, you know, something we, I think would be a good idea to talk about because you know what, it's, it's a fucking part of this whole goddamn thing, whether we like it or not, we don't like it.

00:06:01.03
Mike
It is. Yup. No, we don't, but it's there. Right. We don't have to like it. It is. It exists.

00:06:08.40
Bill
Yeah, and everything we we already talk about and just as is a brief thing right now is the um the ripple effect, the negative ripple effect I've already seen. um And it's fucking terrible, you know, and it just, it, again, it just did, I don't know, we'll talk about it.

00:06:18.55
Mike
he

00:06:22.45
Bill
So, so there, can we go back to talking about scissory?

00:06:23.54
Mike
Right. Right.

00:06:26.99
Bill
That's, that's more fun.

00:06:29.63
Mike
It is. Yes, absolutely.

00:06:32.49
Bill
But, um,

00:06:32.63
Mike
And, uh, and while, and a shout out to Marty and Michelle, uh, Gracie, they had to put her down today.

00:06:38.36
Bill
Oh, did they see I and I saw that I saw that she went into the um and that's Marty we talked about Michelle we talked about but um yeah, and they had and she was like a little poodle or shih tzu or

00:06:39.11
Mike
Yeah.

00:06:45.28
Mike
Right. The directors of the Keating center, male and female, right. And they're married and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And yes. Yep. So one day, I don't know, some little white thing.

00:06:58.67
Bill
Yeah, but um she should kind of look like almost look like Katniss and tugger.

00:06:59.19
Mike
Yeah.

00:07:01.99
Bill
I mean, she was a little dog like that, but.

00:07:02.56
Mike
Yeah, little mop.

00:07:04.60
Bill
Right, but the the the thing that I remember about that, I remember when Marty and Michelle first got together.

00:07:09.09
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:07:09.53
Bill
How long have they been together 78 years, something like that?

00:07:11.55
Mike
Well, yeah, ah probably.

00:07:11.81
Bill
If I'm.

00:07:13.15
Mike
Yeah, yeah.

00:07:14.58
Bill
at least right.

00:07:15.39
Mike
Right.

00:07:15.89
Bill
Um, and when they first got together and I think when they yeah obviously like when they moved in and I remember Marty, we were someplace and Marty's like, God damn it. She wants to get a dog.

00:07:23.67
Mike
Uh huh.

00:07:24.22
Bill
He's like, I'm not, I don't want to get a dog. We're not getting a fucking dog.

00:07:25.71
Mike
Uh huh.

00:07:26.75
Bill
There's no way we're getting a fucking dog.

00:07:26.89
Mike
Right.

00:07:28.00
Bill
Guess what?

00:07:28.79
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:07:28.81
Bill
They got a fucking dog and that's Gracie.

00:07:30.23
Mike
Right. Yes.

00:07:31.44
Bill
And, and I mean it.

00:07:32.04
Mike
And Marty fell fucking in love. That was, yeah.

00:07:34.54
Bill
Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

00:07:38.12
Mike
No way I'm getting a dog.

00:07:38.14
Bill
But

00:07:39.08
Mike
Oh my God. This dog is the most wonderful thing in the fucking world.

00:07:40.75
Bill
ha yep yeah it's And Marty even posted today, and i but maybe it was after after they put her down, I didn't see all the comments, but um you know he said, yeah, he goes, damn, he goes, that was, you know she's our baby, you know type of thing.

00:07:51.77
Mike
Yup.

00:07:52.42
Bill
So, and that's that's what she was, but which and it it it is.

00:07:54.27
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:07:55.68
Bill
I mean, that's animals are no longer you know tied up in the backyard, hopefully, you know with people, and animals are actually part of the family, and animals sit on the couches and lay on the beds, and you know they're there there youre they're your family.

00:08:00.09
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm. Yup.

00:08:08.46
Bill
So, but, well, that's too bad. I mean, yeah, Candles, it's out to them.

00:08:10.32
Mike
yeah

00:08:11.55
Bill
That's that's a shame.

00:08:12.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:08:12.97
Bill
So, all right, so we brought down the room again.

00:08:17.89
Mike
Try to come out of these goddamn Uptempo records and you give me a dead dog story. If anybody knows what that reference is, God bless you. Email me.

00:08:29.45
Bill
I think I could guess where it came from, but but I don't know. I'm not going to say it.

00:08:33.81
Mike
it's No, it's it's ah Casey Kasem.

00:08:33.95
Bill
You can.

00:08:36.70
Mike
It's an outtake from when he was doing the American Top 40.

00:08:40.29
Bill
Oh, was it?

00:08:41.07
Mike
And he rants out, oh, it's ah it's a beautiful tape. I'm sure it's on YouTube. I've heard it on radio shows left and right. They play it. It's Casey Raven out. And yeah, coming out of these goddamn uptempo records, and I got a dead dog story.

00:08:59.21
Bill
That's two things. Does anyone know who Casey Kasem is anymore?

00:09:02.39
Mike
Probably not.

00:09:02.42
Bill
Look them up.

00:09:03.43
Mike
Well, yeah, it's our listeners.

00:09:03.70
Bill
Look them up. No, I know. But yeah, that's true. We still have a majority of our listeners are are of of our age or right within that range. But um you know I was thinking it was like a WKRP type of thing.

00:09:15.69
Bill
That's what it sounded like to me when you said that.

00:09:16.65
Mike
Right.

00:09:17.57
Bill
I would have guessed that, not Casey Kasem. That's even more fucking funny than it's Casey Kasem.

00:09:23.20
Mike
u

00:09:24.68
Bill
Oh, speaking of that real quick, I just said the F word. Okay. So Mike guess last episode, cause I I've been forgetting to obviously check on these things or even pay attention to them.

00:09:28.40
Mike
Yes.

00:09:35.15
Bill
Last episode last week, how many fucks did we have?

00:09:40.18
Mike
Uh, I'm turning on the let's see last week. What the hell are we doing? Um, you know, I, I want to say it was a little low.

00:09:48.01
Bill
Hmm, okay, you you'd be wrong.

00:09:48.74
Mike
Um, I'd be wrong.

00:09:50.89
Bill
You'd be wrong. Yeah, go go the other direction and look, kind of reach for the like the high.

00:09:55.13
Mike
Reach Ray Casey case of reach for the stars.

00:09:58.29
Bill
Yeah, reach reach for the stars.

00:09:59.02
Mike
Keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars.

00:10:00.69
Bill
yeah reach Reach higher than you think we've we've gone before.

00:10:05.57
Mike
Uh, wow.

00:10:06.64
Bill
And I and i and i checked twice.

00:10:06.69
Mike
Well, I, I believe. Okay. ah Did we hit 200?

00:10:11.49
Bill
We did 210.

00:10:12.09
Mike
Oh, all right. Woo hoo.

00:10:17.62
Bill
I seriously, I was just, ah I don't know whatever whatever day it was. I'm sitting down and I put in there cause I do the the transcript. I put this through, I'm like, oh fuck, I haven't done this in a while. um So I did, you know, you just do a word search and in a word document.

00:10:28.79
Bill
So I got to put it in a word document and then throw it into, in the pod page.

00:10:29.91
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:10:32.37
Bill
And I looked at him like, That can't be right.

00:10:34.87
Mike
yeah

00:10:35.16
Bill
and it's And it's even after, because I take i take your name, I take the fuck knuckle part and I replace that. I have a find it, replace replace it with Mike. So in our transcripts, it says Mike and Bill.

00:10:46.54
Mike
yeah

00:10:46.93
Bill
um So I mean, it's not even, all these things are not even including the fuck in your fuck knuckle name, you know? And I mean, because that shows up. I mean, your name shows up like four or 500 times in an episode, you know, where mine shows up.

00:10:59.84
Mike
No, I mean I could change that to make it easier for you.

00:11:03.85
Bill
No, it takes literally, it takes four seconds, you know?

00:11:06.37
Mike
Okay. Well, good.

00:11:07.11
Bill
Because you do a search and i I type in search for fuck knuckle, replace with mic, click, and it goes brrt, and it just does it all.

00:11:11.01
Mike
Mm-hmm. Ah. Oh, okay.

00:11:15.74
Bill
And 517 of them, it's like replaces them all. But um it used to, when we first started doing this, my name was my email address for some reason, for when we signed up.

00:11:24.63
Mike
Hmm.

00:11:26.43
Bill
um So I used to have to do both of them, but now it it grabs my name for some reason and you know, you're fucked uncle, it's fine. it's and I mean, I like the fact that it's on the episode, but I just figured in the transcript, it's easier, it's easier to, you know, more more clean that when it's going out to all these places.

00:11:36.55
Mike
Sure.

00:11:40.36
Bill
And I want to make sure the transcript gets picked up, you know.

00:11:41.26
Mike
Right.

00:11:43.92
Bill
It's some fucking tight ass Google or Apple or whoever the fuck these people are.

00:11:45.68
Mike
Right.

00:11:48.06
Bill
It could be like, well, there's a lot of fucks in this transcript.

00:11:50.12
Mike
damn

00:11:52.94
Bill
574, what?

00:11:54.03
Mike
right

00:11:56.60
Bill
But yeah, so 200 and 210 which I think I think that's our that's our record.

00:11:57.44
Mike
Yeah.

00:12:00.76
Bill
So Yeah without even literally without even trying without I mean I were we mad about something last week.

00:12:01.89
Mike
that yeah beautiful Beautiful.

00:12:08.23
Bill
I don't think so Hey,

00:12:08.98
Mike
No, i' right. like I said, i I mean, I, you know, kind of thought back a little bit when I thought we were a little low last week.

00:12:16.24
Bill
you're funny you're like kind of last week was good. I wasn't pissed off about anything We talked about light light stuff and Twitter 10.

00:12:19.50
Mike
yeah

00:12:22.24
Bill
What the hell?

00:12:22.41
Mike
he So apparently we say fuck more when we're happy.

00:12:27.71
Bill
Uh, you know what? Fucking a right. All right. So, all right.

00:12:30.08
Mike
That's right.

00:12:31.51
Bill
So, um, 12 and a half minutes into this, we're, ready are we ready for a reading yet? Let's get back to some basics here.

00:12:35.89
Mike
hey

00:12:37.09
Bill
yeah

00:12:37.76
Mike
I mean that or I could play the Casey Kasem tape because I just found it.

00:12:41.46
Bill
Did you, you know what? I mean, would I, I would love to, but I, I am scared to death of any sort of copyright type of things.

00:12:47.19
Mike
Well, I mean it's YouTube and yeah, I mean it's been played on like I said, dozens of radio shows.

00:12:47.30
Bill
I don't know if.

00:12:52.81
Mike
I know other people play it.

00:12:55.50
Bill
Okay, and if you if you can get that exact clip and let's let's hear it.

00:13:01.84
Mike
And this one is about kids and pets and a situation that we can all understand, whether we have kids or pets or neither. It's from a man in Cincinnati, Ohio, and here's what he writes. Dear Casey, this may seem to be a strange dedication request, but I'm quite sincere and it'll need a lot if you play it. Recently, there was a death in our family. He was a little dog named Snuggles, but he was most certainly a part of... Let's come start again.

00:13:28.46
Mike
from Coming out of the record play the record. Okay, please See when you come out of those uptempo goddamn numbers man is impossible to make those transitions And then you got to go into somebody dying, you know, they do this to me all the time I don't know what the hell they do it for but goddamn it if we can't come out of a slow record I don't understand it is down on the phone.

00:13:52.81
Mike
Okay, I want a goddamn concerted effort to come out of a record that isn't a fucking up-tempo record every time I do a goddamn death dedication. Now, make it, and I also want to know what happened to the pictures I was supposed to see this week. This is a god, last goddamn time, I want somebody who uses fucking brain to not come out of a goddamn record that is, uh, that's up-tempo, and I gotta talk about a fucking dog dying.

00:14:20.83
Mike
It goes on a bit but you get the gist.

00:14:24.39
Bill
No, that's awesome. So yeah, if you kids out there don't know who Casey Casem is, just look him up.

00:14:28.08
Mike
um right you got a special

00:14:31.07
Bill
I mean, you did Casey Casem, American Top 40 back when there was...

00:14:34.00
Mike
Well you kids, um he was the voice of Shaggy in Scooby Doo.

00:14:38.63
Bill
Oh shit, yeah, yeah, yeah. God, I almost forgot about that. Okay, so yeah.

00:14:42.85
Mike
So there you go.

00:14:44.07
Bill
Yeah, so people probably not, well, literally heard him, but probably didn't have no idea who the fuck he was.

00:14:47.27
Mike
h

00:14:49.23
Bill
So yeah, that's great. That's fucking wonderful. So, all right.

00:14:54.10
Mike
That just makes me happy. I love that tape. All right Well, it's on the old YouTube you can find it it's the full thing yep, anyway goddamn death dedication All right reading Hey, I have to shift gears here we put the clutch in all right, here we go.

00:14:57.14
Bill
No, that's good. I don't know that I've ever heard it before. So that's that's good. That's awesome.

00:15:10.76
Bill
Yes.

00:15:20.25
Mike
Oh All right, well, yes, um Valentine's Day, scissoring day, VV day, DD day. Um, here we go. This is, uh, this is today's out of God grant me. I thought it was pretty good since we're doing our love spectacular season finale.

00:15:34.65
Mike
I thought we'd do this one. So here it is February 14th. Most people see the problem of love primarily as that of being loved, rather that rather than that of loving, of one's capacity to love. Eric Fromm, I did not look him up. All right, you'll have to do it, along with Casey Kasem. Here we go. um We want others to love us.

00:16:03.56
Mike
We search to find love. However, recovery asks that we focus our energies on loving instead of looking for love. We are to work at increasing our capacity to love. Love and loving others helps protect us from our addiction. During our active addiction, we quote unquote loved to drink, do drugs, party, gamble, and go to the sex shops. We'll talk about that in a minute.

00:16:31.91
Mike
um Although we quote-unquote loved to do these behaviors, these are not loving behaviors, these are self-centered behaviors. We learn in recovery that we need to do the work of love. we need We see a need and we work to be of service. We see someone hurting and we offer an ear to listen or maybe we just sit with that person for a time so that they know that they are not alone.

00:17:01.26
Mike
We have looked out for ourselves long enough. Now it is time to give back some of the love the world gave to us, which kept us alive during our addiction.

00:17:13.23
Mike
prayer for the day. Higher power help me stop looking for love and teach me how to increase my capacity to love. Provide me with opportunities to be of service. Today's action, those pesky actions, today I will be of secret service to someone. I will do something for someone and expect nothing in return.

00:17:37.98
Bill
You know, when I read that ah this morning, I thought of obviously the way you end our episode.

00:17:42.36
Mike
Right. So did I.

00:17:43.71
Bill
Every week, yeah.

00:17:44.56
Mike
if

00:17:45.11
Bill
I was like reading that and you know, all the all the love, love, love, love, love.

00:17:48.14
Mike
see

00:17:48.23
Bill
And then I'm like, oh yeah, do something, you know, and do something nice.

