SoberNotMature - Episode 162 (Live From Mike's Deathbed)

This week we have Bill (sort of healthy) and Mike (not healthy at all) for a new week of fun and excitement.
And possibly the shortest episode in a couple of years, but for good reason.
Mike started out with his reading and it was about faith and obedience, living a new life and finally being givers and not always takers. We could both relate to all of it and it was a good conversation.
Then we chatted about anniversaries, birthday parties, being a part of, alcohol "challenges," drinking culture or excuses, dreams, spiritual principles and some rock and roll.
And that was that.
Enjoy the episode.

Bill
Alright everyone, welcome once again to another episode of Sober Not Mature. And you know, honestly, I thought that after a couple of weeks of having guests in the house, you know, the podcast house and stuff like that, I thought, you know, we'd have some pent up energy, a couple of weeks worth, come in here like, you know, on fucking fire.
00:00:16.61
Mike
yeah
00:00:20.18
Mike
Right.
00:00:20.30
Bill
But, hi Mike, how are you doing?
00:00:21.86
Mike
Well, um um but I'm burning up, so yeah, sure, that works.
00:00:22.74
Bill
Yeah.
00:00:27.57
Bill
Once again, I think I said this a handful of, well, whatever it was, probably a handful of months ago. um I'm holding my my left hand up really high. There's the weather up there.
00:00:35.95
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:00:36.14
Bill
Then my right hand is low as I can get it And there's my way under the weather, right? Am I am i right?
00:00:41.67
Mike
You are right.
00:00:43.55
Bill
But you know what? here Here's the cool part. Not going to say this the cool part. You you called off a word today, correct?
00:00:48.40
Mike
I did.
00:00:49.56
Bill
are 160. we are one hundred and six This is times neither one of us have you know here
00:00:55.24
Mike
Right. Yeah.
00:00:58.13
Bill
But to to Mike's point, we were shooting, we were kind of shooting the shit for what, I don't know, like less than a minute or something like that. And, you know, his, ah he said, he we we might not go the whole 90 minutes and blah, blah, blah. I'm like, I don't care.
00:01:08.20
Bill
He said, you buy we might what'd you say? You might start doing what at what any time?
00:01:11.13
Mike
I might start the fuck off at any time, so be prepared.
00:01:15.34
Bill
You know what? Do that. I don't even care. Whatever, whatever we're doing, however long we,
00:01:18.73
Mike
Fuck off. No, not quite yet.
00:01:21.56
Bill
Yeah. Shortest episode ever.
00:01:23.20
Mike
Right.
00:01:23.30
Bill
So, but no, that's cool. Whatever. I mean, you know, people, people will understand if they don't fuck them, you know, cause that's a, that's the way that that's the way that we roll. Right.
00:01:31.79
Mike
Right. Yeah. Well, I heard some point at, uh, yeah, some, see, I get luck with all this. Um, I heard it someplace. Uh, yeah, you know, just half the deal or 90% of the deal or some percentage of the deal is showing up.
00:01:47.66
Mike
So here I am taking or leave it.
00:01:49.69
Bill
Right. Yeah. So um in in the the cool part is, is I also told Mike, I'm like, have you met me? You know, I said, I talk a lot.
00:01:56.52
Mike
Uh huh.
00:01:56.69
Bill
So I think we're okay. All I got to do is grunt and whatever. But, you know, part of this is I do ask you questions, but hey, you know, your answers might be a little shorter. So maybe I'll just have to tell some stories. I have a couple of stories. so
00:02:06.89
Mike
yeah All right.
00:02:07.64
Bill
So I think we got it. We got enough to to round out this episode. So two things real quick. um First of all, with the guests we have for over the last couple of weeks, thank you again to Tom.
00:02:11.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:02:15.91
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:02:16.88
Bill
Obviously we had Tom on ah episode one 60. So that was two episodes ago. Tom Farley, if you guys haven't been paying attention, Go back and listen. Great conversation with him. Yes, we talked about his brother, Chris, but um just a great conversation with with Tom.
00:02:26.65
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:02:31.77
Bill
And then last week we had our good friend Elisan from the Sober Curator. The Sober Curator podcast launched on Wednesday, this past Wednesday, the 26th of March. um Five episodes dropped already right off the bat.
00:02:44.61
Mike
Wow. They know what they're doing.
00:02:46.12
Bill
hey Exactly. Yeah. That's ah again, just, just to recap, we had no idea. We found out what three months into it, you know, that we should have, we should have had that.
00:02:52.92
Mike
Yeah.
00:02:54.49
Bill
And it makes sense because the whole point is it is a, it is a binge society and that's how you grab people is give them more than
00:03:01.03
Mike
Used to be. That's old behavior. I don't binge anymore. Uh-huh.
00:03:04.80
Bill
Okay, so the society, normies, when it comes to TV watching and content, um you know, people people do it.
00:03:09.92
Mike
ahha
00:03:11.50
Bill
You know, we didn't we didn't know well enough in the first couple of episodes. I mean, mine mine was short, and then we did the behind-the-scenes and then your episode. I mean, it wasn't really, i don't know, whatever it is. it It happened, and it is what it is.
00:03:21.76
Bill
but um So the the one question I have for you right off the bat, though, so we know that we had the least number of fucks with Tom a couple of weeks ago with 12, and and Last week we did have a guest, and usually it's down a little bit, but it was our friend Elise.
00:03:36.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:03:36.93
Bill
I don't i don't remember if she actually swore it all, but, I mean, we're comfortable around her. So where do you think we we came in with that? Just throw out a guess. it wasn't We didn't hit a record or anything like that, but it wasn't and it wasn't embarrassingly low either.
00:03:48.15
Mike
and I'm sure we didn't.
00:03:51.21
Mike
yeah Oh, let's shoot for that century mark. Nah, probably not that high. Well, let's go 65.
00:03:58.69
Bill
ah Stop.
00:03:59.91
Mike
Go ahead.
00:04:00.54
Bill
Stop. First thought, right.
00:04:01.45
Mike
ye Yeah. Oh, really? that Hey, write that down somewhere.
00:04:06.34
Bill
One Oh two.
00:04:07.72
Mike
oh nice.
00:04:09.22
Bill
was going to say before you went any further, it's okay. I know we usually say first thought wrong, but yeah, it was, it was 102.
00:04:13.35
Mike
Right.
00:04:14.68
Bill
And I was actually kind of, kind of surprised about that. So, um,
00:04:18.69
Mike
Surprised and proud.
00:04:20.19
Bill
Well, you know, and the thing of it is, though, I mean, seriously, it's a, as opposed to whatever it was a couple of years ago when we had her on or almost two years ago, you know, we didn't know her.
00:04:27.83
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:04:28.45
Bill
I mean, now we do. And obviously we're comfortable.
00:04:29.73
Mike
Sure.
00:04:30.64
Bill
She's a friend, you know, so it was, I think a different story. And then one last thing, and I'll get into something else I'd like to talk about, but um I'll say our friend Morgan, because she is a friend of the podcast, but my friend Morgan, who I visited in Oklahoma city a couple of times, um her six year anniversary was on Wednesday.
00:04:41.71
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:04:44.48
Mike
Right.
00:04:48.17
Mike
Ah, congratulations.
00:04:48.18
Bill
So. Yeah.
00:04:49.89
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:04:50.16
Bill
And she's not on, she took down her sober profile, gosh, probably three, four months ago for many reasons. I know some of them, but it's her, her story to tell, not mine.
00:04:58.91
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right?
00:05:00.66
Bill
um You know, but, and then, you know, she, she's still on there, but you know, on a personal level and, you know, obviously posts about family and her kids and all that sort of stuff. But you know, I had a, I had a reminder set about her anniversary completely, of course, forgot until it popped up in the wording.
00:05:08.64
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:05:14.54
Bill
I'm like, I'm like, Hey there. But yeah, so six years, six years for, for our friend Morgan, but, uh, I've got a couple of things. I just want to, I don't want to talk about anniversaries cause I was listening to a podcast about it.
00:05:25.87
Bill
Plus we got a couple of anniversaries coming up shortly.
00:05:26.61
Mike
he
00:05:28.50
Bill
So, um, yeah, I know.
00:05:28.71
Mike
Yeah, you eventually, I'm not dead.
00:05:35.12
Mike
as I sit here waiting for the sweet
00:05:40.15
Bill
It's just kind of funny. If I'm not dead. Okay, Cameron. I'll start calling you Cameron from yeah from ah Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
00:05:47.32
Mike
Right. Right.
00:05:47.98
Bill
You're not dying, Cameron. You're just bored. You don't know what to do.
00:05:51.96
Mike
Right.
00:05:53.51
Bill
All right. So do you feel up for reading? If not, I can grab i can grab my my phone. I'll just read some shit. I don't care. It's up to you.
00:05:58.93
Mike
You know what? Yeah, i got
00:06:01.29
Bill
Okay. Because I was going to offer, I was just going to grab for you to pick out the thing, I could find it, and I'd more happy to to pinch hit for you. Speaking of that, hang on one second.
00:06:12.33
Mike
Yep. Yep. I laid on the couch yesterday and watched two games.
00:06:14.89
Bill
It's your...
00:06:18.82
Bill
Yeah, and i yeah they talked about it on the radio, of course. I hear that on the morning show, and then I saw you post about it.
00:06:22.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:06:23.95
Bill
Herman Munster swinging a baseball bat. I thought that was...
00:06:25.73
Mike
Nah, no, no. That was Boris Karloff.
00:06:28.66
Bill
Oh, was it?
00:06:29.38
Mike
Yeah, that was the actual monster.
00:06:30.57
Bill
Oh, geez. Okay. You know what?
00:06:33.83
Mike
Yep.
00:06:33.83
Bill
in the I just, I scrolled through it so quick and I saw it and I just did Herman Munster popped into my head and I thought it was funny, but anyhow, so I'm sorry, Boris Korloff.
00:06:43.63
Mike
Right.
00:06:44.63
Bill
Wait, I, you know what? I've had a little bit of a cold. Let's talk about that. You want to talk about that for a second?
00:06:48.22
Mike
I'm the impaired one. What? Go ahead.
00:06:50.12
Bill
yeah So I have had, um well, you know, my January, February, the whole altitude shit all fucked with my sinuses and everything.
00:06:57.48
Mike
Right.
00:06:57.64
Bill
And kind of coming out of that, I think I've had a mild cold now. And I'm not shitting you for probably ah month into the point where, I mean, I'm i'm stuffed up every morning, um a little run down, a little tired, that sort of thing.
00:07:07.88
Bill
I was literally thinking about tomorrow doing like an online thing.
00:07:08.51
Mike
Mm.
00:07:12.07
Bill
It might be the 45, worth the 45 bucks just to say, okay, this is what's going on. Is there anything that I should do differently type of thing, you know?
00:07:17.18
Mike
Mm.
00:07:19.20
Bill
Um, I'm taking cold medicine.
00:07:19.30
Mike
Mm.
00:07:20.29
Bill
I got the nasal spray, the different things, whatever. It's just, it's, it's not going away, you know?
00:07:24.86
Mike
Right.
00:07:25.44
Bill
So, um, I, I don't feel, i don't feel terrible, but I don't, I don't know. Maybe this, maybe this is just a new level of how I feel from now on.
00:07:32.25
Mike
yeah Welcome to it, man.
00:07:32.44
Bill
I, yeah. Yeah, it is. It's one of those things where I'm like, at at certain points, literally, I'm like, is, is, are my shoulders always going to hurt now? Are my knees, I know my knees are always going to hurt.
00:07:43.64
Bill
Am I always going to feel, you know, like an old fucking Buick when I get up in the morning?
00:07:43.76
Mike
huh Yeah.
00:07:46.69
Bill
I mean, all these, all these are normal or am I, am I actually have a cold? I don't know. But anyhow, so if you're, if you're ready, I'm ready.
00:07:51.32
Mike
Right.
00:07:53.98
Mike
Right. um Yeah, sure. Why not? Let's see if I can do this. um And ah I can't guarantee anything. This is actually from the 24-hour book. Ooh, because I read it this morning, and I thought it was pretty good.
00:08:05.19
Bill
Ooh.
00:08:08.75
Mike
Of course, I could have been delirious, and I haven't read it since, so it might be garbage. But I do know one thing. The G word is only mentioned once in this entire reading.
00:08:19.26
Bill
Really?
00:08:19.41
Mike
I thought that was, yeah, I know. I thought that was kind of notable. So I was all, well, what the hell, man? Like I said, I think it's good. um And yeah.
00:08:26.62
Bill
the the g word
00:08:31.01
Mike
All right. So yes, from the 24 hours a day book, ah March 28th, AA thought for the day. When you come into an AA meeting, you're not just coming into a meeting.
00:08:44.61
Mike
You're coming into a new life. I'm always impressed by the change I see in people after they've been in AA for a while. I sometimes take an inventory of myself to see whether I have changed, and if so, in what way.
00:08:59.54
Mike
Before I met AA, I was very selfish. I wanted my own way in everything. I don't believe I ever grew up. When things went wrong, I sulked like a spoiled child and often went out and got drunk.
00:09:14.41
Mike
Am I still all get and no give? Meditation for the day. There are two things that we must have if we are going to change our way of life.
00:09:26.26
Mike
One is faith, the confidence in things unseen, the fundamental goodness and purpose of the universe. The other is obedience, that is, living according to our faith, living each day as is we believe that God wants us to live, with gratitude, humility, honesty, purity, unselfishness, and love.
00:09:50.93
Mike
Faith and obedience, these two will give us the strength we need to overcome sin and temptation and to live a new and more abundant life. Prayer for the day.
00:10:03.12
Mike
i pray that i have i may have more faith and obedience. I pray that I may live a more abundant life as a result of those things.
00:10:14.22
Bill
So do you think, and and we've talked about, um first of all, when I read that this morning, i get it's funny because I didn't notice, um I didn't notice that there was only one word in there.
00:10:25.01
Mike
All right.
00:10:26.53
Bill
um But that that is kind of funny because, yeah, I know, well, maybe it's just because I noticed when all the other ones are in there. But anyhow, um we talked about, Faith a lot. and And when I read that, obviously the faith and obedience it didn't really stick out to me like it did now when you read it.
00:10:42.62
Bill
um So, again, we talked about faith, but I mean, do you do you feel that way? Faith and obedience? I mean, is that is that a correct word or do you feel that that's a correct word for that?
00:10:52.02
Mike
No, actually, I kind of do. um You know, I mean, our our routines and, you know, the things that we have to do every day are definitely a form of obedience, you know, um making our bed every day.
00:11:03.55
Bill
Right.
00:11:05.44
Mike
i mean, that's, you know, it's it's, yeah, it is kind of a form of obedience, which is kind of why I liked it this morning. Although my bed's only half-assed made because I've been in and out of it all day.
00:11:17.11
Mike
of But you know what? I get up out of it and I kind of smooth the cover down. and yeah hello Because I'm obedient that way.
00:11:29.66
Bill
Yeah, but that was just kind of funny because when, um I don't know what, maybe it's the, one don't even know, maybe, not maybe, but um it's the egotist in me that doesn't want to be, um I don't like, i don't necessarily, I'm not a fan of the word obedience in normal cases and I didn't pay attention to it.
00:11:45.57
Mike
Right.
00:11:46.03
Bill
So again, One God word didn't offend me or do I didn't notice it in the word obedience didn't offend me because it it is.
00:11:51.63
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:11:53.80
Bill
I mean, what you said is 100 percent correct. But when you read it, it's like hearing it versus reading it, you know, different story, which is one of the reasons I really appreciate um a couple of years ago, whatever it was that you brought it up to do these readings every week.
00:11:58.91
Mike
Mm-hmm. Sure.
00:12:05.28
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:12:07.00
Bill
um It's a it's a great way, I think, to start the podcast. and I think other people enjoy them. um You know, link we've heard from a couple. But I do.
00:12:14.90
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:15.24
Bill
I like hearing back what I've read and I always hear something different. And that was the thing.
00:12:18.85
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:19.00
Bill
So but you're right. I mean, whether we call it what you will, but ah obedience is the right way to put it.
00:12:22.84
Mike
Right.
00:12:24.28
Bill
Yes, we're we're being obedient individuals, but it's not. I don't consider like i don't feel like I'm being ordered around. And that's usually what I what what you seem or what the word obedience feels like is that this this finger pointing.
00:12:32.33
Mike
Right.
00:12:36.86
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:12:37.84
Bill
be be be Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:12:39.21
Mike
Rolled up newspaper.
00:12:39.29
Bill
Yeah.
00:12:42.22
Bill
Right. And I was just thinking about it. like, we got some fingers pointed at us, but I i don't think I don't think I ever got hit with a rolled up newspaper by anyone in the program.
00:12:50.81
Mike
No,
00:12:51.47
Bill
i may I may have never been hit by anyone with a rolled up newspaper come to think of it. Maybe. Who knows?
00:12:55.97
Mike
no, I'm sure I have, but, uh, right.
00:12:57.62
Bill
Yeah, well. Yeah,
00:13:01.65
Mike
You know, there's been a few I've wanted to hit with a rolled up newspaper, but yeah.
00:13:05.06
Bill
yeah. yeah
00:13:06.85
Mike
Um, Yeah, but I mean, you know, yeah, I, you know, the obedience part, I mean, we are, we were're we're following this program, we're following um orders, I mean, you know, suggestions, because, you know, Bob and Bill knew not to fucking tell us that they were orders or we wouldn't do them.
00:13:20.05
Bill
Right?
00:13:25.48
Bill
Right?
00:13:25.56
Mike
Um, so yeah, but we are, we're being obedient to the program. You know, again, I back to the first step shit, you know, I don't, uh, I don't manage my own life, man. I I'm obedient to the shit that these people told me to do to stay away from that first one.
00:13:43.58
Mike
And, uh, man, it's not, not the worst thing in the world.
00:13:46.88
Bill
Right?
00:13:47.60
Mike
I don't have to feel like this every day, just occasionally.
00:13:47.57
Bill
Well, even...
00:13:51.88
Bill
Well, you know, that that's a good that's a good point because it is funny because any time that I've had, and I remember the, you know, kind of stepping back into the, you know, like our first 30 days and stuff like that, every one of us got sick.
00:14:02.52
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:14:03.46
Bill
I know you did, I did, you know, the fucking Keating crud or whatever the hell it was.
00:14:04.78
Mike
Right. Yup.
00:14:08.26
Bill
And, you know, when you're when you're just coming out of, you know, years of, of drinking and hangovers and probably, you know, everyone else drugs and hangovers and coming down and withdrawals and all this different shit.
00:14:16.59
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:14:19.31
Bill
And then, you know, you start to feel good even for a couple of weeks and then you get sick.
00:14:23.13
Mike
Yup.
00:14:23.10
Bill
It's like, Oh fuck man, you know, or have, you know, your first sleepless night or something like that.
00:14:24.63
Mike
Yes.
00:14:28.11
Bill
You're like, this is fucking terrible, you know?
00:14:29.73
Mike
yes
00:14:30.55
Bill
And I mean, we dealt with it every goddamn day. So yeah, that's a, that's a good point. But um yeah, you know, the, and I just thought about, Hey, what an order, you know, I can't go through with it. You know, I,
00:14:39.70
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:14:40.18
Bill
um You know, and it is, even though they didn't, you know, all these steps are, you know, suggestions. I mean, that's right there and how it works. You know, it's, I exclaimed, what an order, you know, but it is.
00:14:47.07
Mike
Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. It is.
00:14:49.86
Bill
um And yeah, it's, it's funny, but here I guess we've talked about it. I was going to say, here's the deal, but yeah. But we've talked about this before is that there's nothing else, um no other circumstance, no other individual, no other ah thing in my life or activity or anything like that that I've ever been involved in that I've that I've taken this type of direction from ever.
00:15:13.06
Mike
Hmm.
00:15:13.13
Bill
And, you know, gladly, knowingly, without complaining about it, without questioning it, um you know, from the group in general, from individuals, um unless unless you meet, you know, we've met them.
00:15:13.58
Mike
Right.
00:15:24.40
Mike
Yeah.
00:15:24.56
Bill
We know some of them that are you know off their fucking rockers that are sober, you know but you know not people that we really want to follow or be told what to do.
00:15:28.06
Mike
Right. Right.
00:15:32.48
Bill
But 95% of the people, 90% of the people, um you know if they if they ask us, tell us, or suggest that we do something, it it is.
00:15:33.29
Mike
Mm hmm.
00:15:36.78
Mike
Yes.
00:15:42.08
Bill
It's for our own fucking good and we should do it.
00:15:43.89
Mike
Right? Right. And that would be the faith part of it.
00:15:47.51
Bill
Yeah, exactly.