00:17:49.32
Mike
Right.

00:17:50.97
Bill
And yeah, don't don't tell anyone about it type of thing, you know. um

00:17:54.66
Mike
None of my good ideas are original. They're not mine.

00:17:58.91
Bill
Right.

00:17:59.55
Mike
My life is unmanageable.

00:18:02.02
Bill
I don't manage my own life. These principles and these good people manage my life. See, I listen.

00:18:05.92
Mike
That's right.

00:18:06.83
Bill
I listen every once in a while.

00:18:06.88
Mike
a

00:18:09.95
Bill
um But then I can't ask you if you did something you know secret for somebody because then you would be going against whatever. But I know that this this week, I'm sure that you've done something for somebody

00:18:15.79
Mike
Right.

00:18:20.02
Mike
Hmm. Hmm. I have.

00:18:22.22
Bill
um or you know a thought or you know whatever it is you know um you know going out of your way even and i suppose it could be you know i say a thought or a quote unquote prayer or whatever the case is yeah but' no i i agree i said those what i was going to say is those could be on the outskirts of it but yes i mean you need to yeah getting out there and doing something for

00:18:25.52
Mike
Right.

00:18:30.78
Mike
Hmm. No thoughts and prayers. Fucking action. Something concrete. Go do something for someone else. Hmm.

00:18:45.71
Mike
Faith without works is dead.

00:18:47.56
Bill
Correct, correct. So, um and even if I had to try to think about it, I mean, I do, you know, i I try to do little things, but here's the other thing, I do, and we talked about this before, there are, sometimes it's hard to think about some of these things, it's like, when's the last time you did this?

00:18:53.86
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:19:03.44
Bill
Well, I don't fucking know, it's part of my daily routine, you know?

00:19:03.58
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:19:06.83
Bill
Oh, you know, kind of funny, a little quick side note, the the last air and b Airbnb that I checked out, I got another great review, and I got i got called Tiny again,

00:19:17.30
Mike
Ah, so I start calling you that.

00:19:18.57
Bill
i I don't know, I guess so, you know, but is this the new, is is it the new is this a new word coming back? You know, the word tidy, I don't know, but.

00:19:25.63
Mike
Hmm. I, I, that's new to me.

00:19:30.31
Bill
And it was like, you know Don the old guy and then these others, that they're probably, yeah they're young, young ish.

00:19:34.84
Mike
isn'

00:19:35.56
Bill
But anyhow, you know and again, that was the same type of things we were talking about you know last episode, not really thinking about it. I didn't do what you anything for anyone out of the ordinary, but that just made me think about it.

00:19:42.56
Mike
Right.

00:19:44.09
Bill
But um i don't I know you don't want, maybe I don't know this, you don't necessarily walk out every day thinking to yourself, I'm going to do something nice for somebody and I'm not gonna tell somebody about it.

00:19:49.02
Mike
Hmm.

00:19:54.02
Mike
Oh, fuck no. Of course not. No, no, no. That's not the way my brain works. It never has. It never will. But that's the whole point. i But I do do those things because again, I've conditioned myself because of this program, working this program has conditioned me two When I see a need and there's something I can do about it.

00:20:22.32
Mike
I fucking do it You know, it's yeah, it's it's no there is no thought behind it again.

00:20:23.87
Bill
Right.

00:20:28.13
Mike
My thoughts are fucked up My thoughts aren't gonna send me that way Right Oh God no, no

00:20:32.73
Bill
right yeah they Again, I knew the answer. it just more It's more fun having you yeah having you actually say say the fuck, no, what's I didn't do that. And I think the the other big thing, and especially if we've got, and I know we do, i've got we've got people listening to us that are new-ish, whatever that whatever that you know means, whatever that term means.

00:20:48.28
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:20:51.78
Bill
but um It doesn't have to be some grand gesture. A lot of times it's the little things that mean the most to people, because those are the things that they don't expect.

00:20:55.44
Mike
No, God, no.

00:20:58.92
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:21:01.39
Bill
you know And you just, again, holding a door or picking up a piece of trash, anything like that.

00:21:01.58
Mike
Right.

00:21:06.38
Bill
I can give you a thousand examples of it, but um you know doing something, whatever whatever you don't wanna do when you did it, whatever you wouldn't wouldn't have done back in your drinking days, but you did, and then all of these things become habit, right?

00:21:06.41
Mike
Yeah.

00:21:08.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:21:15.67
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.

00:21:19.24
Mike
Yup. Absolutely.

00:21:20.69
Bill
Yeah.

00:21:20.93
Mike
Yeah. Part of your life, man. Yeah.

00:21:24.60
Bill
Yeah.

00:21:25.47
Mike
good

00:21:26.42
Bill
So, um, so that started off and there was a couple of times it mentioned the capacity, um, to love, which I, you know, talked about all the things that we loved, all the bad things and, um, you know, alcohol and drugs and sex shops, you said we'd get back to.

00:21:32.08
Mike
Right.

00:21:35.71
Mike
see

00:21:39.66
Bill
So let's, right.

00:21:39.83
Mike
yeah Well that, okay, ah clearly this is not the first time I've read that passage.

00:21:45.77
Bill
right

00:21:46.63
Mike
um And that one's just, you know what the fuck is a sex shop? I mean, is it a shop you go to buy sex? yeah

00:21:54.79
Bill
Right.

00:21:56.54
Mike
I mean, I'm assuming they they mean, I mean, you know this book is not that old. um I don't know what the fuck they mean by putting that in there. you know, I would think more, you know, the gentleman's club, a titty bar, if you will, you know, would be more along the lines of someplace we might frequent, um you know, porn's free on the internet now, you know, need to go to a sex shop.

00:22:18.54
Bill
Right.

00:22:23.84
Mike
um

00:22:25.70
Bill
But you know, in the in the thing with this, I mean, are they talking about, you know, like a store where you can buy, I don't know, fucking vibrators and dildos and, you know, I was just going to say, you know, I, I was standing.

00:22:33.29
Mike
Well, that's fucking Walgreens, man.

00:22:38.68
Mike
Again, the book's not that fucking old.

00:22:38.96
Bill
hey right in what well i was standing in line waiting for a prescription for for a mom you know a few years ago when i posted it on instagram it was you know the last three years and i'm just standing there and you know a couple of people in line and it was you know i just had a covid and shit like that so people are still distancing and i looked to my left and i get you know whatever it was all these fucking vibrators

00:22:45.83
Mike
Right? Yeah, right.

00:22:59.68
Bill
and then they had whatever it was too, I think it was in that, maybe it was Walmart where it had um whatever the um the gel was, the different types of like KY jelly type of thing. It was something like warm up, it's now hot, you know, come to me, whatever it was.

00:23:12.65
Mike
Hmm Astro glide Right, right All right

00:23:12.95
Bill
was It was in somebody, whoever stocked the shelf, whoever stocked the shelf put it in perfect order. I'm like, fucking kudos to that dude. or young lady, whatever it was.

00:23:23.83
Bill
um But I mean, I don't know. Yeah, because the same thing, Walmart, Target, um all those things. Yeah, again, sex shops, I giggled at that this morning. something'm like wendy ah Same thing. I'm like, one one way or the other.

00:23:34.85
Bill
I guess I didn't have a deep thought as far as what it meant, but... um a shop, I think a store. So I guess I did think more of a, you know, a, a toy store, you know, an adult toy store, which, I mean, these days, I mean, fuck, everyone talks about it.

00:23:43.76
Mike
Sure. Right. Right.

00:23:49.16
Bill
You know, I mean, you know, so especially, I mean, fucking women are so open about it.

00:23:49.54
Mike
Yeah.

00:23:52.96
Bill
I'm just like, tell me more. I want to hear more.

00:23:55.33
Mike
Right.

00:23:57.14
Bill
I'm, I'm a fan. Tell me more.

00:23:58.55
Mike
Absolutely. And I looked at, I mean, okay.

00:23:59.90
Bill
What do you, that's it.

00:24:01.16
Mike
So the book is 20 years old. It was in 2000. Yeah. 2005.

00:24:07.25
Bill
God grant me is from 2005.

00:24:09.06
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:09.77
Bill
Oh, that fucking blew that just blew my mind. Seriously, I would have thought I would have thought that that was back from the 70s.

00:24:16.58
Mike
oh Oh no, I knew it was, yeah, it's a newer, well, I mean, you know, newer at fucking 20 years old, but yeah, it's newer.

00:24:18.43
Bill
Okay.

00:24:24.35
Mike
It's, you know, not 90 years old.

00:24:26.94
Bill
Yeah, but just, you know, I think back, I mean, 20 years, you figure we're coming up at 50, so that fucking book was literally brand new when we got sober.

00:24:33.78
Mike
Pretty much.

00:24:33.83
Bill
That's that's crazy to me.

00:24:34.22
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. It was five years old when we got sober.

00:24:36.83
Bill
Right, that's that's crazy to me, okay.

00:24:37.54
Mike
Yeah.

00:24:39.54
Bill
um Yeah, I'm thinking of the 24-hour book. I mean, that's been around for a while, but.

00:24:42.99
Mike
That's from the fifties. Right.

00:24:44.54
Bill
Yeah, so, um but anyhow, so it's yeah, sex shops, I get it.

00:24:47.83
Mike
Yes.

00:24:47.96
Bill
But by, so the whole point with that, though, was that all the things that we had loved back then, um but those were, you know, the love that we had, it talked about being self-centered.

00:24:52.08
Mike
Yep.

00:24:56.40
Bill
And now we have to, I like the fact that said, love rather than looking for love, we have to look to be loving, which that I thought was, that I thought was kind of cool.

00:25:05.42
Mike
Yes.

00:25:08.44
Bill
So thoughts on that?

00:25:08.71
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:09.87
Bill
I mean, would you, like, run through your mind when you hear that?

00:25:11.51
Mike
I mean, that's pretty self-explanatory. Yeah. I mean, it's definitely, um, you know, a goal that would be, uh, you know, uh, right on par with the absolutes. Well, I mean, one of the absolutes is love, you know, loving.

00:25:23.36
Bill
Right.

00:25:23.75
Mike
Yeah. So, I mean, yes, it is. It's a, it's a pillar of this thing. Yes. Stop, stop looking for love and, and, and try to have the capacity to love.

00:25:34.81
Bill
Right.

00:25:35.40
Mike
Yeah.

00:25:36.26
Bill
Yeah. And you know that, and I guess really what it comes down to that goes back to what you talk about where happiness is a byproduct of all this shit that we do.

00:25:42.78
Mike
You all?

00:25:43.12
Bill
I don't mean that in a bad way, have all the stuff that we do, you know, but, you know, being, or, or let's say receiving love is a byproduct of us being loving people then, you know, and us doing the same thing, all these things, we become, you know, individuals that, you know, that people have the capacity now, we give them the capacity to love us, right?

00:25:44.58
Mike
No.

00:25:52.77
Mike
Yes, yes.

00:26:01.18
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:26:02.25
Bill
i mean

00:26:02.55
Mike
Right. Exactly. Well, it's, yeah, it's, it's, you know, like Bob used to always say, it's a math. It doesn't fucking add up, but yeah, that's it.

00:26:07.05
Bill
Right.

00:26:08.84
Mike
You know, ah we we, we receive this love, this true powerful love that we get because we're not trying to get it. We're trying to give things away and we get back multifold in return.

00:26:21.71
Mike
It's, it's wonderful. I don't know how fuck it works, but I'm glad it does.

00:26:26.07
Bill
Right? Yeah, it's ah it is. it's ah It's weird, you know? And ah it that's really what it comes down to. There's no other way to explain it than, you know, then the you know the gentleman named Bob had it explained to us years ago as it is at AMF.

00:26:37.33
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:26:38.48
Bill
You know, you keep you keep giving, giving, giving and, you know, giving all this shit away and you get get more in return.

00:26:38.91
Mike
Yep.

00:26:44.22
Mike
Yeah.

00:26:44.97
Bill
What?

00:26:44.99
Mike
Right. More than you'll ever get than trying to get it. Right.

00:26:49.23
Bill
Right.

00:26:49.64
Mike
Yeah. What the fuck? Thanks.

00:26:52.70
Bill
Yeah, it just reminded me of you remember the movie Brewster's Millions with Richard Pryor.

00:26:56.57
Mike
Uh, yeah, I mean, I, right. ah Jackie Gleason, I believe.

00:27:00.22
Bill
Well, his, yeah, I'm sure they they did.

00:27:01.48
Mike
Right. I think so.

00:27:03.80
Bill
Yeah, they did a couple of things because they did the the toy together. And I'm sure that, yeah, that was it.

00:27:06.68
Mike
Mm hmm. That's yeah. no um Shit. Anyway, yes.

00:27:10.13
Bill
He might've been, he might've been, but in in that movie, um whatever it was, he inherited, let's say $2 million dollars or even a million dollars.

00:27:18.10
Mike
Right.

00:27:19.15
Bill
And if he could if he could spend it and be penniless within like 30 days or something like that, then he would get 10 million.

00:27:19.60
Mike
Right.

00:27:23.94
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:27:26.88
Bill
you know So that was the that was the game.

00:27:27.06
Mike
Right.

00:27:29.29
Bill
I remember him. he He was trying so fucking hard. he's tried I think he tried to invest. he had this whole He hired this whole fucking team of people and he's got people that are you know investing in like winning shit or actually getting you know these investments to pay off.

00:27:37.19
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:27:42.66
Bill
He's like, don't no, no, no.

00:27:44.08
Mike
No, right.

00:27:46.46
Bill
Can I fucking lose this? But it was just reminded me of that concept. he couldn't He was trying to give all the shit away and he just kept getting more back.

00:27:52.71
Mike
Nope.

00:27:53.15
Bill
you know And i I don't know why I thought of fucking Brewster's Millions, but yeah it's from 1981 or 79 or something like that, probably.

00:28:01.02
Mike
Early 80s. Yeah.

00:28:02.65
Bill
yeah easily within that timeframe. But no, I mean, it was ah it was kind of funny when I started reading that that this morning. um And it did really phase me about the love thing, but then it kind of clicked.

00:28:14.56
Bill
you know um you said I mean, these books talk about it, you know, love and love yourself and blah, blah, blah. Then I'm like, oh yeah, this is a Valentine's Day thing.

00:28:21.74
Mike
Right.

00:28:22.24
Bill
And I'm like, or lined up at least. you know It's not like they said, hey, happy Valentine's Day, drunkie drugs.

00:28:24.41
Mike
Right.

00:28:28.41
Mike
Yeah.

00:28:28.75
Bill
Let's let's read about love.

00:28:31.66
Mike
Right.

00:28:33.54
Bill
But no, it's ah it's a good reading because it it is so true that, um I mean, the beautiful part is not, oh God, I is said i don't even know, right, because I almost said not having to try um to get all this good shit back, but that's kind of what it is.

00:28:44.80
Mike
Mm.

00:28:47.13
Bill
It's just the, you know, we we we've been we've been given this gift of how to live, you know, and finally get to the point where after a certain amount of time, or maybe now for us for ah a handful of years, or even we're still learning, granted,

00:28:47.34
Mike
Yeah, it is.