00:15:48.22
Mike
Yeah, I have faith that these fuckers aren't trying to hurt me and aren't lying to me and, you know, or, yeah, trying to make me a better person for the next guy down the road.
00:15:57.31
Bill
Right. Well, in the first couple of things I wrote down where, you know, um so there's something about getting into a new life and um have I changed? And of course, yes. And yes, obviously, this is a new life. And I know I've changed.
00:16:09.09
Mike
Right.
00:16:09.26
Bill
um And i get have I'll talk about last weekend, too, with my my grandson's birthday and my exes were there and all that stuff. But couple of a couple of key things that were kind of fun, um ah fun, but also, i don't know, nice things that were said.
00:16:15.81
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:16:22.43
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:16:23.21
Bill
But the the the never grew up part um and sulking like a child. I mean, you know, we joke about, you know, obviously, what's the name of this podcast, as you always say? um You know, but I mean, we have. We've grown up, you know.
00:16:33.46
Mike
Oh, sure.
00:16:34.62
Bill
um
00:16:34.68
Mike
Absolutely.
00:16:35.84
Bill
And but I mean, yeah, at the time, and and I used to do that all the time, you know, something, ah something, anything didn't go my way.
00:16:40.85
Mike
Anything. Yelp. ye
00:16:43.30
Bill
Again, I keep I keep catching myself. I'm like, what the fuck, man?
00:16:46.09
Mike
All right, well, that's growth.
00:16:46.75
Bill
um Yeah, that is i I grew up enough to be like, oh, sometimes. No, all the fucking time.
00:16:51.95
Mike
No, all the time. Mm-hmm.
00:16:53.55
Bill
Yeah, when when shit didn't go my way, you know, I did. I, you know, threw a fit, salt, and I wasn't even sulking as much, maybe, but, you know, throwing a fit and making everyone else's life fucking miserable, you know?
00:16:57.67
Mike
Yep.
00:17:01.59
Mike
Yeah, yeah. ah Throwing yourself on the ground and kicking your feet and screaming. Yeah, right. Like a goddamn two-year-old.
00:17:09.79
Bill
Right. Right. And I, I'll be the first one to admit that I don't like it to this day when things don't, you know, again, I'll say, go my way, quote unquote, but um I don't think anyone does necessarily.
00:17:16.64
Mike
Mm. Mm-hmm.
00:17:20.30
Bill
We don't as, as alcoholics and addicts, but um I think going back to the grown up part, I think I've grown up enough to realize that, well, it is what it is, you know, and.
00:17:21.50
Mike
Of course not.
00:17:29.98
Mike
Right. Well, as you've said plenty of times, why not me?
00:17:33.72
Bill
right Yeah, and you know I'll tell you that, so it was funny. I think it was, was it yesterday or maybe it was yesterday? I think it was. It was yesterday. um I had, don't know, it was break time or whatever came, went down and I was going downstairs to get a cup of coffee and I'm, you know, coming down the stairs. I'm like, God, I'm in a fucking good mood. I'm like, why in a good mood? Yeah.
00:17:54.28
Mike
Yeah. Right.
00:17:55.57
Bill
and And I'll tell you there, I'm not going to get into details because I guess part of it is nobody's fucking business. I mean, not that it wouldn't be your business, but um you know, it's, I'm not going to spit it out into an open microphone, but um it's been, it's been a weird few weeks and it's been, you know, financial shit that, you know, things are getting better at work.
00:18:02.33
Mike
yeah
00:18:11.56
Bill
I mean, I'm i'm making more money this month than I have, but I get some shit weighing down to me. It's still, it's back to the car and it's the insurance and it's, it's these different things.
00:18:17.91
Mike
right
00:18:19.32
Bill
And, you know, now I got to sit back and figure out if I can, if I can, um, you know, take a trip in May, um, which is not that expensive, but you know i'm like, God, should I do it?
00:18:26.58
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:18:29.56
Bill
And I think, I think I can afford it. I'm putting everything down on paper, but you know, it's just, I get, I'm frustrated with that because I'm like, well, fuck, you know, but, but I get it.
00:18:32.96
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:18:38.85
Bill
I, I, I'm, I'm accepting of it, all sorts of things, but, um, I don't know. It was just, it's been weird stuff, but then that's literally a why, cause I was in, in this up and down this mood swing moods, my, my mood swings, you know, for the last year.
00:18:52.66
Bill
couple weeks, I'm like really fucking happy. And I'm like, fuck the world. And then I'm happy. And I'm like, oh, fuck you.
00:18:56.31
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:18:57.20
Bill
Fuck you. And fuck me type of thing.
00:18:58.06
Mike
Yes. Sure.
00:18:59.07
Bill
You know? I mean, not really, not really fuck the world, but you know what I mean?
00:19:00.16
Mike
Right.
00:19:02.64
Bill
um But yeah, I'm just like, why am in a good mood right now? And I'm like, it why am I questioning myself?
00:19:07.36
Mike
Yeah, being a taker. Help.
00:19:08.77
Bill
yeah Why not me? I can be in a good mood. So fuck all of you.
00:19:11.52
Mike
sure
00:19:11.97
Bill
Right. um But get no give. That was another thing. um You know, when we've talked about that, you know, always, always looking for something, um you know, what can we get out of it?
00:19:20.78
Mike
who
00:19:22.36
Bill
You know?
00:19:22.80
Mike
right yeah being a taker
00:19:22.80
Bill
Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:25.32
Mike
help
00:19:26.05
Bill
Exactly. And then the other thing that I did, I remembered specifically about the well, not not the God stuff, but that I remembered about the reading was um the absolutes were were packed in there with a couple of other words.
00:19:32.46
Mike
Right.
00:19:36.79
Bill
But, um you know, and again, it's it's honesty and selfishness, purity and love.
00:19:37.62
Mike
Right.
00:19:41.35
Bill
You know, those those things that we've talked about, you know, so many times.
00:19:41.81
Mike
Right.
00:19:45.18
Bill
But um I don't. I wish I thought about the absolutes. I think I probably do deep down. They're probably, they've got to be ingrained in my, in my brain and in my, in my soul.
00:19:51.87
Mike
h
00:19:56.53
Mike
by
00:19:57.84
Bill
um But I just don't, I don't think about them openly that much. So it was, it was nice, you know, to obviously to see that there, you know?
00:20:05.38
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. Anytime we can be reminded of those four absolutes is a good thing. Yeah,
00:20:10.50
Bill
Right. And, you know, just to remind everyone, too, out there, if you're if you're one of the the new ish or newer listeners, if you haven't heard of the absolutes, just look up, you know, recovery, a absolutes and went back to the Oxford group, though, right?
00:20:24.24
Mike
yeah.
00:20:24.57
Bill
The absolutes.
00:20:25.47
Mike
yeah
00:20:25.70
Bill
um And if you look back at our episode, i don't remember the episode number, but it's it's was the absolute bottle. Yeah.
00:20:33.24
Mike
Right, at the vodka bottle is the thumbnail.
00:20:35.14
Bill
Yeah, the absolute. So we did that. We had, we had an episode where we talked about them and you know, the importance of of what they were.
00:20:41.20
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:20:42.95
Bill
And it's one of the old episodes, the fucked up audio and whatever. But the whole point is that if you honesty and selfishness, purity and love, if you're going to make any decision in life, um we were taught this early on, run those through the absolutes, you know, is it honest?
00:20:45.97
Mike
Yeah.
00:20:52.58
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:20:55.58
Mike
Yep.
00:20:55.74
Bill
Is it unselfish? Is it pure? You know, is it loving? And it doesn't have to be a romantic love.
00:20:59.34
Mike
Yep.
00:21:00.40
Bill
Are you doing something in,
00:21:00.88
Mike
No, of course not.
00:21:02.13
Bill
you know, in a love, not hate way.
00:21:04.26
Mike
Yep.
00:21:04.24
Bill
Um, and if you can run, uh, you know, a thing through there, it doesn't hurt to get another opinion, but you're usually probably okay. If you're, you know, if you get it through there, you know, and if you, I, you said it before and I was going I was going to leave you be, cause I know you're not, you're not thinking about that.
00:21:11.46
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. yeah
00:21:19.96
Bill
You said that twice already when you were talking about it, but and it's, so it's okay.
00:21:21.28
Mike
I'm sure I did.
00:21:23.48
Bill
I wasn't goingnna poke at that because I'm, I'm trying to be nice to you. This is going to be one of the everyone write that down.
00:21:28.15
Mike
Wow.
00:21:28.60
Bill
I'm,
00:21:28.78
Mike
Yeah. Wow. Put a big star next to this episode.
00:21:30.28
Bill
yeah
00:21:32.84
Bill
Yeah, wait a second. There's a couple of things I got to cross off that I was going to ask you to piss you off.
00:21:36.44
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:21:36.96
Bill
No, I'm just kidding. I did think about that the other day. There was something that I can't even remember what the fuck it was, but I'm like, God, I think probably an article that I read. i'm like, ah I'm not going to get that one. That'll piss Mike off.
00:21:47.44
Bill
it it And it's just what it's one of those things that every once in a while, and i sometimes I do it, you know, thinking this is probably going to get a reaction that I really want because I think it'll be funny.
00:21:47.57
Mike
yeah
00:21:56.67
Bill
um But but the the funniest ones are when you get you get mad about something or you get bothered by something that I didn't do on purpose. I didn't provide that s thing to try to to try to you know kind of get you riled up and you do it.
00:22:06.19
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:22:09.04
Bill
That makes me laugh my ass off every time.
00:22:11.19
Mike
Well, I'm glad to help.
00:22:12.75
Bill
ah So um what else? What else on the reading? I mean, in general, a faith and obedience. And that's why I really wanted to get the opinion on the obedience part. And I mean, what you said makes sense. But um anything else on there that like stuck out to you other than other that?
00:22:27.11
Mike
Nope. Now it's time to fuck off. Oh, wait. No, not yet. Not yet.
00:22:32.78
Bill
All right. Well, cool. Well, you know what? I like that. It's a rare, a rare reading on these sober, not mature podcasts from the 24 hour book. Every once in a while we get those and I'll post them every once in a while too, because you know, I, I usually don't when they're like this morning, I like the reading, but was more AA based.
00:22:40.37
Mike
ah whoof
00:22:43.05
Mike
Sure.
00:22:49.01
Bill
And I try to, again, obviously we are AA based, but I try not to put that on Instagram because again, i know we've got people that are not.
00:22:56.40
Mike
Right.