00:28:52.12
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:29:00.93
Mike
Sure.

00:29:01.35
Bill
um But getting to the point where we don't really even have to try that hard ah to get good things.

00:29:05.74
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:29:08.92
Bill
you know And again, don't get me wrong.

00:29:09.41
Mike
Right.

00:29:11.62
Bill
people all this we we both We all have you know weird shit come our way. It's called living life.

00:29:15.35
Mike
Hmm.

00:29:16.30
Bill
We still have that.

00:29:16.51
Mike
Mm hmm. Right.

00:29:18.51
Bill
you know but um But yeah, just ah it's it's fucking weird. you know what's It's weird in the best possible way.

00:29:24.98
Mike
It is right.

00:29:29.00
Bill
All right, so um anything else, anything else about the about the reading? I think that's pretty much all the little notes that I wrote down, but anything else out of there in there?

00:29:36.01
Mike
No, I, I, no, I think we covered it.

00:29:39.07
Bill
Okay, yep, just get out there and get out there and love up on somebody, yeah.

00:29:39.09
Mike
Yeah.

00:29:43.52
Mike
Right.

00:29:45.66
Bill
On the day of love. So just a serious side note though, so you you and Chris are floating tomorrow and then you're going to dinner or doing whatever you said.

00:29:52.38
Mike
Yes, yes, yes, yeah.

00:29:53.13
Bill
Okay, that's nice.

00:29:54.35
Mike
We're going to the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. They're doing a Sinatra sinatra Gershwin evening.

00:29:57.94
Bill
Really?

00:30:01.81
Mike
Yes, yeah, it's gonna be cool.

00:30:01.93
Bill
Huh.

00:30:04.27
Bill
Nice, nice.

00:30:04.90
Mike
Yeah. Well, I mean, yeah, for you guys that know Chris, my girlfriend, she's a huge Frank Sinatra fan. She has a Frank Sinatra portrait tattooed on her arm.

00:30:10.21
Bill
Right.

00:30:14.36
Mike
Um, so yeah, yeah, we're going to go do some Sinatra stuff and have a nice meal and hang out down on the river, down in the flats.

00:30:24.41
Bill
that's That's really nice. I mean, I knew you said you were going to get together and do something, but I didn't know what you're... That's pretty fucking amazing that they would have that too.

00:30:30.64
Mike
yeah

00:30:31.23
Bill
I mean, that's that's nice. Really nice.

00:30:32.57
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What will we do if we stop drinking? Life will be boring, man.

00:30:39.86
Bill
We'll actually finally realize that there's all these different things going on.

00:30:45.41
Mike
man Right.

00:30:46.49
Bill
And they're like, oh, i never I never knew that was there. you know What is that? That's the sun. That's ah that's a tree. That's that's water.

00:30:55.22
Mike
Yes.

00:30:56.55
Bill
Yeah, i put I put together, I don't know if you saw, I put together this collage of pictures last night and start thinking about it. And I actually had to go back, because I forgot, when I initially mapped out all these places I was going over the last you know seven weeks, up I knew the mileage. I knew how many miles it was gonna be, but I forgot. So I just, I mapped it all again. And it was like, ah just with just driving to these individual places were like, I don't know, probably 36 or 3,700 miles.

00:31:22.50
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:31:23.00
Bill
And you know, so I'm like app easily drove another two, 300 miles. So yeah, it's like 4,000 miles by the time I got back to Indiana tomorrow.

00:31:29.44
Mike
Nice.

00:31:29.69
Bill
And I was like, like son of a bitch. But I mean, really ah in the post and I kind of was, you know, like ah I'm like Jesus Christ. I mean, it was again, seven weeks, which, you know, i obviously six different places.

00:31:40.06
Bill
And I just started looking at these pictures. I'm like, all these fucking memories. And I, you know, cause part of this stuff, you know, in and here's the problem still to the to this day. I do enjoy, I enjoy the moments, you know?

00:31:52.39
Mike
Right.

00:31:52.69
Bill
But the thing of it is that what's, I don't know how to see what tears me away, but what's weird sometimes is the fact that I'm just living my normal everyday work life during the week.

00:32:03.40
Mike
listen Sure.

00:32:04.17
Bill
I mean, granted, like this week I'm in Lake of the Ozarks. I can look outside, there's a fucking lake. It's fucking cold, you know, but there's a lake out there.

00:32:09.86
Mike
Right.

00:32:12.33
Bill
And when I was in Albuquerque or Amarillo or Phoenix, I'm still, I'm just doing my shit.

00:32:16.62
Mike
Right.

00:32:16.75
Bill
When I get out and, you know, obviously go see these places, then it's like, okay, then obviously I'm like, wow, this is all fucking cool, whatever. But then, during the week, it just, well, it's just during the week.

00:32:27.09
Mike
Right. Yeah.

00:32:28.41
Bill
You know, so i that's why i I take a lot of pictures, because I like to put them up on Instagram. I loved it, the the memories that come back. I love being able to look back at pictures.

00:32:36.54
Mike
Sure.

00:32:36.77
Bill
um But really, I just started looking, I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ, all these different little places I got to see. all these different experiences and then you know Kimmy and Brian and out there and then you know obviously your sister Peyton was out there and my friend came in and I mean all this different shit I'm like oh I'm like Jesus Christ I you know hung out with my friend Morgan and stuff like that the beginning of the trip and um I don't know it just it's I had this wave of gratitude you know yeah and it's even with them like well goddamn it I had to buy a new car all this different money I spent all these things that I all this stress that I that I put upon myself and I say stress quote-unquote

00:32:42.85
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:32:58.66
Mike
Right. Good.

00:33:07.84
Mike
oh

00:33:09.82
Bill
And I'm like, you know what, fuck it, man. It's all gonna, it all worked out. It's all gonna work out.

00:33:12.92
Mike
Yup.

00:33:13.06
Bill
And um again, it's the, yeah, and it it it is.

00:33:14.73
Mike
And you got to experience these wonderful things. Yes.

00:33:18.76
Bill
And then um the other thing, you know, I'll talk about the the book review here in a minute, because that was the other thing that kind of kind of hit me a little bit, you know, when Elise wrote a book review.

00:33:27.46
Mike
I actually saw it.

00:33:27.80
Bill
um Yeah, and, um you know, well, I guess I'll talk about it now. think so it's There's two things I want to talk about with her.

00:33:32.22
Mike
Yeah.

00:33:33.92
Bill
So um everyone, well, I don't know if everyone knows, but I'll say it again, because we talk about them enough.

00:33:38.34
Mike
Yeah,

00:33:39.31
Bill
um The sober curator, sobercurator sobercurator dot.com, um if you've never visited, if you're not following them on Instagram or you haven't visited their website, you should.

00:33:48.22
Mike
yeah what the fuck's wrong with you?

00:33:48.24
Bill
um We are, yeah right, yeah yeah, yeah.

00:33:50.58
Mike
he

00:33:53.18
Bill
Because not only are they friends of ours, we're part of, we're we're contributors, we're sober curators. um We're all one big happy family and they do a lot for us and we try to do the same in return, you know.

00:34:03.51
Mike
Yep.

00:34:03.96
Bill
um But Alisa told me, I don't know, a few weeks ago, she's like, oh, I'm going to do a book review. I said, oh, that's cool. Whenever you get a chance. I mean, that's, that's whatever. It's fine. It's cool.

00:34:12.94
Mike
he Yeah, it was.

00:34:13.01
Bill
But it was really fucking nice, you know? um And just when, you know, I, there was words in there that she put and lines in there that she put that just, you know, kind of, kind of hit me in the right way.

00:34:23.86
Bill
I'm like, fuck man. you know because really what she's talking about is just you know in once again the the book talks about everything that i did to build up to and get to do what i do when i say that i i get to i'm allowed to um all those different things and yeah i mean it's sobriety and this and that and blah blah blah there's a lot of planning and all that stuff that goes with this

00:34:35.41
Mike
Right.

00:34:37.65
Mike
see

00:34:44.41
Mike
Sure.

00:34:44.64
Bill
Um, but it just, uh, footwork.

00:34:45.35
Mike
Footwork.

00:34:46.75
Bill
Yeah, a little bit foundation footwork.

00:34:48.64
Mike
Uh-huh.

00:34:50.72
Bill
Um, but it was just, it was a really nice review number one, but it really got me, um, just thinking it again, going Jesus fucking Christ. I'm, you know, in the, uh, these weird things, you know, these little things like that, these waves of gratitude.

00:35:04.22
Bill
And know I'm like. I mean, not that I've worked for it and I pay for it.

00:35:07.75
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:35:08.07
Bill
I you know i've i don't say earned it, but I work for all this stuff. you know But still, when I look at it, I'm like, Jesus Christ, what a fucking gift. What a goddamn gift.

00:35:14.91
Mike
Yes.

00:35:16.26
Bill
And I say it all the time, but I mean, things like that really put it into perspective for me that none of this fucking happens without this thing that we do every day. If I'm not sober or if I decide to fuck around or do whatever, ah be irresponsible.

00:35:29.91
Mike
Right.

00:35:31.19
Bill
I could be sober and still be irresponsible.

00:35:31.83
Mike
Mm hmm. Oh, sure. Yeah.

00:35:34.27
Bill
um

00:35:34.69
Mike
be a dick and right. Yeah. Do all the wrong things. Absolutely.

00:35:40.86
Bill
like you said, when I was when i planned everything out, I'm like, yeah, I even got my gas money like budgeted out. you're like You're like, Jesus Christ, you fucking got everything planned out. I'm like, well, I had to, you know?

00:35:50.11
Mike
Yeah.

00:35:50.72
Bill
And it was like the, just towards the towards the end, ah I think for like the, the um one of the trips, I mean, I actually put i put my gas money on a credit card because I'm like my, again, with commissions and stuff like that, I'm like, yeah, just throw some cash over here.

00:36:03.82
Bill
I can do this. But all the other stuff, i mean it just I had my gas budgeted in. But um but the same thing. i just i don't know I felt really good. So if anyone gets the opportunity, um yes, there i put it I put a sale on a book. You don't have to buy the book. Read the book review. Elise says some really, really nice things. It's on the Sober Curator. um It's on my website, themoderndayhobo.com. I put it on there. Also a link to it. um But read the review. It's just fucking nice, OK?

00:36:29.34
Mike
It is.

00:36:30.20
Bill
So in going back and forth with Elise, I told her, I'm like, ah you know, I said, I truly appreciate it. I'm like, if there's anything I said, I hope you know. And I said, I know you do. But I said, if you, if I can do anything, if Mike and I can do anything for you, just let us know.

00:36:43.19
Mike
Sure.

00:36:43.31
Bill
And she's like, she's like, well, by the way, now that you're asking.

00:36:45.39
Mike
Well, since your offering.

00:36:50.02
Bill
So she, I know she's doing a, she's about to launch a podcast with, um, with somebody, it's a sister of one of the sober curators.

00:36:57.76
Mike
Okay.

00:36:58.06
Bill
Um, and I just know, I know that the one sober curator, but anyhow, so she's doing the podcast, but also the sober curator podcast thing, which we've talked about on here.

00:37:03.03
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:37:07.01
Bill
Um, that is slowly coming up to a launch and Elise put in the email, she's like, you know, with the launch of the podcast, whatever. I'll be honest today, I forgot to ask, I don't know if she was talking about her podcast to the Sober Curator, whichever one is launching in March, um but she's like, you know, i I want to get out there and promote if I can come back on, I'm like, fucking A-right, just let me know.

00:37:20.93
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:37:25.73
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:37:26.49
Bill
You know, let us let us know whatever you want to come on, it's fine. You know, so we'll be having a lease back on and, um you know, the same, I was going to joke around and to tell her I said no, or say it's just, no.

00:37:29.77
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:37:35.91
Mike
Yeah, right. Well, absolutely not.

00:37:39.34
Bill
Not a god damn chance. My book review's already up. What are you gonna do? You can take it down, but no.

00:37:42.67
Mike
Yeah. well

00:37:46.87
Bill
But, but no, I mean, they, you know, she would say, she's like, well, you guys do a lot for us too. I'm like, ah, fuck it. It's whatever we, whatever we talk about, we, whatever we do, it's nothing.

00:37:55.14
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:37:55.21
Bill
Come on back on. Yes, we can all talk about podcast shit and and whatever.

00:37:56.45
Mike
Yes. Yeah.

00:37:58.45
Bill
So that's all good.

00:37:59.96
Mike
Cool.

00:38:00.04
Bill
um So again, our guest next week, his name is Alex.

00:38:03.68
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:38:04.51
Bill
And I took a speaking of the sober curator, they did a book review on him, on his book. And I don't know, I just took a picture of the ah the thing on the website.

00:38:15.79
Bill
I don't know what the date was on here. Yeah, figures out that's the only thing I didn't, I didn't screenshot the date.

00:38:18.12
Mike
Hmm.

00:38:20.97
Bill
But the guest we're gonna have on next week, his name is Alex. His sober curator did ah did a book review, but it's called, I Learned How to Love from Heroin ah by Alex Schotten, spelled S-C-H-O-T-C-E-N, and it says sober poetry.

00:38:37.35
Bill
So he does, and I know Mike and I read a couple of things out of it. It is, it's like little short stories and poems and this and that, but we're gonna have him on next week. But if you wanna read the book review, again, go to Sober Curator, look up, I looked up the word Alex, but I was gonna search heroin.

00:38:55.83
Bill
I'm sure I would've found it either way.

00:38:55.90
Mike
Right.

00:38:58.29
Bill
It's under their book review, so take a look at that.

00:38:58.31
Mike
right

00:39:01.63
Bill
because he's going to be on next week. And it should be it should be a lot of fun. I have no idea what to expect. We've never talked. He reached out to us um randomly. There was this string of fucking people that we were getting reaching out.

00:39:10.36
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:39:13.35
Bill
And I kept you know these people that books and projects. And I'm like, what do you got? Let's talk, whatever. And nobody got back to us.

00:39:18.34
Mike
Sure.

00:39:18.96
Bill
And he responded. So I'm like, well, I don't fucking know. But um anyhow, so he'll be on next week.

00:39:22.46
Mike
Yeah.

00:39:24.69
Bill
and Our good friend Dr. Sarah was on the sober motivation podcast.

00:39:29.54
Mike
Uh huh.

00:39:30.69
Bill
That's with the the guy's name is Brad. I've talked about his podcast before. It's one of my favorite sober podcasts that I listened to. um And the cool part was is that when we've had Dr. Sarah on, which has been twice, and I didn't write down the episodes, you guys can fucking look it up.

00:39:44.10
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:39:47.29
Mike
Right.

00:39:47.50
Bill
um We talked very, very little about her journey going up to, no drunk along shit, whatever.

00:39:51.36
Mike
Mm hmm. Right.

00:39:55.25
Bill
We talked about the solution and then the last episode, I didn't even know what we talked about, everything.