00:22:56.39
Bill
Um, and I want people to get something out of a reading, not look away like, ah, they see fucking AA and they, they take away, you know, walk away from the message, which is, you know, it's on somebody else, but you know, Hey, I know, I know that's, that's just, um, that's me trying to provide, you know, decent, just good, decent content to, to our listeners and our readers, hopefully.
00:23:01.50
Mike
Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Keep your fucking mind open, assholes. I know. Right. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:23:13.83
Mike
i know
00:23:16.63
Mike
ah
00:23:17.35
Bill
But you know, I, I've, I've grown up. Um, I'm not all get in no give,
00:23:24.93
Mike
right
00:23:26.46
Bill
I'm living by the absolutes. I'm being honest and selfish, I think.
00:23:31.40
Mike
yeah
00:23:31.73
Bill
um But OK, so we talked about obviously the Fox. We talked about the anniversary thing. OK, so the the quick thing on the anniversary part, um it I was listening to um ah podcast and I.
00:23:44.82
Bill
I'm not going to mention it doesn't matter who it was, but they they had brought up about one of the individuals had just celebrated an anniversary.
00:23:46.45
Mike
Right.
00:23:52.30
Bill
It was a it was a decent one, you know, decent amount of time, you know, and not that one, two, three years is it. But again, multiple, multiple years of sobriety.
00:23:58.15
Mike
Sure. Yeah.
00:24:00.57
Bill
And the individual um forgot about the anniversary until the person got a text from the other the other host that morning. And when I heard that, I'm like, I'm like, Really?
00:24:12.08
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:24:12.41
Bill
Okay.
00:24:12.64
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:24:12.69
Bill
Now, once again, nothing wrong with it. Cause the way they approached this was both of them are like this. Um, one's got 10, the other one's got 14 or 15, right along those lines.
00:24:20.94
Mike
Mm-hmm. What?
00:24:22.44
Bill
And in their mindset is, is they, you know, kind of how we feel of all these things are, it's, it's part of our day to day. We do these things. We don't necessarily have to sit down and, and, and really, don't know, do, we don't have to think about what we do. A lot of this stuff is ingrained in part of and all that stuff.
00:24:38.60
Mike
Sure.
00:24:38.81
Bill
um You know, whereas it's sometimes they just don't even think about the anniversaries. They like celebrating others, but not necessarily theirs.
00:24:43.19
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:24:44.51
Bill
If somebody congratulates them, that's fine. They don't want a big deal out of it.
00:24:46.63
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:24:47.60
Bill
They don't like, you know, a special coin. And I'm like, I like all of this. like all of that.
00:24:51.05
Mike
Right. Right.
00:24:53.26
Bill
Which, again, to their point, they're like, if anyone out there ah goes the other direction, more power to you. We just don't. And and I'm of the same opinion. I have nothing against them for, for not recognizing or forgetting.
00:25:05.63
Bill
I just don't understand it. You know?
00:25:07.15
Mike
right
00:25:07.45
Bill
um and And I don't mean that in a bad way. It just, it it is beyond my, my, well, I look at my surprise. I don't know. I could never, i Right.
00:25:14.42
Mike
yeah there Yeah, it's a fucking sobriety date, man. It's kind of a kind of a big deal. Yeah, it's the, you know, right.
00:25:20.27
Bill
Right.
00:25:21.92
Mike
It's the first fucking sober day we had. And it's kind of, yeah, means something to me. I know that.
00:25:28.04
Bill
Right.
00:25:28.95
Mike
Yeah.
00:25:29.11
Bill
Yeah. And.
00:25:29.90
Mike
Yeah. I forgot about it. Really? i mean, I, I probably in part, it means as, as much to us as it does because it was ingrained into us early on. You know, don't fucking forget your sobriety date. You you have to get a new one.
00:25:45.36
Bill
Right.
00:25:45.92
Mike
And, um, I, I make sense to me, you know? Yeah. I got to remember my sobriety and more importantly, I've got to remember the day before. You know, yeah. So, I mean, you know, if I remember the day before, I'm probably going to remember that day too.
00:26:01.59
Bill
Right. Yeah. And, and that's the thing in the, in, and I thought about the same thing that, uh, in people telling us that very early on, you know, you, you better remember your date because if you don't, you're bound to repeat it, you know, ah repeat your, or get a new one. Yeah. Like you said, repeat it, get a new one, whatever the case is.
00:26:18.35
Bill
Um, and that scared the shit out of me, you know?
00:26:19.90
Mike
Yeah, it still does.
00:26:20.55
Bill
And I'm like, I'm like, well, I don't, yeah.
00:26:21.90
Mike
Yeah.
00:26:22.29
Bill
I mean, exactly ah that's a, that's a good point. Yeah. still does.
00:26:25.82
Mike
Yeah, it's still done.
00:26:26.79
Bill
Um,
00:26:26.98
Mike
i hope I hope it always will.
00:26:28.88
Bill
Right. But, but I don't know. And we've talked about that kind of jokingly, but it is, I mean, there is um yes, I'll post things from, you know, screenshots of my sobriety counter on a, I don't want to even say on a semi-regular basis on occasion when I get even numbers or things like this or double numbers, whatever the case is, or, you know, 130,000, whatever it is, when when the number catches my eye, I'm like, well that looks kind of fucking cool.
00:26:39.23
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:26:42.70
Mike
Sure.
00:26:45.14
Mike
Right.
00:26:53.16
Bill
And, you know, I'll post it. Now, I don't post it with the mindset of look at me, but I know people are going to look at me. So I'm not stupid, you know, and I know people I'm not looking for a pat on the back, but I know people are going to do that and I'm fine with it.
00:27:00.83
Mike
Right.
00:27:06.30
Bill
You know, um I don't get mad if they would or would not.
00:27:06.63
Mike
h
00:27:09.76
Mike
Right.
00:27:09.81
Bill
um It's just something that it's a. Again, it's a big deal for me. And I do.
00:27:14.48
Mike
Yeah.
00:27:14.81
Bill
um I look at my sobriety counter. That's I do. I do the 24 hour book. I do um keep it simple. I do a set of prayers. I do God grant me that I look at my sobriety counter and then I do touchstones.
00:27:26.42
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:27:28.27
Bill
So, I mean, that's my that's my morning.
00:27:28.72
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:29.79
Bill
And I do that every single morning. And, you know, the the touchstones used to be a day at a time and it used to be some other fucking thing. But it's the second to last thing I do before I i do that last reading.
00:27:41.46
Bill
And then I do a you know quick a quick thing at the at the end, ah which is basically the seven step prayer.
00:27:43.32
Mike
Yeah.
00:27:48.48
Bill
You know, so, but it's, um, I look at it every single day.
00:27:48.57
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:27:51.35
Bill
I don't know when I started doing that. Um, but it's a, it's a motivator and it's a reminder for me, you know, um, motivator that, Hey, you know, I, I, this is, this is cool, but also reminder that all this shit can go away.
00:27:53.41
Mike
Mm.
00:27:56.71
Mike
Eh.
00:28:03.65
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:03.86
Bill
um you know, with, with one, with one fucking wild hair up my ass, you know, and I don't want to do that today, you know?
00:28:07.89
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:11.18
Mike
Yeah, right. Exactly. Without that obedience.
00:28:15.00
Bill
Good point. Yeah. See, look at that. Wrap, wrap, wrap back around.
00:28:18.14
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:19.49
Bill
I could, I can say it. I could speak. um But yeah, it's just, it is. It's one of those things that I just, um ah I don't know. It's, I don't understand it, but I'm not faulting them for not, you know, for not remembering.
00:28:30.26
Mike
Yeah.
00:28:30.39
Bill
um But it just, it it's, it's completely foreign to me. It, it doesn't make any sense to, to not, to forget your, your anniversary.
00:28:34.61
Mike
yeah
00:28:38.94
Mike
Exactly.
00:28:39.07
Bill
I just don't, I don't get it.
00:28:39.93
Mike
Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's my, so I mean, you know, I start off every lead with, you know, I've got some things that are important to me and one of them is my sobriety date because it is.
00:28:49.46
Bill
Right. Yeah, exactly. You know, it's funny when I just, I thought about it a couple of weeks ago. um Well, actually, well, it would have been a couple of weeks ago now. um It was two years for me, two years ago that I quit smoking on the 14th, which I never thought I'd forget that because that's the day my dad died, you know, and I knew the day my dad died, but it didn't click.
00:29:05.19
Mike
Yeah.
00:29:08.77
Mike
Right?
00:29:12.11
Bill
And I was coming in from outside where I think it was when I was still in Wisconsin. I'm like, oh shit. I'm like, what the fuck day is it?
00:29:17.82
Mike
Yeah.
00:29:17.80
Bill
And I'm looking, I'm like, I'm like, oh yeah, okay. Yeah. So I forgot that one, but I mean, that's not as, that's not as, ah it's important to me, um but not as important to me.
00:29:25.94
Mike
Sure.
00:29:27.78
Bill
And I, maybe, maybe, maybe that's the key there.
00:29:28.42
Mike
Yeah.
00:29:29.98
Bill
I don't know.
00:29:30.90
Mike
but Yeah. Makes sense to me.
00:29:34.53
Bill
But yeah, I still vape. It's not like, I'm like, I'm completely clean of, yeah, I'm not going to, know, not completely clean and nicotine or anything like that.
00:29:36.64
Mike
Right. Nicotine free.
00:29:42.57
Bill
So, um all right. So nothing, nothing more on anniversaries. Oh, there's, i I have another anniversary coming up.
00:29:49.58
Mike
Do you?
00:29:50.40
Bill
one year of, I have a hobo, a hobo anniversary.
00:29:53.41
Mike
Ah, sure.
00:29:53.69
Bill
oh Hobo, hoboversary?
00:29:57.99
Bill
Yeah, and it'll actually be next weekend. So I was thinking about that. I'm like, when did I actually start? Because I did a couple of, I don't know, test trips, trial trips, whatever you want to call it. You know i went down to South Carolina and I went, I was in Fond du Lac at this time last year for Ali's birthday.
00:30:13.38
Mike
Right?
00:30:13.45
Bill
That was the first week that I worked when I was out of town. So that was my last like real test trip in March. And then um April 6th is when I went down to the Ozarks, then up by you and then Tennessee, Texas and did that whole thing.
00:30:25.03
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:30:27.34
Bill
And I was thinking about it. That was the mindset. I'm like, okay, I'm walking out the door and I'm never fucking coming back. And then two months later, I was like, I'm like, yeah, wo I gotta
00:30:33.19
Mike
Jeez.
00:30:36.97
Bill
I gotta go hang out for a month, man. I i just spent a little bit, spent little bit of money.
00:30:38.57
Mike
Right.
00:30:40.57
Bill
But you know, that was the whole thing. You know, it's just a, the first thing. first couple of months out of the gate when I, when I started this job, you know, you start making a little bit of money and it's evened out. I make it around the same, but I haven't made the strides that I had hoped for.
00:30:49.99
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:30:52.65
Bill
I still, if if I get, whenever I get kicked up to that next level, it'll help, but that's a whole nother story. But, um, But yeah, so I got to and got to take a little break every once in a while. But I i went through um in the last year, I've been 20 different places.
00:31:11.34
Bill
So 20 individual Airbnbs.
00:31:13.75
Mike
Right.
00:31:13.88
Bill
And it comes down to 31 weeks if I ended up right.
00:31:18.03
Mike
Nice.
00:31:18.09
Bill
Um, because I mean, like Texas was three, um, up in Northern Wisconsin was three, two Phoenix, couple here, you know, that sort of thing.
00:31:21.35
Mike
Right.
00:31:26.47
Bill
You know, um, I was at three and, uh, North Carolina place I'm going next weekend, you know, so figuring it back and forth.
00:31:26.81
Mike
Right.
00:31:32.24
Bill
And then with, I was at your place, what our anniversary week and then end of September, October, right?
00:31:39.74
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:31:41.25
Bill
I think those are the two, the two weeks I was trying to think about that. Cause i mean, those are considered travel weeks, I guess.
00:31:46.50
Mike
Yeah.
00:31:47.44
Bill
Technically, you know, but so, yeah, I mean like 30 in, in a year's time, 33 out of 52 weeks, I, I traveled, you know, which is, yeah.
00:31:48.16
Mike
Sure.
00:31:53.68
Mike
Yeah. Nice.
00:31:56.20
Bill
And um I mean, when, when I really look back on it, cause I mean, the the Phoenix trip kind of, i don't want to say it crippled me, but it, it put a little, it put a little, a little limp in my step, you know, but um no, no,
00:32:05.71
Mike
Hobbled you just a little bit.
00:32:06.91
Bill
It just it hobbled me just a little bit about who God got to catch my balance on that and that motherfucker.
00:32:11.29
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:32:12.14
Bill
um No regrets. I mean, it was a great trip and it was it was a whole lot of fun. But um but yeah, and I was so I was looking back and I mean, the the amount of money that I that I have owed right now that I'm paying on is not extravagant or anything like that.
00:32:26.26
Bill
Um, again, it goes back to the car, the insurance, couple other things, blah, blah, blah. But, um, you know, it just, it's, I don't know. I looked, I'm like, well, that's it's, I don't know. I felt good about it, you know?
00:32:34.52
Mike
Yeah.
00:32:34.84
Bill
And, and like, like you and I were talking at one time, you know, where people are, you know, going into the, into the brand new year. They're like, oh like a 2024 is fucking terrible. 25 has turned out to be terrible too.
00:32:44.01
Mike
Yeah.
00:32:45.12
Bill
And I'm like, what the fuck's going on in your life? I mean, what do something, do something different.
00:32:48.22
Mike
Yeah, exactly.
00:32:49.75
Bill
I'm not saying, you know, give up your place to live and go travel everywhere, but, um, Hey, if that's what makes you happy, go ahead and do that. Um, but I don't know, like we were talking about, it's like, what makes you happy? Do more of that.
00:33:02.21
Bill
You know, um what helps you stay sober?
00:33:02.49
Mike
Yes.
00:33:04.41
Bill
Do fucking more of that. You know? um I don't know. It just, uh, it, we're responsible for happiness as a by-product, but we are, do we agree that we're responsible for our unhappiness?
00:33:15.61
Mike
We're responsible for all of it.
00:33:18.54
Bill
Right. But I mean, but happiness is is a byproduct. We do the right thing and then we get happiness. But if we're, if we're unhappy, we, that's something to change. We can't necessarily, i don't know.
00:33:28.87
Bill
I think about it.
00:33:29.28
Mike
yeah Well, I mean, it's it's probably a byproduct of doing the wrong thing.
00:33:29.47
Bill
It's, easy it's easier.
00:33:34.75
Bill
you know, you know what? Thank you. This, you just made it. So could it, could it be that simple? Could it be that simple? Yeah.
00:33:40.67
Mike
and now it's time to fuck off.
00:33:44.53
Bill
but Literally, I'm sitting there. I get this all fucking complicated in my head. I'm like, yeah, like yeah it's a byproduct. It's doing the wrong thing. Jesus fucking Christ.
00:33:50.14
Mike
Yeah.
00:33:51.28
Bill
And you're the one with the stuff. I get a little bit of a stuffy head, but you're the one that's not fucking feeling well.
00:33:54.63
Mike
Mine's right. Yeah. I've got the balloon head.
00:33:58.48
Bill
Well, and you don't feel good.
00:33:58.76
Mike
the food
00:33:59.56
Bill
Hello.
00:33:59.73
Mike
Right. Thank you. yeah
00:34:02.07
Bill
yeah I'll be here. i'll I'll be here all night.
00:34:04.00
Mike
yeah
00:34:03.97
Bill
So do you you want to take a quick break and catch your breath breakfast?
00:34:06.68
Mike
Yeah.
00:34:07.14
Bill
there
00:34:07.49
Mike
hey Catch my breakfast.
00:34:08.30
Bill
catch Catch your breakfast and your breath for like seven seconds? Yeah.
00:34:12.14
Mike
Yeah, absolutely. All right. We'll be back with more of whatever the hell this is right after these words from our sponsors.
00:34:25.90
Bill
All right, everyone. Welcome back. Whatever the hell this is. Okay, so I got i get a few more things.
00:34:31.15
Mike
Yep.
00:34:33.22
Bill
And you know what? Relax for a minute. I got a couple of stories. You ready for some stories?
00:34:36.97
Mike
Ooh, story time. I'm ready.
00:34:39.17
Bill
So first of all, um I am going to be representing this little podcast on a recording for the Sober Curator podcast tomorrow. Now, the episode doesn't come out tomorrow.
00:34:47.42
Mike
Yeah.
00:34:49.59
Bill
just being recorded tomorrow. But once I tell you what it is, you would have hated it anyhow. And ah you know I'll tell you what it is.
00:34:53.77
Mike
yeah
00:34:55.88
Bill
So there is and it just happened out of the blue this week. There's a show on Netflix called Running Point, okay?
00:35:04.42
Mike
and Okay.
00:35:04.53
Bill
um Which I know you've never seen. Do you have Netflix?
00:35:06.97
Mike
Nope. I do not.
00:35:08.86
Bill
Okay. I didn't, I guess I didn't even know if you ever did. Um, so yeah, it's not a show on BTV or on t TV.
00:35:15.11
Mike
Right.
00:35:16.34
Bill
I just fucking with you. Cause I, I, you and I have sat there and watched some, but you and i seriously have sat there and watched, I've watched some old shit with you.
00:35:19.81
Mike
Turner classic movies.
00:35:24.97
Bill
And I'm like, this is kind of fun, you know?
00:35:25.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:35:26.76
Bill
So, I mean, I'm, I'm making fun of you, but not really, you know, sort of, but not really.
00:35:26.90
Mike
Yeah.
00:35:29.96
Mike
Uh-huh. Right.
00:35:31.44
Bill
Um, but it's called running point.
00:35:32.12
Mike
Is it featured on Adam 12?
00:35:32.99
Bill
Yeah. No, it wasn't. It wasn't on the love boat or anything like that.
00:35:39.23
Mike
Ah, damn.
00:35:39.51
Bill
so was it and wasn't on, wasn't on wheel of fortune or jeopardy or
00:35:39.98
Mike
All right.
00:35:42.80
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:35:44.61
Bill
um so it's, it's called running point. It has Kate Hudson, Justin throws in it. um It's basically about this. It's a Los Angeles professional basketball team called, I think it's called the waves or something like that. don't even know what it is, but this family owns the basketball team, Kate Hudson, um Justin throw, or part of the family. Then there's two brothers.
00:36:03.44
Bill
Long story short, Justin Theroux is a raging fucking drug addict and alcoholic.
00:36:07.74
Mike
right.
00:36:08.17
Bill
And the show starts off. He's the one that's running the company. Their dad had died. um That part of it. Very funny. His his character is actually fucking cracks me up the entire time. But he ends up going into this rehab to try to obviously save his reputation, the family's reputation and the whole thing, blah, blah, blah.
00:36:25.53
Bill
And appoints his sister, Kate Hudson, to run the team. So little bit about alcohol and drug abuse and in this this funny Justin Theroux character into, you know, obviously a female, you know, girl power type of thing. I'm sure that's kind probably what what drew, you know, Elise and maybe Tamar into the whole thing, plus the alcohol part of it.
00:36:44.13
Bill
But they had posted this review on it. I'm like, that was a fun show. They had like 10 episodes, 30 minute episodes. um One brother is just a fucking goofball. The other brother, the other one's gay. The dynamic we do those two is fucking hilarious.
00:36:57.28
Bill
um So I'm like, I i said, that show was great. I watched whatever. And then Elise texted me and she's like, do you want to come on and we'll do an episode of the podcast talking about the show? I'm like, well that's fine.
00:37:06.51
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:37:06.63
Bill
So that's how, that's how that came about. But, uh, and I'm like, I'm like, even if it was a show that you watch, you'd probably fucking hate every second of it.
00:37:09.05
Mike
That?
00:37:13.42
Bill
So, ah but, um, yeah, one way or the other, I mean, it was again, fucking random, but we're going record it like noon tomorrow.
00:37:13.77
Mike
Probably.
00:37:21.07
Bill
have idea when it'll come out, but obviously we'll, we'll promote it talk about it whenever it does.
00:37:25.25
Mike
Right. So stay tuned.
00:37:27.32
Bill
Yeah. Stay tuned for more and, and seriously go over. And I listened to um the first episode and a half of the, the sober curator one. And um you know, they're, they're getting their feet under, you know, they're getting the, it's, it's good. It's, it's entertaining. It's, and it's engaging.
00:37:41.86
Bill
um And it's, ah it's produced really well because they put a lot of time and effort into it.
00:37:46.79
Mike
ha What's that like?