00:39:58.75
Mike
I don't know. She started psychoanalyzing us.

00:40:02.16
Bill
Oh, yeah, she did. She did. That was fun.

00:40:03.72
Mike
It was fun.

00:40:04.17
Bill
Yeah, it was it was interesting. Yeah, relationship. She started talking about relationships with us and stuff.

00:40:08.06
Mike
Uh huh.

00:40:08.97
Bill
And um but she talked about some of her because that's the way Brad's podcast is. So her motivation podcast is it is stories from you know childhood all the way through.

00:40:16.10
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:19.67
Bill
Very structured. He does the same thing with every guest. So I got to hear some more things about her.

00:40:22.13
Mike
Right.

00:40:24.87
Bill
And I mean, she talked about the fact that she was a little wild.

00:40:25.78
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:27.67
Bill
And I'm like, yeah damn, there's some stories. It was fun. You know, um but it's a good episode if you have a chance one at one where the other as i said and i posted about it worst case scenario it's dr sarah you'll love her she's it was a great episode so um so yeah hop over on that up or on that podcast also it's good i i like brad he's got a good setup and uh he's far more popular than we are but

00:40:36.30
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:50.14
Mike
Mm-hmm. It's pretty low bar.

00:40:52.23
Bill
ah Just gonna say, doesn't take doesn't take much to get there, but he's a good dude. I've been listening to that. That's one of the ones I jumped into.

00:40:58.96
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:40:59.77
Bill
He's not that much farther along than us as far as episodes.

00:41:04.21
Mike
Right.

00:41:04.59
Bill
I think, you know, this is 156 for us. He might be coming up on 200, you know, but um but yeah, I mean, he's got this whole, again, this whole network of people, but um good guests, good stories, and just to get set up.

00:41:08.46
Mike
Mm-hmm.

00:41:16.56
Mike
Cool.

00:41:16.82
Bill
So listen to the Sober Motivation podcast, okay?

00:41:20.04
Mike
Yes. All right.

00:41:20.98
Bill
So those are, I think, those are all my little, those are kind of like show notes.

00:41:26.27
Mike
Right.

00:41:27.64
Bill
Do you have anything, Mike? Any any show notes?

00:41:31.17
Mike
You know what I do as a matter of fact, ready?

00:41:34.06
Bill
What? What? Yes.

00:41:36.64
Mike
We're going to be right back after these words from our sponsors.

00:41:49.71
Bill
all right everyone welcome back yeah you know what is it's like when you see what i said really because so here here's the sideline reason that i was kind of blown away by it so so we had we had a pre-show meeting which again we we talk about this enough we we rarely there's there's 99 of the things we we talk about we just fucking talk about them in here because we can

00:41:52.07
Mike
Hahahaha! Right.

00:42:11.52
Mike
Yeah, right.

00:42:12.42
Bill
um but there was a couple of sideline things that we had to talk about and Mike actually came to the table with three things tonight, which um ah jokingly I said to him, but it's really probably not a joke.

00:42:16.37
Mike
Hahahahaha!

00:42:22.84
Bill
i see is be probably There's probably more things that he's had to talk about than the entire you know calendar year, last year.

00:42:23.67
Mike
No.

00:42:28.87
Mike
Yeah.

00:42:29.60
Bill
you know I said, God, that's why when he said that, again, I'm like, really?

00:42:29.82
Mike
Mm hmm. Yeah.

00:42:34.34
Bill
You got fucking more?

00:42:34.34
Mike
ye

00:42:36.19
Bill
yeah But I like that. That was a lot of fun. And all I wanted to do was I wanted to start, you know, right off the bat laughing, but, you know, just don't, I'll let it, I'll let it run.

00:42:42.42
Mike
she

00:42:44.15
Bill
It's okay.

00:42:44.18
Mike
Cool.

00:42:44.82
Bill
It's a good, that's, that might be the best one. So, all right. I have plenty, I got plenty of little things on here, but um why don't we get into what we probably don't want to talk about?

00:42:54.84
Bill
So, um our buddy, our buddy Derek from Cleveland died ah Tuesday, what thing is it?

00:42:55.29
Mike
and Okay.

00:42:59.14
Mike
Mm hmm. Yeah.

00:43:02.60
Bill
Tuesday, Wednesday, Monday.

00:43:03.96
Mike
Bad. Yeah. Something bad. Yeah. Monday day or Tuesday.

00:43:07.62
Bill
And again, just, ah you know, popped on, I popped on Facebook.

00:43:10.90
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:43:10.98
Bill
I'm sure that's probably exactly where you saw it too.

00:43:12.42
Mike
Yeah.

00:43:12.70
Bill
And, um you know, it was his, it was his son, you know, and his, his son posted, well, I didn't expect to get this call, but, and I'm like, motherfucker.

00:43:13.04
Mike
Right.

00:43:15.91
Mike
Yeah.

00:43:21.58
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:43:22.95
Bill
So, um I, have you heard details? I mean, i I think I know what happened.

00:43:27.08
Mike
Now, I mean, I i haven't heard shit.

00:43:27.65
Bill
I mean, I, but, Okay, so Derek was one way or the other like we were talking about in the beginning. So we went into the Keating Center in April of 2010.

00:43:38.74
Bill
Okay. And you know, by ah call it by whatever grace of whatever the work that we've done and blah, blah, blah. um Thankfully, you know, Mike and I have stayed sober since that timeframe.

00:43:47.42
Mike
We haven't had to go back.

00:43:47.47
Bill
You know, so yeah, haven't had, but we were we were invited.

00:43:50.42
Mike
who We've gone back, but we've never spent the night there again.

00:43:55.80
Bill
We were, and we were invited back. Marty graciously asked us if we wanted to live there again and in one of the dorms after, after they kicked us out of the three, not kicked us out, but you know what I mean, the three quarter house, but, uh,

00:43:57.40
Mike
Yes.

00:44:00.27
Mike
Right.

00:44:04.26
Mike
Right. Yeah. After they switched the three quarter house over to a women's house.

00:44:09.14
Bill
yeah. And we weren't allowed to say, even though we tried, right?

00:44:10.61
Mike
I know we we tried.

00:44:11.34
Bill
Hello.

00:44:11.90
Mike
Well, we'll stay. We'll help the girls. Yeah. Come on in ladies.

00:44:16.64
Bill
um But there's been, there's a lot of people, you know, and a lot of people that have bounced back and forth, um a lot of people have died, you know, which is, ah it's part of this fucking thing.

00:44:19.86
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. yeah

00:44:27.98
Bill
And I obviously, ah it's an understatement to say that that we don't like it, nobody likes it. But, um you know, some of these things, well, let me step back a little bit.

00:44:33.49
Mike
Right.

00:44:37.00
Bill
So however it was, whether Derek was there when we first got there or early on, he was a big part of, are early recovery, right?

00:44:46.92
Mike
Yes, absolutely.

00:44:47.50
Bill
Good way to put it.

00:44:48.51
Mike
Yep.

00:44:48.62
Bill
um And then he also worked at the Keating Center or was kind of Marty's assistant for a while.

00:44:53.97
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. He did us. Yeah. Right. Yeah.

00:44:57.16
Bill
So, I mean, he was deeply involved in that sort of thing.

00:44:59.47
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:44:59.56
Bill
um I don't know how much time that the the the longest amount, but i if I'm, unless I'm mistaken, the longest amount of sobriety that he had was probably in that beginning timeframe, right?

00:45:11.12
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. You know, I mean, right.

00:45:12.75
Bill
I don't,

00:45:13.72
Mike
Yeah. It may have been, I mean, he may have put together a little bit more somewhere there in the last 15 years, but yeah, he was definitely in and out.

00:45:22.70
Bill
Right. And didn't he have, I know he had some health issues. Was it, did he have asthma or something like that?

00:45:26.76
Mike
Sure.

00:45:29.02
Bill
Some sort of lung.

00:45:29.48
Mike
Something. Yeah. Right. I'm health issues. Definitely. You know, clearly as a consequence of our lifestyle, we, that don't tend to happen to us.

00:45:35.62
Bill
Right.

00:45:38.91
Bill
So, you know, yeah, he would bounce around and he would be in and out of the hospital for whatever that, that stuff was.

00:45:43.01
Mike
Right.

00:45:43.31
Bill
But I mean, he, um, yeah, I mean, he was, he was, he was sober and had, uh, um, again, all, all the things around him that we did and blah, blah, blah. But, uh, I don't know. I don't even know how I just, he's been friends of both of ours on, on Facebook for, for years.

00:45:57.06
Bill
And, um, you know, I see him, he'll pop up every once in a while or did, um, you're like, Oh, would you, okay.

00:45:57.19
Mike
Mhm.

00:46:00.16
Mike
Right. Yeah. Well, and clearly, you know, I'm still in town. So I, you know, see him that, you know, functions and stuff. And yeah, you know, I mean, or he'd be back and, you know, whatever.

00:46:06.88
Bill
Yeah.

00:46:09.58
Mike
And we'd be doing a fundraiser and he'd be there and I'm back. Okay. Good. You know, stay, stay this time, man.

00:46:15.19
Bill
Right.

00:46:17.84
Bill
Yeah, and I guess I didn't even know that he that he had like actually popped back into the Keating Center. But then again, i haven't you know it's been fucking 10 years since I've been out of town.

00:46:23.32
Mike
Yeah. Right. Yeah.

00:46:25.70
Bill
But um but yeah, i know I know that he bounced around and and that sort of thing.

00:46:26.08
Mike
Right.

00:46:29.96
Bill
And I would see him pop up on Facebook every once in a while and be like, oh, nobody loves me or nobody reached out to me.

00:46:36.54
Mike
Hmm.

00:46:36.70
Bill
And the whatever it is, and then i for the longest time, and all I'd always see Marty post, you know, you know where to go, come back home, that sort of thing.

00:46:44.11
Mike
Right.

00:46:44.79
Bill
you know

00:46:44.90
Mike
see Yeah.

00:46:45.79
Bill
um And just, it it was it was just almost this this endless cycle of him tension seeking, I mean, sort of, you know, kind of through there.

00:46:53.84
Mike
ah Yeah. You know, I mean, well, if you're of talking about byproducts of the program, um, we don't throw our pity parties for ourselves anymore.

00:47:04.68
Bill
Right.

00:47:04.83
Mike
but that's certainly as active addicts and alcoholics, you know, that's part of the lifestyle, man. Feeling sorry for yourself, you know, right?

00:47:13.64
Bill
Right.

00:47:14.70
Mike
Yeah.

00:47:16.27
Bill
And, you know, I mean, that the again, like I said, to begin with, the the number of people that we've known, I i mean, I've lost count, you know, the number of people that have died.

00:47:23.57
Mike
Yeah.

00:47:24.91
Bill
And that's, ah it's it's a shame, you know, I mean, these faces, and there's some people, I remember the face, but, you know, I can't remember the name type of thing.

00:47:30.10
Mike
Right. Mm hmm.

00:47:31.38
Bill
And um it's ah it's a shame, but a lot of times, a majority of the time, I mean, things like this, I mean, it's kind of these, almost these awe moments. he's you know the i don't I don't get depressed, but they kind of bum me out, you know?

00:47:42.00
Mike
No, no.

00:47:43.17
Bill
But you know what? in I guess I want your, maybe I want your your input on this one. I'm not really sure why. I think I know why, but this one makes me mad.

00:47:48.88
Mike
Hmm.

00:47:52.17
Bill
um A little bit angry, you know? And and I think, I mean, I still, um it kind of bumps, it still bumps me out, but also, man only in the sense, kind of everything that I had just, you know, kind of said, and I was thinking to myself, I'm like, why does this fucking piss me off?

00:47:54.88
Mike
Hmm.

00:48:01.72
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:48:07.12
Bill
Is because just he, I don't know. i mean it just every A lot of people have everything that we were that we were given so freely.

00:48:13.91
Mike
Sure.

00:48:14.42
Bill
you know um he had All these opportunities. He literally had people trying to pull him off the bar stool type of thing. People reaching out. He he wasn't left alone. He wasn't, um you know even though he would, again, the pity parties you say, he wasn't shunned or anything like that.

00:48:29.88
Mike
No.

00:48:30.75
Bill
And it just, I, it just part of me, I was like, you motherfucker, you know, because it's good.

00:48:34.40
Mike
he Right.

00:48:35.48
Bill
I mean, all of us are, we're good fucking dudes, you know, when, when we're doing our thing, but, and I guess the more I say it out loud, I'm not really mad. It just, it's such a fucking shame to begin with.

00:48:44.11
Mike
Yeah.

00:48:44.54
Bill
ah It was mad when I saw it. But then the other thing I thought about is because it was his son that posted it.

00:48:49.73
Mike
Right.

00:48:50.47
Bill
And then that just kind of popped in that my head. Maybe that made me mad.

00:48:53.09
Mike
Right.

00:48:53.56
Bill
Because thinking about you know what one of my kids would have to post something about me. you know And that maybe that's why it made me mad. Not mad at him, but mad at the situation. Does that make sense?

00:49:02.88
Mike
Yeah. Mad at the dirt, mad at the disease, man. Yeah.

00:49:07.33
Bill
Right.

00:49:07.91
Mike
Right. Mad at the the selfishness and self centeredness and the, the bullshit that we buy into that we're not hurting anybody but ourselves, you know, and we truly fucking believe it.

00:49:11.77
Bill
Right.

00:49:17.58
Bill
right

00:49:19.80
Mike
And that's, that's, yeah, it's fucking awful, man. Um, I'm done again.

00:49:23.33
Bill
Right.

00:49:24.90
Mike
I'm grateful that I don't fucking believe that lie anymore, but I certainly did for a long time.

00:49:30.92
Bill
Right.

00:49:31.61
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:31.79
Bill
And I think, yeah I think that's it. That's it. And I um sometimes, and i and I knew, I knew for a fact, if I, if I just, you know, even rambled on for a couple of minutes, I, I'd not figure it out, but I think, I think I just did, you know, why I was mad.

00:49:39.42
Mike
Mm hmm. Right now.

00:49:44.27
Bill
I was mad thinking that, you know, I don't want to be um

00:49:47.15
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:49:47.65
Bill
I would be mad at it if it were my kid or my children, either one of them, that had to be the one posting on Facebook.

00:49:52.29
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:49:55.04
Bill
Oh, by the way, you know I got this phone call and there's you know there's no life insurance.

00:49:56.54
Mike
Yeah.

00:49:59.38
Bill
There's no fucking plan.

00:50:00.52
Mike
Oh.

00:50:00.72
Bill
um i My kids being on Facebook and having to do a goddamn GoFundMe to fucking burn up my ass and throw me in ah and a goddamn dumpster.

00:50:05.19
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:50:08.71
Bill
you know

00:50:08.84
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:09.54
Bill
and um it just that

00:50:09.91
Mike
Nope.

00:50:11.58
Bill
That made me angry probably. And again, it wasn't it not to come to think without wasn't it it wasn't in him. It was at the, you know, is that the thought of.