00:37:47.13
Bill
Yeah. Yeah, I know. And it's just, it's nice. I mean, it's a, you can, it you can tell that they, the, the time that they took to get this thing launched in, in off the ground, um, it shows, you know, so, um, yeah, it's, again, go listen to it.
00:37:58.81
Mike
Cool.
00:38:01.67
Bill
Sober curator podcast. It's on Spotify and all that stuff. Um, so last weekend was, um, obviously, you know, Mike, but my, my grandson's birthday was on the 15th. That was his third birthday.
00:38:13.57
Mike
Mm hmm. Mm hmm.
00:38:13.86
Bill
And then we had the, um, I say we, uh, my, my daughter and son-in-law, I was involved in his, uh, his, or invited to at least his third birthday party.
00:38:23.11
Mike
Right.
00:38:23.26
Bill
It was at this, uh, this, um, kind of like kids building museum. It reminded me of like a discovery world or something like that. don't know they had those in Cleveland, But they have them in Milwaukee, but it's a just this whole area where they have rooms where you can go in like the little party rooms, but they they're also classrooms, you can tell their classrooms so you must have kids in there.
00:38:42.07
Bill
i don't know if they bring school kids in and teach whatever they do.
00:38:44.57
Mike
Probably.
00:38:45.82
Bill
But it's this whole playground stuff all these different you know the climbing to climbing things little learning tools a whole bit um two stories it's pretty fucking it amazing. Um, so we'll go in there and, uh, I mean, obviously get everyone together, but the kids are all scattered. Kimmy had, uh, like bagels and some, uh, you know, just, I don't know, snacky stuff, you know, obviously vegetable tray, whatever, little things like that.
00:39:07.80
Bill
Just trying to get everyone together to kind of have like little, these little pudding, pudding bowls that, uh, Pam made my, my ex,
00:39:14.53
Mike
Right.
00:39:14.59
Bill
um But the first thing that was funny was, um so I was in West Bend and still like an hour and 20 minutes or whatever, get up there. I plan on getting up early, helping them decorate. So I'm probably, i don't know, 20 minutes away, maybe 25 minutes away from Appleton and my phone rings and it's Pam who is for everyone out there. That's my daughter's mom, my first ex.
00:39:34.21
Mike
right
00:39:34.61
Bill
And I answer the phone. I'm like Hey, what's up? And she's like, so where are you? And I'm like, um, I'm on the way up. And she's like, are you, are you driving through or are you already there?
00:39:47.15
Bill
She's like, I, I, I gotta talk to you about something or I gotta ask you something or whatever.
00:39:49.68
Mike
Mmm.
00:39:51.32
Bill
However she put it, I'm like, what the fuck? Okay.
00:39:54.53
Mike
Dun, dun, dun.
00:39:56.13
Bill
Yeah. I'm like, what, what happened? Kind of like, are you there yet? Do you need to prepare yourself? This is how it came across to begin with. She didn't mean to do that.
00:40:02.06
Mike
Sure. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:40:03.61
Bill
Um, but I'm like, I'm like, I'm, I'm just at North Oscar. I'm like, what, what, what's going on? She's like, can you stop by here? I need some help. I made these pudding things. I mean, no, she's like, I made these cups of whatever.
00:40:15.82
Bill
And I'm like, wait a second. What? And she's like, I got these cups. I can only put this one in here with my car. It's going on and on. I'm like, wait, do you have liquid something? And she's like, no, no, no. It's pudding. And I'm like, okay, so ah what do you need?
00:40:28.32
Mike
Right.
00:40:29.42
Bill
just Just tell me. Let's let's back up here.
00:40:31.86
Mike
It's a pudding emergency.
00:40:32.05
Bill
i what What do you need? So what it was, she made 50 of these little you sort of pudding cups, these little cakes with, and they were delicious, by the way, pudding with little crumbles and whatever, like a little worm in it.
00:40:40.68
Mike
Okay. um
00:40:45.78
Bill
Like they were little ah like dirt cups of pudding, you know?
00:40:48.42
Mike
Okay.
00:40:49.05
Bill
um Very good. So for all the kids and obviously everyone else, but what the problem was is that she had these trays in it, almost like going into Aldi and having these box where cans were in them.
00:40:59.04
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:40:59.28
Bill
And she only had room in her trunk to lay down one.
00:40:59.88
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:41:01.97
Bill
So it didn't tilt and tip. So she just wanted to know if I had room in my trunk. I'm like, that's fine. I'll come by, text me your address. I'll stop by and do that. So, um so we do that. And I, I, I called Kimmy real quick, left her a message. And then she calls me back and she's like, she's like, wait, what do you have to do?
00:41:18.22
Bill
Yeah. So I just told her, she's like, she didn't say she needed something. Like, it's not a big deal. I'm just going to go, ah I'll go do that. I said, I'll meet you guys there.
00:41:24.31
Mike
ah hu
00:41:25.92
Bill
Done. So I hung out with Pam for a little bit and in her condo, showed me how to work that she was doing there. We got to the thing, got all set up, get everyone in there, blah, blah, blah. And um we were sitting there kind of shooting the shit or about whatever, all of us were, were hanging up these balloons and and stuff in there, getting all this stuff set.
00:41:41.05
Bill
And then all said and done, the kids are in there. They're, you know, kind of doing the, everyone's finally is sitting down to eat these little cups. Kids are otherwise running it around.
00:41:49.04
Mike
isn
00:41:49.53
Bill
And up then, you know, like kids are open or Ollie's opening up presents. And I just kind of looked over and I don't know if you saw the pictures I posted, but I took a picture of just Pam and Dawn standing there.
00:41:59.35
Mike
hu
00:41:59.44
Bill
and And, you know, I took a couple of pictures of Kathy popped in. I'm like, I'm like, oh, I said, I was, yeah, I took a picture of those three. And then I said, ah told me I and Dawn, I said, I just took a picture of you guys. Cause I'm like, this kind of weird. I said, my two ex-wives out in the wild together. And they're like, they're both there. They're just like, shut up.
00:42:15.36
Bill
Yeah.
00:42:15.67
Mike
Right.
00:42:16.59
Bill
And then um there was this balloon. It was a crane. Okay. So was a balloon shaped or I'm sorry, not a balloon shaped crane, a crane shaped balloon.
00:42:27.14
Mike
Wow.
00:42:29.15
Bill
Okay.
00:42:29.51
Mike
Okay.
00:42:30.42
Bill
So thick body, long crane, right?
00:42:33.70
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:42:33.84
Bill
So think in your mind what this, no, ah a truck, a truck, like a, yeah.
00:42:34.72
Mike
So, like the bird or the tool? Okay. Gotcha.
00:42:40.05
Bill
um A heavy piece of machinery crane. I'm sorry.
00:42:42.45
Mike
Gotcha.
00:42:42.82
Bill
Okay.
00:42:43.17
Mike
Yeah. No, I've got, you know, whatever. i mean, thick body, long neck. It could be either one.
00:42:47.61
Bill
It could have been either one. It could have been actually would have looked the same. So it looked like, you know, a ball sack and a penis is what it looked like.
00:42:52.97
Mike
Ah.
00:42:54.28
Bill
So we're we're getting all this stuff down at the end, packing up, and I grabbed the one. I'm looking at it. i walked up to I walked up to Pam, and she's just got her back to me. I'm just jamming it through her back. with this is she looks she looks around she's like what the hell she smacks the thing away i'm laughing my ass off and then uh you know so we're we're popping all these balloons trying to you know get everything cleaned up and then uh somebody said something about whatever i'm like oh i said grab the you should have grabbed the penis balloon and dawn's like what are you talking about the penis balloon pam's like yeah he's poking me with it
00:43:25.52
Mike
Nice. Uh-huh.
00:43:27.05
Bill
And then Derek is the one that's blowing all of them up. So apparently Dawn's like, oh, she's like, I know one. I know that one. She's like, when Derek was blowing it up, as the air went into it, the the arm of the crane was in it.
00:43:34.58
Mike
oh
00:43:37.59
Bill
So it popped up between his legs. She's like, they were laughing their asses off at him. So...
00:43:42.01
Mike
nice
00:43:42.07
Bill
it was just It was just funny. It was just all this different stuff back and forth. And then Katie had one of the balloons. And um you know she's asking Ollie which one he wanted because wanted take some the balloons.
00:43:53.13
Bill
And he says, no, didn't want that one. She's like, can I pop it? Katie asked Ollie, can I pop this? And he said, yes, she popped it.
00:43:58.06
Mike
Yes.
00:43:59.49
Bill
He fucking screamed tears, looking at her going, no, you shouldn't have wanted it.
00:44:00.24
Mike
you ah hu
00:44:07.55
Bill
And she's felt terrible. It's like, she's, she's like, he told me it was okay.
00:44:11.13
Mike
He said it was okay.
00:44:15.11
Bill
It was so fucking funny, but he was, it was, he was in, um, he was, I was going to say he was moody. He was, he was moody. If he wasn't, he just wanted to play, you know, cause he was in this, again, this kid's paradise.
00:44:24.89
Mike
Well, yeah. Overstimulated, right. Yeah, exactly.
00:44:27.97
Bill
oh
00:44:28.87
Mike
Yeah.
00:44:29.38
Bill
Yeah. And anything outside of it, he wanted, he wanted nothing to do with me. And normally, you know, he's, he does, he pays attention to me.
00:44:34.46
Mike
Mm-hmm. Right.
00:44:35.76
Bill
um He wouldn't allow, cause I said, we take picture. He's like, no, I said, we're not going to, we can't take a selfie together. No. I'm like, well, that's fine. And I said, that's fine. Whatever, man. I'm like, ah okay. But um I don't know.
00:44:48.13
Bill
You know, the the thing of it is, and it all said done, um and I say this all the time, but I was i was driving back um from that. Oh, I got to tell you what Pam said a minute, too. But I was driving back from that, back to West Bend.
00:45:00.26
Bill
And again, you know, our 15, 20 minutes, whatever it was, and just sitting there and, you know, thinking, I mean...
00:45:02.29
Mike
Uh
00:45:06.61
Bill
Same thing. All, what do we do to, and I, I, I hate to use the word deserve. What do we do?
00:45:12.43
Mike
huh.
00:45:12.82
Bill
What do we do to get all these things?
00:45:15.07
Mike
Right.
00:45:15.07
Bill
You know? And when I say all these things, the, the ability to be there, that's number one, um, to, to be invited.
00:45:20.03
Mike
Now.