00:50:16.09
Mike
No. but And I mean, and, and yeah, well, mad that we lived our, that we allowed ourselves to live that way for so long.

00:50:26.89
Bill
Right.

00:50:27.13
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Right. Cause that'd be, you know, right. 15 years ago, that absolutely would have been the case.

00:50:35.15
Bill
Right.

00:50:35.75
Mike
Yeah. I'm 15 years ago. I didn't have any fucking shit in place to have that taken care of. I do today, you know, but yeah, but could very easily been either one of us and would have been either one of us had we not started doing what the fuck we were supposed to do finally.

00:50:42.46
Bill
Right.

00:50:54.22
Bill
Right.

00:50:54.78
Mike
Yeah.

00:50:55.46
Bill
Yeah, and I may have had, I may have had, you know, a small, I don't know, whatever it is, a place I was working, I may have had life insurance that they just gave me because I had health insurance.

00:51:02.94
Mike
Right. Hmm.

00:51:05.41
Bill
um But I probably had like $10,000 or something like that.

00:51:07.74
Mike
Yeah, right. Yeah. I mean, you know, I don't have much more now, but yeah, that's, you know, that's what that's for.

00:51:09.52
Bill
You know,

00:51:13.53
Mike
You know, I'm not looking to take care of them for the fucking rest of their lives. That's not my job. Um, yeah, no, my job is to when I fucking cack over, um, you know, here's the money to burden me up.

00:51:18.42
Bill
Right.

00:51:26.39
Bill
Right.

00:51:27.22
Mike
Yeah. So it's not a burden.

00:51:29.34
Bill
Right. Yeah. And I had a, uh, when I, I think when I, uh, when was it, when I, oh yeah, when I left the job in, um, uh, the job I had in Milwaukee, when I quit that job, I took out a, um, like a side life insurance policy. And I think that, I mean, I'm still, ah to be, I almost canceled it, but I think it's 50 bucks a month and whatever it is. It's just, you know, I think whatever it is, it's term life insurance. And then I get, um, I think I've got, I've got, I've got enough life insurance for them for it, for my kids to pay off my debt and have some money.

00:51:59.51
Mike
Right. Yeah, that's it.

00:52:00.47
Bill
leftover, you know, and the, the only thing that I, the only thing I got, if, if my kids ever listened to this, just so you know, I just, yeah you lost about when I bought this car, you lost about 14 grand, you know, because I only owed like, I only owed like six on my, on my ah other car.

00:52:01.18
Mike
no

00:52:11.05
Mike
yeah

00:52:18.08
Mike
aha Yeah, there you go.

00:52:18.67
Bill
and Now I owe like 20 something. So, you know, yeah, it's 14 ish that you got to get back unless, okay, here's the good news.

00:52:23.99
Mike
ah he

00:52:28.13
Bill
If I die in a car accident and the car's totaled, you get it all.

00:52:29.81
Mike
ah Yes. There you go. Well, let's do thoughts and prayers.

00:52:35.79
Bill
because i

00:52:40.15
Bill
Special attention. ah but But yeah, see, that's the thing. you know i just i don't want I have a, and I do, i it's so stupid. I set myself a reminder every um every Sunday.

00:52:51.91
Bill
i've I've got a will all done on my computer. um I just need to print it off and have I've got to get it you know witnessed by two people and then you know do some handwritten things to get passwords.

00:52:54.37
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.

00:53:01.75
Bill
Because I mean, there's so much electronic shit. I've got you know maybe three different passwords I can use. All somebody needs is by phone. If you have my phone, you can get into anything that that I have. Because if you don't know how to get into something, you can reset a password. You're going to get a fucking email or a text.

00:53:15.75
Mike
Right.

00:53:15.97
Bill
you know

00:53:16.65
Mike
Yeah.

00:53:17.37
Bill
But um yeah, and again, you know i mean i've got I've got life insurance in place. maybe my kids are My kids are fine. i I was going to say taken care of. um I've got enough to pay off all of my bills and you know burn my ass up and throw me wherever you want to fucking throw me.

00:53:25.54
Mike
Hm. Yep. Well.

00:53:31.52
Bill
um Because i don't I don't want to be buried anywhere. you know And I i think i I put that in there.

00:53:34.54
Mike
Hmm.

00:53:36.45
Bill
I just i think I put something like, you know it's like, what do you want? it Because it's it is this walkthrough type of thing. It's like, what do you want done with the ashes type of thing? And I'm just, you know, you put a note and I'm like, I, whatever my kids want to do to someplace, someplace beautiful, you want to keep some of me fucking keep it.

00:53:48.25
Mike
Yeah. All right.

00:53:51.84
Bill
I don't give a shit. Um, but the rest just someplace beautiful that you think is appropriate. That's it.

00:53:57.68
Mike
Yeah.

00:53:57.93
Bill
You know, I don't care. I don't fucking care. um But the thing of it is, though, is that, you know, now with this, I mean, I I need to I need to print that off. I need to get a fucking witness. I and i need to do that.

00:54:09.05
Bill
You know, it's done. It's on my computer. It's done. You know, it's just kind of I just haven't printed it off. But um but I mean, you know, that is the whole thing. You know, it's just that I don't I don't really remember how old his is his son is.

00:54:20.70
Bill
It doesn't even fucking matter.

00:54:21.98
Mike
no

00:54:22.02
Bill
He's probably in his 20s.

00:54:23.03
Mike
Hmm.

00:54:23.34
Bill
You know, I'm guessing.

00:54:23.51
Mike
Yeah. Maybe even older.

00:54:25.83
Bill
Yeah, but um

00:54:26.97
Mike
Yeah. Cause I mean, he was like our age, wasn't he?

00:54:30.52
Bill
ah Yeah, he might have been ours or older.

00:54:32.76
Mike
Yeah. Right. Well, you know, ah I be older in a few days. So no, no 58.

00:54:38.04
Bill
Are you coming? Is it 60 this year?

00:54:42.72
Bill
I know better.

00:54:44.42
Mike
It's close, but yeah. Yeah.

00:54:47.14
Bill
I know better. Yeah, i was just talking to I was just talking to a friend of mine today and a friend of mine I haven't talked to in a while. And I just sent her a text kind of seeing how she was doing or whatever. And um her and her husband had moved out to, you can't remember where they, somewhere out in West Colorado, Phoenix, Arizona, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And um just again, do you know, check it in. she did She's like, oh, I got the flu. I felt well, blah, blah, blah. bla But um I don't know, whatever it is, she's like 45 or just turned 45.

00:55:15.22
Mike
Baby.

00:55:15.35
Bill
I'm like, if she's, I know if that's ah why I said something about him like, I hear she was talking about a job thing. I know she left this one job and she's like, I want to go, I will do this. and This was too much. I'm like, like, let's do fucking short, man.

00:55:25.44
Mike
Right.

00:55:25.81
Bill
I said, you're young and you're ambitious. I said, you'll, you'll figure it out. She's like, I really appreciate you called me young. And I'm like, well, I just turned 56, you know?

00:55:33.21
Mike
Right.

00:55:34.00
Bill
And then, but what she said, which was kind of nice, she's like, she goes, ah she goes, you know, when she goes there, the older she goes, I really appreciate um aging now, you know, she's like, she's like, I think we become have the she's sober, you know, that that helps.

00:55:44.75
Mike
Well, yeah.

00:55:49.48
Bill
um But you know, she's like, I think we become better people as we age.

00:55:53.45
Mike
yeah

00:55:53.60
Bill
And I'm like, you know, and I agree with that because it's, uh, and again, if we got the rest of our lives, you know, taken care of and you know, like you and I have talked, I mean, did you ever think you were going to, I mean, we I'm going to make funny.

00:56:04.43
Bill
You wouldn't hit 60, but you know, did you have a prayer?

00:56:05.73
Mike
yeah.

00:56:06.93
Bill
You didn't have a prayer in your fucking, right.

00:56:07.83
Mike
No, hell no. I mean, yeah right. When I turned 50, people were like, are you freaked out? I was like, fuck no, man. I didn't think I was making it this far. um yeah I'm happy. I turned 50 and um I'll be happy when I'm turning.

00:56:18.27
Mike
Well, I'm not that happy, but you know, cause yeah, you're you're officially fucking old when you're 60, but yeah.

00:56:20.34
Bill
Right. right

00:56:24.95
Bill
Yeah, that is that is kind of true. So yeah, speaking of old real quick, I didn't take a quick side note, because I still want a couple of notes about about Derek.

00:56:30.45
Mike
Yes.

00:56:32.97
Bill
but um So the did you watch any of the Super Bowl?

00:56:33.34
Mike
Yeah.

00:56:36.44
Bill
I mean, the game itself. I mean, it was what it was.

00:56:37.32
Mike
No.

00:56:38.63
Bill
I sat and watched it, commercials. Some of them were fun.

00:56:40.97
Mike
Nope.

00:56:41.26
Bill
but um So T-Mobile had a commercial about um they've partnered with Starlink, which is the Elon Musk satellite thing. And I had this whole thing about blah, blah, blah.

00:56:53.43
Bill
And if you can see the sky, you can have connections. And they're showing people outlying areas. I'm like, I got to fucking look into that. you know Because um that's the point.

00:56:59.55
Mike
right

00:57:02.50
Bill
I mean, there's there's been certain areas where 80% of the time, 75% of the time, I have a cell phone signal where I'm at.

00:57:10.20
Mike
Right.

00:57:10.82
Bill
Um, but when I was in, when I was in West Virginia, when I was in all these mountains in North Carolina, all these different places, I mean, I had no fucking cell phone service.

00:57:15.59
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:57:18.93
Bill
And some of these places, literally it's like, it's like you cross into the, you know, now you're in whatever national park and you look at your, I look over my phone and it's fucking dead, you know, not dead, but

00:57:18.93
Mike
Yeah.

00:57:26.02
Mike
Right.

00:57:29.39
Mike
Yeah.

00:57:29.86
Bill
I don't have a goddamn service. you know So what they're doing is it's in like this beta mode program.

00:57:31.13
Mike
Right, right.

00:57:36.85
Bill
Between now and um July, I think they're going to give you, if you switch to T-Mobile, they're going to give you that extra service, quote unquote, for free, because it's still in a test mode.

00:57:42.23
Mike
Hmm.

00:57:46.24
Bill
And then you're going to get at a lower rate if you're one of the early adopters, blah, blah, blah.

00:57:50.09
Mike
Hmm.

00:57:50.30
Bill
um But the key to all this, and i I am going to look into it because the other thing was is there like they're like, oh, we've got the the senior plan. you know

00:57:57.58
Mike
Right. Yeah, that I know. Right.

00:57:59.80
Bill
Yeah, for 55 and older, and it's 55 a line.

00:58:01.16
Mike
Yeah.

00:58:02.71
Bill
And I'm like, I was telling Kimmy, I said, well, here's the deal. Because Kimmy's been on my cell phone plan for years.

00:58:07.42
Mike
Right.

00:58:07.48
Bill
you know And I said, well, here's the deal. I said, um this makes sense for me.

00:58:11.55
Mike
Mm hmm.

00:58:11.85
Bill
um you know This and the senior plan, but it's a satellite thing. And I think it's just from, it'd be an intelligent thing for me to do, even if it were the same cost.

00:58:20.36
Mike
Right.

00:58:20.57
Bill
um Because having that, it might just be text ability to begin with, but still. you know um Just safety. so

00:58:27.78
Mike
Yeah, absolutely.

00:58:29.07
Bill
Then I'm like, well, I said, if you don't want to switch to T-Mobile, you don't have to. I said, but I think I have to get two lines, this senior plan.

00:58:34.21
Mike
Mm

00:58:37.31
Bill
yeah You got to get two lines to get this price.

00:58:37.33
Mike
hmm.

00:58:40.12
Bill
And I was texting her to begin with just the brief notes, and I called her last night. But um when I was texting her, she's like, um you don't really seem like a senior, but OK. And I'm like, ah on paper I am.

00:58:52.22
Bill
And I'm like, fuck it.

00:58:52.76
Mike
Right.

00:58:53.58
Bill
I'm finally going to let it pay off for me a little bit, if nothing else.

00:58:55.86
Mike
Exactly. Just don't let them know the name of this podcast.

00:59:00.43
Bill
Yeah, exactly.

00:59:01.31
Mike
yeah

00:59:01.69
Bill
yeah And and you know the thing of it is, and it might all said and done, um it might come out to be the same price as what I pay with you know for Verizon. um But I mean, seriously, the even if it's for the first, it's like for the first few months, it might be data only.

00:59:16.82
Bill
But I think what they're doing from what I read is um Elon Musk and Starlink and his company and all that stuff, they're going through all the, I think all the FCC regulation shit. to make sure that to end up getting ah voice and data on there, um which it doesn't say, they've already got Starlink is already active internet service.

00:59:31.11
Mike
Yeah. Sure.

00:59:36.39
Bill
That's already there. um And now the the texting part of it, I don't know if they're tying that in kind of like that, that's just whatever. I don't know how they i don't know they designate it, but I guess when it comes to the true communication, that's where the SEC comes in, obviously with the voice, I don't know, data, I don't know, whatever it is.

00:59:53.63
Mike
I don't know.

00:59:54.54
Bill
I don't see why it would be denied would be my point, but.

00:59:57.03
Mike
Well, i i know if only he had a friend in Washington, he could talk to.

00:59:57.14
Bill
um

01:00:02.00
Bill
Yeah, that's it. You know, ah quite honestly, I didn't even I didn't even think about that. I get two things on on that guy, too, in a minute.

01:00:06.85
Mike
and oh That guy.

01:00:08.38
Bill
But um and that guy. But um so remind me, I get oh I'm just going to write it down. Hang on. oh And hang on.

01:00:19.00
Bill
i get Just two things.

01:00:19.69
Mike
Speaking of, walt while you're doing that, speaking of Washington, um I'm actually gonna be going to Washington the beginning of May.

01:00:21.58
Bill
OK.

01:00:27.49
Bill
Really? What for?

01:00:28.54
Mike
Yeah, ah Cameron is getting his bachelor through the Air Force. You guys know, it's Chris's son, hi Cameron, he listens to this show, and um right, yeah.

01:00:34.96
Bill
oh

01:00:38.75
Bill
Hello, Cameron.

01:00:40.66
Mike
So anyway, they're having the ceremony um in Washington, D.C., the first weekend of May, and we're going.

01:00:48.28
Bill
Nice.

01:00:48.79
Mike
Yeah, just bought our plane tickets this week. And, uh, so it's, uh, it's there and I've actually never been to DC. I've been through DC. I've certainly driven around DC. Um, I wrote a bus through DC one time, but I've never actually been there. So it's going to be kind of cool long weekend, Friday through Sunday.

01:01:08.45
Bill
Right. And that was actually going to be my question. I was going to say it jokingly because I you know, you've been everywhere. But um so in May in DC, is that when the cherry blossoms are up and around and

01:01:13.04
Mike
Right.

01:01:18.93
Mike
i I think it's earlier.

01:01:20.98
Bill
is It's probably probably April, I think.

01:01:21.61
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Right.

01:01:24.15
Bill
because we did I've been to DC twice and we did a we went there, it I think I told you this is a band trip, but we got to actually march in the cherry blossom parade, which is pretty fucking cool.

01:01:30.13
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:01:34.52
Mike
Cool.

01:01:34.60
Bill
um I don't know how our our a band teacher knew somebody that knew somebody, whatever, but we did that.

01:01:38.52
Mike
Right.

01:01:39.25
Bill
Very cool. um So that was senior year, no, junior year in high school.

01:01:41.99
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:01:44.41
Bill
And then Dawn and I went out there, a company I was doing some writing for had their holiday party. So we went out in, again, January, which it had snowed a couple of days before, but it was nice when we were there and that's when we kicked around and blah, blah, blah.

01:01:55.72
Mike
Yeah.

01:01:55.77
Bill
But um it's, it's cool. It's, it's fucking expensive. I mean, and you know, at the time, I mean, clearly I was still drinking, but I mean, every place it just, you know, whether it's parking or doing, doing anything, it's, it's really fucking expensive, but it's, it's, it's it's very cool.

01:02:03.05
Mike
Right.

01:02:11.01
Bill
It's very, very cool.

01:02:11.09
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. So I'm looking forward to that.

01:02:14.00
Bill
So where are they having the ceremony, do you know?

01:02:15.60
Mike
I don't know. I don't know some military thing, something I don't, I would imagine.

01:02:20.79
Bill
Well, that's, yeah, that's a silly question.

01:02:21.78
Mike
Yeah. I, I, I seriously do not know.

01:02:25.44
Bill
Right.

01:02:28.12
Bill
But no, I think, I mean, especially May, I think May, the the weather, I think, turns in the right direction in that in that time frame.

01:02:30.08
Mike
Oh yeah.

01:02:34.16
Bill
So that should be that should be nice.

01:02:34.84
Mike
Nope.

01:02:36.06
Bill
Well, that's very cool.

01:02:36.99
Mike
Yeah.

01:02:37.30
Bill
So, um all right, so a couple of quick wrap up things with, you know, with our, again, our buddy Derek in Cleveland.

01:02:42.70
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:02:43.03
Bill
um I don't know, i mean that everything everything we talked about, you know relapse does not have to you know be part of this you know this thing that we do.

01:02:51.57
Mike
No, it does not.

01:02:51.87
Bill
um And and you know the thing of it is, and we've we've talked about it openly, no, I have not relapsed yet.

01:02:55.09
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:02:57.36
Bill
um it It's not lost on me the the p the fact that people do. um I understand why people do, which maybe is part of the reason why I haven't.

01:03:05.99
Mike
Right.

01:03:06.04
Bill
But I yes, I do the work. Yes, I have the support. um Yes, I keep doing the things I need to do all that sort of stuff. um So but it's not lost on me that you know what, it's not lost to me that it could happen.

01:03:13.49
Mike
Right.

01:03:16.95
Bill
I don't, I don't feel above anyone else.

01:03:19.45
Mike
right

01:03:19.56
Bill
um But it doesn't have to be, you know, and it just it it does it it bums me out especially when when we got people that went through literally lived the same um thing that we did had the same people and the same talk go back to the reading the same love coming back at them and the same gifts coming at them and uh you know that the darrels and now the derricks and now that there's all these different people um and they end up dying and i mean it's it's it's fucking it's tragic and it's sad and it's just it's to me it's it's fucking pointless it's

01:03:32.19
Mike
Mm hmm. Hmm. Right. Right.

01:03:43.52
Mike
right

01:03:49.81
Mike
Hmm.

01:03:52.06
Bill
I don't know. Not pointless, but you know what I mean.

01:03:53.13
Mike
It is right.

01:03:54.55
Bill
It's just it's tragedy.

01:03:55.77
Mike
But again, well, I'm going to quote Bob again. It's an inside job. You know, we've got to do the work.

01:04:00.40
Bill
Right.

01:04:02.03
Mike
We've got to do the things to change our insides. Otherwise it doesn't work. You know, we have no choice.

01:04:08.84
Bill
right

01:04:11.12
Mike
Fucking powerless over the seas, gunning, baffling, and fucking powerful, man. And if I don't change the inside shit, man, it's. I have no choice.

01:04:21.15
Mike
I drink and I use that's, yeah, that's who I am.

01:04:23.17
Bill
Right.

01:04:25.42
Mike
That's what I am. I always will be, unless I do the things that they taught us to do to stay away from that first one.

01:04:33.53
Bill
right Yeah, and you know I think back and I can only speak for myself, but you know when when I walked, well, when I was taken to the Keating Center, and you know I joke about it, but it's true.

01:04:42.62
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:04:45.96
Bill
I did not, I didn't want to go. I went because I thought I didn't have any place else to go. I thought I could just you know hang out there for a month or two and just whatever.

01:04:54.25
Mike
Right.

01:04:54.41
Bill
um i didn't know what I had no plan, no plan whatsoever, but sobriety was not was not part of my plan.

01:04:58.72
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:04:59.40
Bill
but um I mean, the fact that once again, the fact that these, you know, that the people that we were placed around, and I mean, yes, I know I had to have something, there was something in there, you know, but I just, it's a it was a gift.

01:05:07.64
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:05:14.41
Bill
I mean, I was put in the right place at the right time with the right people and somehow the right mindset.

01:05:18.26
Mike
Oh.

01:05:20.65
Bill
And then, you know, once I once i got my shit together after nine months,

01:05:24.73
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:05:24.83
Bill
yeah Um, yeah, you know, I just I i've done the work, you know, and uh, it just it's um, I don't know It's it is as tragic as it bums me out that I hate I I feel for his son and his family and um, you know all those people that and that's the thing, you know all the people that that we leave behind when we do this shit the fucking pain and um, just the pain that we cause people You know when when we are just selfish motherfuckers, it's all it comes down to you know

01:05:29.34
Mike
Yeah.

01:05:41.63
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:05:50.98
Mike
Yes, it does. Period.

01:05:52.48
Bill
So, exactly.

01:05:53.93
Mike
Yep.

01:05:54.78
Bill
All right, selfish motherfuckers, rest in peace, God damn it.

01:05:57.80
Mike
Well, yeah.

01:05:59.15
Bill
But no, seriously, I mean, I feel for his family, um you know, it's all like all I can say. Thoughts and prayers, special intentions, all that stuff.

01:06:04.77
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:06:07.57
Bill
Alright, okay, I get to I I try not I don't want to talk about politics, but I have to talk about this dumb fuck for a minute um Really nothing to do with politics as far as just this this is like him being an eight-year-old, you know, which is more majority whatever so the

01:06:13.40
Mike
Good. All right. Ah.

01:06:23.59
Bill
The whole Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America thing, I don't i don't understand it. It or reminded me immediately of back when whoever was that Bush that was president that started calling them freedom fries rather than French fries.

01:06:36.80
Mike
Ah, yes.

01:06:37.61
Bill
Who who was that? Was that Bush?

01:06:38.81
Mike
I believe it was Bush one.

01:06:40.74
Bill
yeah but okay Yeah, and I'm like, fucking freedom fries? Really?

01:06:44.56
Mike
Yeah.

01:06:45.11
Bill
No, I'm getting the order of fucking French fries.

01:06:48.31
Mike
and see Right.

01:06:48.71
Bill
It has nothing to do with a goddamn French. It's a food. and it's It's a body of water. you know it's It's a thing. it's always it's It's the Gulf of Mexico.

01:06:59.14
Bill
you know what's What the fuck is wrong with that?

01:06:59.38
Mike
Right.

01:07:01.40
Bill
you know And then now, did you see what Google did? So Google Maps says, if you are in America, it shows Gulf of America.

01:07:08.01
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:07:10.38
Bill
If you're in Mexico it'll on Google Maps, it'll show Gulf of Mexico.

01:07:10.39
Mike
All right.

01:07:14.86
Bill
If you are in, um I don't know, Finland, for instance, if you looked at it, it would show Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of America, or other way around, whatever.

01:07:18.31
Mike
Yes.

01:07:22.31
Mike
Okay.

01:07:23.18
Bill
It's got both names on it. And now apparently somebody, and I just saw the blurb of the article today and I just laughed and didn't even look at it, but somebody out there or some group out there is is trying to sue Google maps, I think for changing it or something.

01:07:36.18
Mike
Hmm.

01:07:36.96
Bill
I'm just like, Oh my God, I just, I don't, I don't understand it.

01:07:37.18
Mike
Um, all right.

01:07:41.09
Bill
I'm not looking for an explanation. I just want to say, I don't, I don't understand. It's like a, again, an eight year old, like I want to, I want to call that that, you know?

01:07:47.71
Mike
Right. Exactly. Well, I mean, I, I saw a nice meme that said the Gulf of Van Halen.

01:07:53.63
Bill
I saw the Gulf of Metallica, I saw the Gulf of, I called that, I saw the Gulf of, I forget what they had, they they had something, they had the Gulf of Cowboys still suck, and they had its, and they, hey yeah, the Gulf of Cowboys still suck, and then it just, it's like the one, they showed the water spread all the way up into Dallas, um which I thought that was funny.

01:07:55.31
Mike
Ah.

01:08:05.72
Mike
I like that one.

01:08:14.70
Mike
That's good.

01:08:15.44
Bill
And then I saw, um you know, like ah all all the different lakes, like renamed, all the great lakes, renamed by the Canadians, like,

01:08:20.13
Mike
Ah, yes. Yes, right. I saw that as well.

01:08:24.75
Bill
Then there was, ah you know, of course, Wisconsin people wanting to change Lake Michigan to Lake Wisconsin.

01:08:29.91
Mike
Sure.

01:08:30.42
Bill
um And then the funniest one I saw, because you know what quick trip is, the okay, the gas station, whatever.

01:08:34.52
Mike
see Sure.

01:08:37.14
Bill
So it was ah it was Gulf of Wisconsin brought to you by quick trip.

01:08:44.60
Bill
And I'm like, that's fucking funny because yeah, you can't go anywhere in Wisconsin without seeing a goddamn quick trip.

01:08:46.87
Mike
That's good.

01:08:50.35
Bill
But so, so that was that, that was that whole thing.

01:08:50.46
Mike
No, you cannot.

01:08:53.31
Bill
But then did you hear that he wants to buy Greenland?

01:08:57.53
Mike
Yes. Awesome about that.

01:08:59.68
Bill
Okay. So, okay. Here are two things. I don't know if it's the country or I mean, he's probably got the money. You could buy it on his own if you wanted to, I suppose, but I don't know, whatever it is, whether it's it, whether it's him or whatever. and did Did you hear what he wants to rename it?

01:09:12.04
Mike
No, I did not.

01:09:14.39
Bill
fucking red white and blue land i'm

01:09:17.93
Mike
Ah.

01:09:21.63
Bill
like you're such a fucking child um it's like you know i i don't know again but walking around eight years old and i want to i want to name that you know uh i don't know Billy Drive or something like that.

01:09:33.63
Mike
Sure.

01:09:34.26
Bill
um you know I wanna name this, up I don't know, ah purple Purple Yard. I'm like, really? And they this picture of him is just this this fucking infantile smile, just like he's you know showing Trump, oh, Trump wants to buy a Greenland.

01:09:45.99
Mike
sir

01:09:48.83
Bill
And I'm like, oh my God. If you want to buy Greenland, fucking go buy Greenland. I don't give a goddamn, you know, but hey does everything have to be, I mean, you just got to, this, I could have said, Trumpland, you know, I suppose he could have said it.

01:09:53.85
Mike
Right.

01:10:03.17
Mike
um i get Right. You know, well, I'm sure I'll put the sign up. Um, right.

01:10:07.98
Bill
Hey, red, white, and blue land, draw to you by Trump. Yeah, I know.

01:10:14.24
Mike
Yeah.

01:10:14.37
Bill
It just it just made me it made me laugh.

01:10:14.40
Mike
Yeah.

01:10:16.26
Bill
I don't understand the Gulf of Mexico thing. I don't understand retaining green land. But that that's it. that's ah Is that political? That's just stupid. That's just stupidity on his part.

01:10:24.69
Mike
but It's just, yes, societal nonsense.

01:10:25.33
Bill
so Right.

01:10:28.57
Mike
That's why I stay locked in my house and make sure my mortgage is paid. Yup, and try to ignore all of that nonsense.

01:10:37.24
Bill
Right. So anyhow, it just, that was a lot about nothing, but it just, it honestly made me laugh. Okay. So, you know, speaking of that, um, in this, I wrote this down a while ago and this has to do with you, my friend, Mike, and I, cause I don't, I don't know the answer to this.

01:10:48.62
Mike
but All right. Okay.

01:10:50.92
Bill
How did you, um, how did you get started driving a truck?

01:10:56.01
Mike
Ah, um, let's see. Well, uh, in 1977, there's a little movie called Smokey and the Bandit.

01:11:09.29
Bill
hu

01:11:12.03
Mike
seventy-seven seventy-eight something like that right somewhere in there right there's a man named Jerry Reed and he was a wonderful songwriter and guitar player and yes he played a character called snowman cleetus snow and um I don't know just look like a goddamn good way to live your life

01:11:13.54
Bill
Yeah, in that area.

01:11:33.91
Mike
oh

01:11:35.13
Bill
ha

01:11:36.64
Mike
And, um, you know, after the, after the music thing, uh, tanked out and, uh, so that wasn't happening and, you know, what the fuck am I going to do with the rest of my life? Um, I harkened back to seeing Jer Reed driving that big old Kenworth and smoky in the band. It went, man, it looks like that could be a pretty good fucking life. So, uh, yeah.

01:11:59.39
Bill
That's, you know, and seriously, I mean, and, and for everyone out there, I mean, Mike and I had known each other literally almost, almost 15 years. And I, um, I know he drove, you know, before, you know, before he got sober and, um, obviously took a break in there, but, um, I just, I, I had never asked that question and it just popped into my head one day when I think when you were either when I was going back trying to schedule something to be on or whatever the case was, I'm like, yeah, with Mike's schedule and driving a truck.

01:12:06.18
Mike
is Right. Yep. Yeah. All right.

01:12:23.57
Bill
And maybe somebody said, you know, Oh, he drives a truck. How long has he been doing that? Like ah forever. It may, however it was it popped in.

01:12:28.56
Mike
Right.

01:12:29.32
Bill
I had no idea that's see okay so 77 you would have been um what 11 okay did you want to buy did you want to buy Greenland at the time too but see but see what a what a great you know an unintentional great segue that literally i mean but but it's turned out to be you know your

01:12:35.66
Mike
Yeah. 10.

01:12:39.92
Mike
I did. How did you know?

01:12:48.88
Mike
Of course I wanted to change it to black and blue land, but.

01:12:52.10
Bill
right But I mean, it's turned out to be a great vocation for you and all those sort of things, but you know, at the time, literally you watched a movie and you wanted to, you know, it's kind of like somebody wants to be a cowboy, you wanted to be a truck driver, which is wonderful, you know?