00:45:21.84
Bill
I'm talking about any, um any one of us or anything to be invited, to be around family, um, to have people happy to see us, um, to, to be there with, I mean, you figure that, you know, I alienated my daughter at one point, both of my ex-wives are treated like absolute shit.
00:45:24.30
Mike
z
00:45:28.33
Mike
Right.
00:45:34.58
Mike
z Of course.
00:45:36.53
Bill
um You know it would have been a grandson that I never would have met, a son-in-law that i never would have met.
00:45:39.27
Mike
v Right.
00:45:41.17
Bill
um You know, all these other people like Kimmy's, Kimmy's brother, um you know, was there and all these separate, I'm like these people, I'm like it, I don't know. It's this, it's this wave of Jesus Christ, you know?
00:45:52.42
Bill
i mean, it's, it's the gratitude.
00:45:52.88
Mike
Uh-huh. Yeah.
00:45:55.22
Bill
It's the, it's the, I almost said the, almost not believing it, but it, it sort of is sometimes you're like, it's unbelievable.
00:45:56.03
Mike
Yeah.
00:46:01.13
Mike
Yeah, sometimes, yeah. what's What's an asshole like me doing and with all this happiness around me? Uh-huh.
00:46:08.32
Bill
Yeah. And then, um I don't know, Pam and I were talking about something and, or we were standing out with, I think maybe even Don was out there at the time.
00:46:15.57
Mike
um
00:46:15.55
Bill
No, Kimmy, me, Kimmy and Pam were out there talking about something.
00:46:18.01
Mike
ah huh
00:46:18.78
Bill
And I don't know, however, kind of came up, some sobriety thing came up and I said, yeah, i said, I told somebody recently, I said, if you really want to get a sense of, of how my program is. I'm like, Oh yeah, Mike, I said, Mike and I were talking about that in an episode.
00:46:31.32
Bill
I'm like, ask either one of my ex-wives. And she's like, yeah, she goes, anyone could ask me. Cause she's like, she's like, you know, she goes, i you know, I vouch for you these days. I said, well, yeah, cause I'm not an asshole anymore.
00:46:40.07
Mike
hey
00:46:40.82
Bill
And then, then I stopped myself and I said, well, I said, Oh, Kath, that's a Kathy was there.
00:46:42.42
Mike
aha
00:46:45.57
Bill
And, uh, and I said, well, I'm still an asshole. I'm just not, and Kathy's like, yeah, he's just not drunk anymore. Yeah.
00:46:50.17
Mike
right
00:46:52.11
Bill
And she said, yeah, she goes, she goes, but Pam said, she goes, you know what? She goes, an example of how different that you are. She goes, I called you. And even though you seem like you didn't want to, you came and you came by to pick up the pudding.
00:47:02.67
Mike
he
00:47:03.74
Bill
I'm like, I'm like, listen, i said, it is not that I didn't want to. I said, do you want, and then then I told her, I said, do you understand how your phone call started?
00:47:09.46
Mike
Yeah.
00:47:11.32
Bill
She's like, no.
00:47:11.37
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:47:12.24
Bill
I said, it sounded like somebody died. Yeah.
00:47:14.27
Mike
Right.
00:47:14.82
Bill
And I said, like, you were going to tell me some horrible news.
00:47:17.42
Mike
Yes.
00:47:17.49
Bill
I'm like, I, I'm like, you confused the shit out of me. She's like, oh I'm sorry. I'm like, you have apologize.
00:47:22.55
Mike
Right.
00:47:22.53
Bill
But I'm like, yes. The only thing that I thought about was it, if yeah, you have cups full of liquid.
00:47:24.58
Mike
Well...
00:47:27.38
Bill
I had to figure out how to put that in there without dumping it in my car. Yes. Right.
00:47:30.57
Mike
Yeah, right. Well, no, I mean, they're not used to you actually giving a shit when they call you and to ask you to do something. Right. You're like, oh, my God, what's wrong? You know, before it's just like, hey asshole, I got a problem.
00:47:40.03
Bill
Right.
00:47:43.14
Mike
Come help me with this. Right. But you actually care now.
00:47:45.40
Bill
Right.
00:47:46.33
Mike
So, yeah, it's kind of a different reaction from you.
00:47:49.47
Bill
yeah Right. Yeah. And it's, it is, it's, it's amazing that, cause well, you and I, and it was within last handful of episodes, we were talking about that, that even though we've got this amount of time under our belts, you know, as you would say, you haven't said this in a while, a few 24s, we gotta, do we have a few now or a couple?
00:48:02.18
Mike
home
00:48:05.61
Mike
Yeah. um It's still a couple. We don't get a few until 20 years.
00:48:09.80
Bill
oh Oh, shit. Okay. Okay.
00:48:11.11
Mike
No. No.
00:48:12.41
Bill
I'm sorry. Let me start over again. um So now, now that we have a couple of 24s under our belts, um you know, even though people, people still, and and I think we were talking about that, that there's still that people don't forget, you know, and,
00:48:16.37
Mike
ah
00:48:27.37
Mike
up no
00:48:28.69
Bill
And yeah, to for something as easy as that, possibly the my reaction to begin with, with Pam on the phone reminded her, I never thought about that, but it probably reminded her of the way things were years ago.
00:48:35.23
Mike
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:48:39.37
Mike
Sure.
00:48:39.47
Bill
you know And i that wasn't my intention, but um you know I mean, i've I've embedded these terrible feelings in you know in her you know so Wow, i just had a that you just helped me with ah with the revelation.
00:48:42.94
Mike
course not.
00:48:46.01
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh. Yep.
00:48:53.15
Bill
i understand that more now.
00:48:53.67
Mike
Yeah. Yeah, right. You know, but again, you know, it's, yeah, that that's a reaction to us because that's what we made them do all those years. And, you know, yeah, and and it's probably, it's going to lessen and it already has clearly.
00:49:03.63
Bill
Right.
00:49:08.88
Mike
And, you know, because if it hadn't lessened, she wouldn't have called you in the first fucking place.
00:49:16.26
Bill
Right. Yeah. And, and God, what was it? So 2025,
00:49:23.07
Mike
Hmm.
00:49:23.11
Bill
we have been, Pam and I have been a apart. Jesus. And I, I couldn't do the math in my head.
00:49:25.44
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:49:27.13
Bill
Stupid. 31 years.
00:49:29.52
Mike
Right.
00:49:29.51
Bill
Okay.
00:49:29.92
Mike
Nice.
00:49:30.26
Bill
It'll be 31 years on May. No.
00:49:33.78
Mike
Yeah. Yeah.
00:49:34.72
Bill
Oh shit. Just a couple of days from now. April, April 1st is when we physically split up.
00:49:39.40
Mike
Done with this.
00:49:41.13
Bill
Yeah.
00:49:41.54
Mike
nices
00:49:41.82
Bill
Surprisingly. Well, it's yeah it just happened to be that's when our ah we were in a place in Heartland, Wisconsin.
00:49:42.40
Mike
yeah
00:49:47.47
Bill
That's when our lease was up. So we decided that would be the the best time to to make the break.
00:49:50.21
Mike
yeah ah
00:49:51.72
Bill
is when our but are
00:49:52.15
Mike
done with this
00:49:53.55
Bill
Yeah, and I'm pretty sure it was april beginning of April 1st. I think it was. um If not, it would now it had to have been. Um, but yeah, so you figure, I mean, fucking 31 years ago and, you know, we didn't have anything to do with each other.
00:50:05.36
Bill
She came back into, um into my life after I moved to Madison. So three years in, you know, so she's only got, you know, and I say only, she only got 12, 12 years of decent me, um, you know, in her life.
00:50:10.85
Mike
Yeah.
00:50:13.60
Mike
Yeah. Uh-huh.
00:50:17.07
Bill
And, uh, I mean, yeah, I've, I've helped her. I've helped her over the years, but still it doesn't, again, Dawn, Dawn said it best.
00:50:20.51
Mike
Sure.
00:50:23.76
Bill
She's like, I forgive you, but I will never forget all the things that you did.
00:50:25.79
Mike
Yelp.
00:50:26.84
Bill
You know, she said that years ago, you know? So I don't know. It's a, yeah, that's, that's a good point. I never, I never thought about that. You know, that, uh, yeah, I probably, um probably got shit up these, uh, I don't mean to laugh at it.
00:50:39.37
Mike
ah her
00:50:39.84
Bill
but What the fuck am I supposed to do?
00:50:40.20
Mike
oh
00:50:41.09
Bill
You know?
00:50:41.20
Mike
You're right.
00:50:43.97
Bill
But yeah, it's, so I did, I conjured up probably the old fucking ideas in in her head.
00:50:49.35
Mike
Yeah. But remember, we're not hurting anybody but ourselves.
00:50:53.11
Bill
Yeah, isn't that, isn't that the fucking truth, right?
00:50:55.65
Mike
Yep.
00:50:56.63
Bill
But um yeah, that's ah it's just, that's that's kind of amazing, actually, now that i know that I think more about it.
00:51:00.42
Mike
There it is.
00:51:02.30
Bill
But all right, so that was that, was that that was that little story. it was It was a lot of fun. I mean, we had we had a good time, you know?
00:51:08.95
Mike
Of course.
00:51:09.90
Bill
And I'm glad that that, oh, that that place that I stayed, because i didn't get to tell you this much either or talk about it much, that place I stayed in in West Bend, it was really nice. I mean, very, very nice.
00:51:20.97
Bill
It was, I was, did I tell you that I i messaged the the host when I first got there and I told her, I'm like, you're underselling this place on on Airbnb.
00:51:28.47
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:51:29.47
Bill
I said, you're not explaining how nice this is.
00:51:31.80
Mike
Right. Nice.
00:51:32.59
Bill
And there was a garage. I was able to park my car in a garage. And, um you know, it's the first time I've ever been able to do that.
00:51:38.16
Mike
Yeah.
00:51:38.28
Bill
Now, you know, a couple of little things like it didn't have a, these are just weird things. And I didn't even bring them up to her because i you could tell some of the, I don't know how long she's been renting this or she's just remodeled. Cause it kind of looks like a lot of this stuff.
00:51:50.97
Bill
It literally, when I looked at it, except you could tell the refrigerator was used for the most part, it it looked like some of the shit had never been, i mean, it was brand fucking a new microwave stove, refrigerator, dishwasher.
00:51:54.91
Mike
Right.
00:52:00.29
Mike
Hmm.
00:52:01.80
Bill
I mean, you could tell that the whole bathroom, everything has been, has been redone.
00:52:06.35
Mike
Nice.