01:12:56.10
Mike
Sure.

01:13:02.45
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

01:13:05.80
Bill
So you drove all the way through up until you got, how long before you got sober did you stop driving? Cause I don't remember that part either.

01:13:14.96
Mike
Right. Right. no i Well, actually I, okay. So, um, I, uh, attempted sobriety, um, when I was 32 ish somewhere. I don't know now a little older than that. Anyway, um, got into a program, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And, uh, got hooked up to go to truck driving school again. Um, it was at that point in my life. It was like, okay, I'm going to have to do something. Um,

01:13:42.64
Mike
Yeah. Harkening back to, you know, freedom, uh, not chained to an office or a factory or whatever. Um, you know, kind of a, something I think I could live my life doing, um, yeah.

01:13:55.22
Bill
Right.

01:13:56.39
Mike
So then, um, I, you know, I didn't stay sober, but I got my CDL, um, I always show for a couple of years at that point. And then, uh, it got out of, you know, it got. Silly.

01:14:07.79
Mike
Um, cause I was still drinking and, uh, couldn't, couldn't maintain that anymore.

01:14:09.75
Bill
Right.

01:14:12.44
Mike
And so, yeah, uh, again, went back, uh, you know, I was out there, uh, it was about seven years. I didn't drive something like that.

01:14:23.56
Mike
Yeah. You know, at the end, the last seven years. And then, uh, yeah. You know, then I got sober and then I worked in that shitty metal shop for about a year and a half. And, and then I was sitting at the book study at the Keating center and our buddy West walked in and said, Hey, you still got your CDL?

01:14:37.85
Bill
hey

01:14:39.54
Mike
I said, yes, I do. He said, here call this number. I said, all right, went back out on the road.

01:14:45.54
Bill
right yeah and that was that was great we talked about that in one of the one of the early episodes because it was uh yeah whatever that dude jack something that uh gave west the number which was like ah a guy that you just the guys you fucking despised and for good for good reason i think you know at the at the time but

01:14:50.63
Mike
Yeah.

01:14:56.35
Mike
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Right. mrs

01:15:02.66
Bill
um But yeah, yeah ah just again, I didn't, I remember the truck driving school things. I remember that part of the story. I just, I never remembered, um you know, if if I ever asked you, you know, kind of where that, where that thought came in.

01:15:10.15
Mike
Right. Yeah.

01:15:15.67
Bill
But I mean, honestly, it's, it's kind of cool. And I know that, that you, you specifically tried to get, you know, for no better way to put it, make sure you had all your shit together before you start driving again.

01:15:24.64
Mike
Right. Yeah. Oh yeah.

01:15:26.03
Bill
um Because with Sandy, you were gone for sometimes times up to two, three weeks at a time, right?

01:15:30.08
Mike
Oh yeah.

01:15:30.16
Bill
If I remember correctly.

01:15:30.56
Mike
Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Two, three, occasionally four. Yup. Yeah. Right. why and ah I was over the road when I drove before and was drinking, had a cooler in the back with a 12 pack of Budweiser and a fifth of wild Turkey.

01:15:39.92
Bill
Right.

01:15:45.44
Mike
um Yeah. You know, I didn't drink when I drove, but at the end of the day, when I shut down, that fucker came out. and Yeah. Um So yeah, it was in the truck I knew where all the truck stops that sold beer were I knew all the liquor stores around the country that were near truck stops that I could get to um Yeah, it was super for My life revolved around it Right

01:16:00.96
Bill
ah

01:16:12.96
Bill
Right, well, and, you know, I didn't do, I so sure as fuck didn't do, this is the most cross-country driving that I've ever done in my life, you know, that I'm doing now. um But still, like I said before, I mean, I noticed all the liquor stores, all the bars, all that different shit.

01:16:26.63
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:16:27.15
Bill
I mean, it just, I can't, I can't not see them and I'm not trying to.

01:16:30.19
Mike
Right. Right.

01:16:31.33
Bill
But, you know, I did a lot of, for years, I mean, a number of years did a lot of traveling around, which I've talked about around Wisconsin, conferences and meetings and all those different things and yeah I mean all the time I knew and there was a lot of times I was going to what Wisconsin we've you driven in Wisconsin there's 94 there's in Milwaukee there's 41 and there's 43 going north but those two things when you get to a certain point by like Appleton you know you can split off and go up towards Green Bay or split off the other direction

01:16:47.79
Mike
Sure. Mm hmm. Right. Oh,

01:17:01.57
Bill
And then when you get out to Madison, I mean, there's there's like, you know, 39 that goes this, there's not that many highways, you know?

01:17:06.75
Mike
Right.

01:17:07.20
Bill
So to get to any major metropolitan area, you're going theoretically in one of the same directions all the time. So I'm again, same thing passing the same, you know, off the highway, these liquor stores, it always, I knew where everything was.

01:17:19.05
Mike
Yup.

01:17:19.38
Bill
Fucking everything.

01:17:20.21
Mike
Well, we'll throw in, you know, I haven't an 80 Wheeler.

01:17:20.94
Bill
Oh my God, damn time. yeah

01:17:24.73
Mike
You can't just pull into any one of them. You gotta, you gotta, right.

01:17:27.10
Bill
Oh, yeah, that's a good point.

01:17:28.44
Mike
You know, occasionally I'd have to, uh, you know, there was a couple of spots where I had to park on the on-ramp and walk a half a mile. Um, but you do what you gotta do.

01:17:40.33
Bill
What are you gonna do to get your drink?

01:17:41.72
Mike
Yeah, that's right.

01:17:42.70
Bill
I don't know the fuck I got, whatever the fuck I gotta do.

01:17:45.76
Mike
You know, right. My favorite though, was little rock. Cause there was literally a liquor store right on the edge of the ah huge truck stop parking lot. It was like, I don't know why there weren't more of those, but little rock, Arkansas, there's a Petro there or there's a fucking liquor store right on the edge of the parking lot.

01:18:03.90
Bill
Really, okay.

01:18:04.14
Mike
Yep.

01:18:05.55
Bill
Yeah, and that's, ah that's

01:18:05.91
Mike
And actually Wisconsin was nice because most of the truck stops up there sold hard liquor, which was rare in the country.

01:18:12.88
Bill
Right.

01:18:13.47
Mike
Yeah.

01:18:14.83
Bill
You know, and I'm, uh, well, I can't, I don't, I don't pay attention to it in the truck stops. But when I was, when I was traveling, um, I, I could go in almost any place. It was, I never had trouble finding, getting a pint of something, you know, anywhere.

01:18:27.04
Mike
No, no.

01:18:27.94
Bill
I mean, I never, I never had a problem doing that.

01:18:28.73
Mike
Right.

01:18:29.81
Bill
So I guess it doesn't, that doesn't surprise me because, uh, again, even doing what I was doing, wherever a gaffa get gas stations, you know, everyone's got fucking booze.

01:18:36.60
Mike
Right. Oh yeah. Right. Wisconsin. Yeah. That's what, yeah, I was, I liked going to Wisconsin.

01:18:39.64
Bill
Right.

01:18:42.46
Mike
It was easy up there. There were places where it was difficult. I mean, there was, um, I, you know, there were blue laws and shit. I remember one time I was in, I was actually not too far from Kathy.

01:18:55.04
Mike
I was in, uh, um, uh, uh, fucking South bend.

01:18:59.48
Bill
Right.

01:18:59.51
Mike
Um, right. And it was a Sunday.

01:19:01.88
Bill
Oh, sure.

01:19:02.02
Mike
Guess what? Yeah.

01:19:03.05
Bill
Yep.

01:19:03.45
Mike
I had to drive over to Michigan to get booze.

01:19:05.90
Bill
Right.

01:19:06.42
Mike
Yeah.

01:19:09.65
Mike
Yeah. You know, I was down South one time and I was in a dry County and didn't know it. I had to drive about 50 miles, but I, you know, yeah. And that was before, um you know, it was all the GPS and shit on the truck.

01:19:21.78
Mike
So I could get away with it back then. I couldn't do that now.

01:19:24.49
Bill
Right, yeah.

01:19:25.72
Mike
Thankfully I don't have to.

01:19:27.38
Bill
Well, yeah, and then that's the thing. And I mean, God's speaking of, I mean, years, years ago, I mean, in those situations, I mean, we're, you know, that's back in the map days, you know, you had to catch, you had somebody that was like, yeah, I go 25 mile down there and turn right.

01:19:36.24
Mike
Right.

01:19:40.14
Mike
Yup.

01:19:40.61
Bill
And yeah, turn right at the big oak tree and all those sort of things.

01:19:41.18
Mike
Yup.

01:19:44.00
Bill
But um yeah, I mean, in in Indiana, I mean, well, Christ, I mean, Kathy and Mark lived there for years. And um I mean, Mark and I drove to Michigan a couple of times to get beer because there's a weekend when, you know, we we we drank ourselves out of booze, you know, so I think I'll fucking get some.

01:19:52.89
Mike
help Nope. Nope.

01:19:59.76
Bill
You know, it'd be a holiday and have people over and whatever, and it's like, well, yeah, we we drank too much, so I guess we gotta to go get some more. But um yeah, it's, I mean, in in Wisconsin, it used to be, it was always, was it 9, 9 p.m.?

01:20:06.30
Mike
Ooh.

01:20:14.77
Bill
It used to be like 9, was it 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.? There was some gas stations that would sell until midnight.

01:20:19.88
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:20:23.08
Bill
Rare. But that you know but I knew where those gas stations were.

01:20:25.72
Mike
Sure.

01:20:26.44
Bill
you know If I needed to buy some beer or whatever. But most of the time in Wisconsin, I don't know. Again, gladly. I don't know what it is now. um But you know it was 9 p.m. you at a certain point. And and on Sundays, that was never a problem.

01:20:38.47
Bill
so

01:20:38.56
Mike
Sure. Yeah. Little planning here. I'll take care of.

01:20:41.55
Bill
Oh, God, yeah. Well, in and the same thing. When I worked at True Green, you know, the last, well, second last job that I had, you know, I didn't have to be to work until a certain point. And I knew the grocery store opened at 8 a.m.

01:20:54.96
Bill
at that point, you know, where they'd start selling. And, you know, I get there right at, you know, 8 a.m.

01:20:57.17
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:20:59.19
Bill
because I had to be to work at 9.

01:20:59.51
Mike
Hmm.

01:21:00.17
Bill
So I had enough time. I get ready, go to the liquor store, buy the beer and shit that I needed to go back, you know, silly five minutes away, go back, drop all this stuff off where I was living and then go to work, you know, because I had to be to work at 9.

01:21:10.43
Mike
Oh.

01:21:11.68
Bill
um But I'm like, I didn't, I got off of work by the time I got done, you know, we work late, you know, so I wouldn't have time.

01:21:18.53
Mike
Yeah.

01:21:18.72
Bill
So I'm sitting there fucking eight in the morning on a Tuesday.

01:21:23.14
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:24.04
Bill
like again yeah i want to I want one of those big ass, buy you know, big ass fucking bottle in a 30 pack.

01:21:27.44
Mike
Yep.

01:21:29.23
Bill
Boom. And I'll be back on Thursday as if you don't know me.

01:21:31.68
Mike
Uh-huh.

01:21:33.95
Bill
Jesus Christ. Okay. Well, thank you for telling me your truck story. So I get, I get two more.

01:21:37.49
Mike
Sure.

01:21:38.83
Bill
I, I, one article, I want to read you about it. Um, one thing from another Mark Baron thing, Demi Moore, um, he had on his podcast this week or last week, which, um, she's in, she's in land man.

01:21:47.21
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:21:51.35
Bill
Um, she's in some new, I guess some new really weird fucking movie that she got nominated for something with, uh, which I didn't see, but there you go.

01:21:54.58
Mike
Yeah. The substance. I'm dying to see it actually.

01:21:58.60
Bill
There you go.

01:21:59.70
Mike
Yeah. Um, the moment in the monkey, speaking of friends, um, did a review on it on their, uh, yeah, their podcast, uh, this last week.

01:22:04.94
Bill
Oh really?

01:22:08.64
Mike
Yeah. Or no, I'm the hangover, the after show. And yeah, I definitely, I'm just waiting for Chris and I to have some time to sit down and watch it. It sounds really good. Yes, it's supposed to be very creepy, very horrific, very graphic, and I'm i'm looking forward to it.

01:22:23.42
Bill
Yeah.

01:22:25.68
Bill
Well, and they were talking about it on the the morning show that i that I listened to, because I wouldn't have known anything of it.

01:22:28.50
Mike
Right?

01:22:30.32
Bill
But yeah, again, more, like I said, not not just that, but she's been on Landman, which they didn't, ah he didn't talk about that with her. Mark Baird didn't.

01:22:36.76
Mike
Hmm.

01:22:37.09
Bill
But the the thing of it is, and um so a couple of things, that she's sober, she had, ah apparently she's got like, Now she's got like 13 years, 12, 13.

01:22:46.71
Mike
Cool.

01:22:47.29
Bill
She had a number of years and then um had, I think she called it a ah detour, misdirection.

01:22:51.53
Mike
Uh

01:22:54.06
Bill
She fucking relapsed and she was, she just called it whatever it was.

01:22:54.58
Mike
-huh. Sure.

01:22:57.30
Bill
But I mean, she's like, yeah, she goes, now I got, you know, whatever it was. She got 13 years back or 12 back or whatever.

01:23:00.51
Mike
Cool.

01:23:02.51
Bill
um But the, this line um I ended up writing down and said, this is the way she looks at, looks at life. She said, things aren't happening to me. Things are happening for me.

01:23:14.01
Mike
Yeah. know

01:23:14.92
Bill
And um she said she she said that ah basically tries to look at everything. um Everything is a lesson. And I'm like, God damn it, I like that. you know I mean, we we talk about that sort of, but not really in those terms.

01:23:27.10
Mike
Mm hmm. Sure.

01:23:28.97
Bill
But again, just saying that things are happening not happening to me, things are happening for me. um I just like the way she put that because we talked about, you know, when people say why me and it's well, why not me, you know, um that that sort of thing.

01:23:40.56
Mike
Right.

01:23:43.11
Bill
But I just I really liked it.

01:23:44.10
Mike
Yeah. and No bad examples. Same sort of thing. Right.

01:23:48.22
Bill
Exactly, exactly.

01:23:49.29
Mike
Yep.

01:23:50.10
Bill
But she was ah she was another one. ah I mean, i've I've always liked to be more.

01:23:53.12
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:23:53.56
Bill
So I mean, it was just it was fun, you know, kind of listening to her and and all that sort of stuff and talking about her, you know, kind of her upcoming and, you know, coming up and all that stuff. But but yeah, so that was interesting.

01:24:01.91
Mike
Right.

01:24:03.90
Bill
OK, so back to back to the driving thing.

01:24:06.88
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:07.20
Bill
And this is for this is for you, my friend, Mike. OK.

01:24:11.21
Mike
All right.

01:24:12.92
Bill
So once again, article that they had talked about, uh, on the morning show, if I can get this fucking article open, God damn it. Hang on. Here we go. I'm like, this fucking thing isn't opening up.

01:24:25.82
Bill
Okay. So America's worst drivers by car brand.

01:24:29.90
Mike
e Ah, mm hmm.

01:24:32.43
Bill
Okay. um I know you're gonna guess one of them, because you talk about it all the time, but um who do you think the, well, I wouldn't even say pick anyone that might be in the top five.

01:24:38.60
Mike
Uh huh.

01:24:45.52
Mike
Subaru.

01:24:47.63
Bill
Ding, ding.

01:24:48.49
Mike
Yep.

01:24:48.67
Bill
number Number three though, that's number three.

01:24:50.24
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:51.27
Bill
That was the first thing.

01:24:51.40
Mike
Okay.

01:24:51.91
Bill
And I thought about you right away when they were, cause you know, again, Carrie who reads on the morning show, when she said, I'm like, it's gotta be Subaru. Cause you're the one that talks about it.

01:24:59.48
Mike
Yeah.

01:24:59.62
Bill
And you're the one that's out in front of these fucking people all the time.

01:25:01.81
Mike
Right.

01:25:03.25
Bill
So the number one was actually a Ram truck.

01:25:07.76
Mike
Ah, I could see that. Yeah.

01:25:09.15
Bill
And I was, I was like, yeah.

01:25:09.33
Mike
They're a bunch of assholes driving those too.

01:25:11.49
Bill
And I was like, to begin with, I'm like, really? I'm like, oh, okay. Yeah, I get it. And then number two, Tesla.

01:25:17.82
Mike
Yeah.

01:25:18.53
Bill
Okay, which I'm like, that makes perfect fucking sense.

01:25:18.65
Mike
Right. Which slides into the Subaru thing too. Cause there's all the fucking safety features on them and shit. And they think that the car is driving itself when clearly it's not.

01:25:30.32
Bill
Right. So a little side note, have you ever driven, does your car have lane assist in it?

01:25:35.79
Mike
Um, it does. I've turned it off.

01:25:38.21
Bill
okay so and i don't i don't have mine on but i i there was one car that i uh i think i had a loner car when i had my avalon it was a toyota that i had for loner car that had it um it's just fucking weird i mean i i turned it on this car has it so i turned it on just you know hands kind of out i mean it's not like you could sit back like you've seen the bart simpson or the the simpson one where bart's just like he

01:25:46.01
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.

01:25:59.76
Mike
Right. Homer.

01:26:01.42
Bill
Well, no, Bart's in the back seat where they stole the car from the parents. and He's in the back seat with Millhouse and um Nelson.

01:26:05.97
Mike
Ah.

01:26:07.12
Bill
They're like, what are you doing? Who's driving? He's like, yeah, he goes, I got the cruise on.

01:26:09.84
Mike
Right.

01:26:11.93
Bill
um But yeah, it's just it. Yes, it's fucking weird. But um hang on one second. I'm just going to see. So Ford is, ah Ford's way down there.

01:26:22.45
Mike
Yeah, it's straight. I'm right. It is case.

01:26:24.14
Bill
I'm just trying to see where Honda's far enough down. I don't even, I didn't look to see. oh

01:26:29.89
Mike
You didn't guess I'm a Ford guy.

01:26:32.57
Bill
Right, and one, two, three, four, five. Five down from Ford is Acura, thank you very much.

01:26:39.68
Mike
All right.

01:26:41.09
Bill
You're like, oh, whatever. um Hang on one second here, Top Car Brands, we already got that one. Yeah, so even the top 10, Volkswagens number four, Mazda five, BMW six, Lexus seven, Infinity eight.

01:26:55.77
Mike
Mm hmm. Nope.

01:27:00.16
Bill
um Nine is Hyundai and Toyota 10.

01:27:03.93
Mike
Really?

01:27:04.26
Bill
Okay, yeah.

01:27:05.02
Mike
Subaru and Audi aren't on there anywhere.

01:27:07.76
Bill
um Subaru was number...

01:27:08.59
Mike
I mean, not Subaru, but, um, oddies and, uh, sobs is what I meant.

01:27:12.55
Bill
Nope, nope, not in the top 10.

01:27:14.49
Mike
Really.

01:27:15.49
Bill
Not in the top 10.

01:27:15.91
Mike
Assholes driving those too.

01:27:17.84
Bill
Yeah. Can I, that was more of a, I, I, I haven't seen, you know what? I don't, I see plenty of Audi drivers. I don't see a lot of, uh, uh, sobs anymore these days, but I mean you again, you're everywhere.

01:27:26.16
Mike
Yeah, right.

01:27:29.15
Bill
So, but there was, um, the top.

01:27:29.18
Mike
Yeah.

01:27:31.91
Bill
Oh yeah. Okay. So, um, but but bob who do you think the highest DUI count is by vehicle brand?

01:27:43.35
Mike
Hmm.

01:27:50.64
Mike
Um, God, yeah. No, I'm trying to, uh, what do you drunk strive?

01:27:59.88
Bill
is if it I'll ah tell you, this one surprised me a little bit, because I'm thinking that you know drunks, I don't know. well its It just depends. it's I think of a ah drunk driver a lot of times in, I don't know, depending on how bad off you are, you might be in a lower end vehicle.

01:28:15.74
Bill
This is a higher this is a higher end vehicle.

01:28:16.12
Mike
Right. Hmm.

01:28:18.76
Bill
So I'll kind of lean you that way a little bit.

01:28:21.22
Mike
All right. Um, shit. Mercedes.

01:28:25.32
Bill
You know what? I mean, they're they're kind of the same BMW.

01:28:28.15
Mike
Okay. Yeah.

01:28:29.46
Bill
But it says BMW, sixth worst in drivers overall all has the highest DUI count, 3.13 per thousand. And I'm like, really?

01:28:41.58
Bill
I mean, again, and nothing wrong with that. BMWs are, I mean, there're um they're not cheap, you know?

01:28:47.19
Mike
Right.

01:28:47.93
Bill
And you would think it'd be more of your all day, every day, I don't know, some dude in a fucking Chevy or a truck or, you know, just an average whatever vehicle, but yeah, BMW is at, again, highest, so.

01:28:51.87
Mike
Yeah.

01:28:54.85
Mike
Hmm.

01:28:58.39
Bill
It just kind of blew my mind. I just thought when I heard this, I'm like, eh, you'd like the worst driver list.

01:29:03.63
Mike
Yes, absolutely.

01:29:05.35
Bill
And I'm trying to see, so you said sob in Audi. I'm even looking on the, oh, Audi is, um ah, Audi's ahead of Ford as worse.

01:29:13.35
Mike
Hmm.

01:29:17.78
Bill
So one, two, three, four, four ahead of Ford behind like Kia.

01:29:18.16
Mike
Right.

01:29:23.08
Mike
Huh.

01:29:24.49
Bill
So Toyota's 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. Audi is 15 on the list.

01:29:28.34
Mike
All right. Yeah. Up there. Like I said, you know, I, I see an audio and I go, Oh, this guy's going to do something fucking stupid.

01:29:30.71
Bill
Right.

01:29:36.21
Bill
Yeah, and I see. I don't see Saab on here because I haven't.

01:29:38.76
Mike
Right.

01:29:39.67
Bill
But again,

01:29:39.93
Mike
the Right.

01:29:41.87
Bill
You know, there I think the Subaru, I went once again, when she said the list, I'm like, Subaru has got to be, I was thinking that was going to be number one.

01:29:49.07
Mike
Yeah.

01:29:49.13
Bill
Because again, you're the you're the one that says it.

01:29:50.38
Mike
Mm-hmm.

01:29:50.85
Bill
i I believe you just because you're out there all the time.

01:29:53.42
Mike
Right.

01:29:53.91
Bill
um You see far more fucking cars than I do. And I do now. I see some. you know But um you know certainly not.

01:29:57.78
Mike
Sure.

01:30:00.10
Bill
i don't I don't do as much driving as you do, even with the the amount of distance I drive. It's a different story.

01:30:04.98
Mike
Right.

01:30:05.56
Bill
so

01:30:06.07
Mike
Right. Exactly. You know, I mean, I, I average 300 to 400 miles a day. So yeah.

01:30:11.41
Bill
Right.

01:30:12.22
Mike
Right.

01:30:12.50
Bill
Well, well that you on top of that, I mean, a a lot of times um um on I'm on the highway, you're in far more congested areas than than I am.

01:30:18.56
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:30:19.63
Bill
And sometimes I'm on highway between three and six in the morning.

01:30:23.48
Mike
a

01:30:23.92
Bill
So I'm kind of when when the traffic's a little a little thinned out.

01:30:27.38
Mike
Right.

01:30:28.19
Bill
you know so but um right But yeah, I don't know. I think I think i got plenty of more things on here, but i think we're I think we're good.

01:30:36.24
Mike
Sure.

01:30:38.33
Bill
What do you think there, Mikey Mike?

01:30:39.26
Mike
i I believe we are pretty damn good.

01:30:43.04
Bill
All right, your turn.

01:30:44.55
Mike
All right. What the hell is this? Oh.

01:30:48.30
Mike
Somebody sent me something. I will look at that later. ah

01:30:53.92
Mike
All right, well, thank you everyone for listening to another episode of sober not mature It's always be kind to each other be good to each other Go out there do something nice for somebody else this week and don't tell anybody you did it Think we just read something about that not too long ago All right And now from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul from the beginning of time till the ends of the earth always and Eternally fuck you and now it's that time kids You have come to the time in the program or it is time for you to fuck off Then keep fucking off Keep fucking off till you get to a gate with a sign on it saying you cannot fuck off past here Climb over that gate dream the impossible dream and keep fucking off forever

01:31:50.19
Bill
You were quite boisterous through that one. I like that. Kind of a showman type of attitude going into this one.

01:31:54.76
Mike
That's right. Casey case have got me going.

01:31:57.17
Bill
yeah Well, you know what? And it's fitting for the end of season six. I'm i'm glad i'm glad that you you know wrapped up that one like a you know with a bang like that.

01:32:01.79
Mike
Yes.

01:32:06.41
Bill
Should we talk about scissoring again? Just kind of you know push everything together and wrap everything up for the rest.

01:32:07.78
Mike
Now we'll cut that part out. See what I did there? Scissoring. We'll cut it out.

01:32:15.39
Bill
yeah Yeah, it's a good goddamn thing we don't edit a fucking thing. That's the only other, listening the, I can, i the sober motivation podcast. Again, love it, great podcast. He edits, you can tell he edits a lot.

01:32:26.89
Mike
Sure.

01:32:27.09
Bill
You can tell in the conversations, which again, fine. I'm not criticizing people for editing. I'm just glad that I don't have to do it.

01:32:31.68
Mike
Right.

01:32:33.45
Bill
um You know, I don't want to do it. And I love the fact that what what you guys hear out there is everything that came out of these fucking voices and mouths of ours.

01:32:42.59
Mike
That's right.

01:32:43.34
Bill
We've never, we've never had to, we've never had to intentionally edit anything. We've lost some, lost some shit every once in a while.

01:32:47.10
Mike
That's right.

01:32:49.59
Mike
Occasionally we self edit in our heads, but not even too much of that.

01:32:52.25
Bill
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. but i Right. So, okay. But, uh, oh, real quick side note. I have, I have remote start on my car too.

01:32:58.90
Mike
Yes.

01:33:01.81
Bill
hu I've never had, I've never had a car with her remote start before.

01:33:01.91
Mike
Yes.

01:33:05.26
Mike
Yeah. It's nice, isn't it?

01:33:06.93
Bill
Oh, it was so.

01:33:07.44
Mike
Especially on those cold mornings.

01:33:09.43
Bill
Oh, I used it when I went to get, when I went to get pizza today and then last, last week.

01:33:12.25
Mike
yeah

01:33:13.87
Bill
So just, just real quick. And this is how I found out. So I'm standing there when I got the car and Prescott in this, uh, you know, this, it was the chick that ended up dropping off.

01:33:20.46
Mike
Mm hmm.

01:33:21.57
Bill
She's doing what she's doing in this dark out whenever, and I'm holding the key and I had already gotten started. The car moved in. I already got my radio and stuff set cause it was, you know, getting late. I was going to have to get up early.

01:33:30.30
Mike
Right.

01:33:30.62
Bill
and i I'm looking at the key fob and I'm standing outside with it. so I kind of walked up to the light and it says right at the top of my key fob you know where it's got the lock, unlock, the trunk, whatever, right at the top. It says engine. I'm like, does this thing have a remote start?

01:33:43.81
Bill
so Press the press that it didn't work because I just know from watching people do it and listening.

01:33:45.93
Mike
Right.

01:33:49.53
Bill
Hit the lock button.

01:33:50.26
Mike
Yup. Yeah.

01:33:51.16
Bill
held it down and it starts and i'm like oh my fucking god i'm like are you fucking kidding me i'm like oh but uh yeah i read i read about the whole thing and how long it goes on and you know i did it when i was uh hiking last weekend because i was i was coming up to the car because it was cold i was cold as fuck by the time i got back it was like 30 degrees or 32 degrees um great time but chilly so i just started it up and uh i mean it it blasts the heat like it

01:34:06.68
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right. Uh-huh.

01:34:19.04
Bill
whatever it does it sets it like 72 degrees it said because i read all of it i mean all this that the radio's not on nothing's goes on it just has this fucking warms up the car for you i've got heated the real quick the it's it's cooled seats but it doesn't it doesn't blow air up it actually sucks air down out of the seat you um and i'm you know when i read about it to begin with i'm like well that's fucking weird i'm like how's that going to work

01:34:21.11
Mike
Yeah.

01:34:25.43
Mike
Right. Help.

01:34:31.28
Mike
Mm.

01:34:38.49
Mike
Hmm. All right.

01:34:46.31
Bill
when I was driving out from, I think, whatever it was, wherever I was driving the one day, and then again, the temperature warmed up a little bit, and I'm sitting there, and all of a sudden, my butt's cooling a little bit.

01:34:56.77
Bill
I'm like, whoa.

01:34:56.89
Mike
he

01:34:58.24
Bill
I'm like, well, and I get jeans out, and I'm like, that's kind of nice.

01:35:00.45
Mike
Nice.

01:35:01.39
Bill
So I put my hand down on the seat, and you could feel it just kind of like pulling. It felt like an air hockey table, but backwards, you know?

01:35:07.64
Mike
nice

01:35:08.60
Bill
And I'm just like, well, this is lovely.

01:35:11.79
Mike
Can I turn this up a little more and a little more and a little more?

01:35:13.66
Bill
Yeah, and I can. yeah I think I'll take my pants off.

01:35:18.93
Mike
That's right.

01:35:20.29
Bill
All right. You know what? ah On that note, what i think I think we're done. I love you, brother.

01:35:24.07
Mike
I love you too.

01:35:25.88
Bill
We'll talk soon.

01:35:27.01
Mike
We will.

01:35:28.05
Bill
Bye.

01:35:28.93
Mike
bye