00:52:06.38
Bill
Um, there's no blinds in the, living room. So you got the patio door, a couple of big windows, that sort of thing out facing the lake.
00:52:13.69
Mike
Yeah.
00:52:13.92
Bill
This, this time a year, not really bad, but I think in the summertime, I think it'd be a little weird.
00:52:18.26
Mike
Yeah.
00:52:18.38
Bill
Um, you know, just because, you know, people would be out and then, you know, you're sitting in the living room, kind of like in a fishbowl type of thing.
00:52:21.40
Mike
Sure.
00:52:24.41
Mike
Yeah.
00:52:24.65
Bill
Um, but little things, but nothing, nothing big, but it was, it was nice. I mean, I had a, I had a nice time there. was very comfortable, but again, it's, you know, it's March and,
00:52:33.47
Mike
Yeah.
00:52:33.84
Bill
in Wisconsin, you know, same as it was when I was in, um whatever I was in found fondle like last year, same goddamn thing, you know, right by the lake when it was fucking cold as hell and, you know, snowed a couple of times, but it was, it was nice.
00:52:34.46
Mike
Wisconsin. Yes.
00:52:41.42
Mike
susan
00:52:46.86
Bill
I'm, I'm glad I, plus being close and I got to see Derek a couple of times and, and Katie and give my toolbox that, uh, that I had.
00:52:51.01
Mike
z
00:52:54.38
Bill
So did that and, you know, all that stuff is just, all of it was really nice.
00:52:54.86
Mike
Right.
00:52:58.26
Bill
So,
00:52:58.47
Mike
Good.
00:52:59.55
Bill
But, um yeah, oh, and this weekend I'm heading down to North Carolina, that same place I went to last time. So, speaking of, another place with no lines on the windows.
00:53:08.55
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:53:08.97
Bill
But that's the one that's up on the hill, the cabin up on the hill.
00:53:10.64
Mike
Right.
00:53:11.36
Bill
But, yeah, I'm looking forward to that one, too. So, All right. Do you want a little bit of an alcoholic story? This is going to be like a no a no shit type of story, okay?
00:53:20.22
Mike
All right.
00:53:21.17
Bill
Do you remember ah the story about Michael Jordan's son drunk in the car whatever he was driving on the railroad tracks, the whole bit?
00:53:26.08
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:53:28.44
Bill
So this was a couple of weeks ago, but the headline was... um Michael Jordan's son, ah Marcus Jordan, um now says he has had challenges with alcohol and substance abuse after his after his arrest. He said this.
00:53:43.84
Bill
And first thing I thought was, well, OK. But then the when I read the article, it says he's asking to be sent to rehab versus jail. um
00:53:54.60
Mike
Right.
00:53:54.82
Bill
So he's he has now found, oh, by the way, i'll bet you it.
00:53:59.75
Mike
i you have some challenges.
00:54:00.59
Bill
hey go ahead. Yeah, I believe I might have a substance abuse disorder. I believe I have challenges. I believe I would be better served in rehab than jail.
00:54:10.97
Mike
Yeah.
00:54:12.42
Bill
yeah It's like that same thing going back to that that musician that was all drunk singing that whatever that national anthem or whatever it was that whatever the thing was.
00:54:19.86
Mike
Oh, yeah.
00:54:21.63
Bill
And yeah, that she you know, somebody is like, yeah, you you need to go into the fucking rehab to try to save your career here.
00:54:22.22
Mike
Uh-huh.
00:54:27.97
Bill
Yeah.
00:54:28.32
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:54:29.03
Bill
these This dude's just trying to probably literally save his ass, you know, by not going not going to prison.
00:54:33.12
Mike
Of course.
00:54:34.53
Bill
But I just thought about it. I'm like, so, and I guess question for you. Did you ever um were you did you ever get yourself, because I mean, of course, us people call it a jackpot.
00:54:44.54
Mike
Mm-hmm.
00:54:44.55
Bill
Did you ever get yourself into a jackpot and say, oh, I've got a problem. I you i need help versus and anything like that. Or did you ever try that or no?
00:54:52.68
Mike
No. I mean, thankfully, I never, never, never got caught.
00:54:53.38
Bill
so Okay.
00:54:57.00
Mike
No.
00:54:57.45
Bill
Ha ha ha ha ha.
00:54:59.61
Mike
you know, nothing, nothing too serious that I had to pull that card out. Now, the only times, uh, that, yeah, you know, like homeless and I didn't want to sleep on the street. So I go to rehab, uh, you know, so they can teach me how to drink properly and yeah.
00:55:10.17
Bill
Right.
00:55:16.45
Mike
And I'll have a, you know, three hots and a cot.
00:55:19.36
Bill
Right.
00:55:19.51
Mike
Um, Well, but now I, again, never got into a jackpot like that, where that was an option. You know, the few times I was locked up were, you know, weekends and shit like that.
00:55:30.68
Mike
So it wouldn't have, would have been useful to me, you know, other the fact that, you know, maybe I'd have got my shit together and pulled my head out of my ass, but no, that wouldn't have been useful to me either. Cause I wouldn't have all this wonderful experience to help the next guy.
00:55:40.88
Bill
Right.
00:55:44.59
Mike
Right. Right.
00:55:46.34
Bill
Yeah, that's it. That's it.
00:55:48.66
Mike
right
00:55:49.42
Bill
But yeah, and I thought about that too, just as I was, I didn't think about that that question until I just asked you, but um the two times that it was brought, you know, things like that were kind of brought to the forefront were my DUI and then of course my divorce.
00:56:02.04
Mike
Right.
00:56:02.17
Bill
And I just fucking denied all of it. You know, of course I was trying to control my drinking with the whole, you know, drunk class.
00:56:04.10
Mike
Of course. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
00:56:08.13
Bill
And then with the, um, With the old divorce, I just, you know, tried to deny it and, you know, tried, ah fought it, you know, fought it enough to get, at least to begin with, you know, short, shortened visitation, then into whatever normal visitation I had before, obviously before I, you know,
00:56:12.77
Mike
ah huh
00:56:24.99
Mike
Before he blew it all up eventually. Right.
00:56:27.55
Bill
yeah exactly before I, before I couldn't hold it together.
00:56:28.44
Mike
Just. Pushed it down the road. Kick that can down the road a little bit. Yep.
00:56:33.11
Bill
I did. i literally kicked that can down the road for a couple years. It was about ah ah three three years, I think, I kicked it down the road.
00:56:36.58
Mike
Yep. Mm-hmm. Yep.
00:56:39.78
Bill
because It was yeah was that first that first year, that because it took a year from Dawn and I split beginning a january of January 2006. And I think it was, um, mid February of the following year.
00:56:54.03
Bill
So 2007, when we got divorced and I think I was only, think I was only seeing him.
00:56:56.46
Mike
Uh
00:57:00.82
Bill
didn't think I had him overnight in that first, that first year.
00:57:04.07
Mike
huh.
00:57:04.42
Bill
Um, and I think it was Thursday. i know Thursdays, I i think might've only been Thursday nights that I, that I saw him like once a week or something like that. I can't remember now. I, I think I was drunk.
00:57:13.50
Mike
ah
00:57:14.43
Bill
Yeah.
00:57:14.86
Mike
Right. Yes.
00:57:16.92
Bill
But I shouldn't laugh at that. But it's fucking it is. It is what it is, you know. But dumb but yeah, that's exactly I think i yeah yeah that's a good way to put it.
00:57:21.19
Mike
Right.
00:57:24.86
Bill
I literally I I kicked it down. I kicked it down the can for kicked it down. Jesus kicked the can down the road. You know what? I think I'm fucking I think I'm tired is what the problem is.
00:57:31.82
Mike
As far as you could. All
00:57:34.61
Bill
I don't know what the fuck's wrong with me. i You know, I'm talking too much. That's my problem.
00:57:38.46
Mike
right. you're You're carrying too much of the load. i feel sorry for you.
00:57:42.65
Bill
My fucking back hurts from carrying this podcast.
00:57:44.08
Mike
right.
00:57:44.88
Bill
Jesus Christ. um All right. So I, one thing I want to read from, um read from the, one of the readings I had from my list here.
00:57:55.34
Bill
So this is from God grant me.
00:57:55.45
Mike
right
00:57:56.57
Bill
And I can't remember when this is from, but probably a month ago, I would guess. um I will listen to my dreams. What is, What is my Oh, what is my mind working out in my sleep? If I remember my dreams, I will talk about them with wide awake friends.
00:58:12.91
Mike
ah Yeah.
00:58:12.92
Bill
So my question was, um even in a general sense, have you ever, I don't know, I don't even want to say maybe analyze is the wrong word. if you ever like questioned or looked at or anything with dreams or and that's just kind of ah
00:58:25.74
Mike
No. thought And whatever you do, for God's sakes, you selfish son of a bitch, don't talk about your dreams with other people. Nobody gives a fuck.
00:58:36.22
Bill
ah No, and I just, I didn't know. i just just didn't know if you had a weird fucking, if you had some weird fucking dream, if you ever tried. And I wouldn't, I haven't sat down with people and be like, hey, so but unless it's some sex dream.
00:58:47.65
Bill
And then, you know, whatever you thought about the sex dream, then, and you're like, ah text somebody, hey, by the way, i dreamt about you.
00:58:48.64
Mike
oh yeah
00:58:53.21
Mike
ah Right. That's creepy, too. Don't talk about your dreams with anybody. Nobody cares.
00:59:02.72
Bill
Okay. Well, that forget, forget I even brought that one up.
00:59:05.21
Mike
Yeah. i remember Actually, that one was from not all that long ago, I don't think, and because I kind of remember it and I remember reading it going, God, don't do that. Yeah.
00:59:14.78
Bill
Yeah, I just didn't know. I don't know that we've, ah you know in all, i I guess now I know for a fact that we've never talked about it because I think I would have remembered that reaction and I wouldn't have brought it up.
00:59:20.83
Mike
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:59:23.30
Bill
yeah All right, so here's another one. this This is better. This is not about dreams. um Today, from God grant me again, today I will write down five examples of times when I took myself, oh no, that's not the one I want.
00:59:34.97
Bill
Hang on.
00:59:35.60
Mike
fit
00:59:35.80
Bill
It was one i just had. Oh, here we go. I'm sorry. This was this was about, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. It's ah when I took myself too seriously, but it says, what spiritual principles could have helped me do the things, do things differently?
00:59:50.32
Bill
So the reason I wrote this down, and this is an honest question, um it was talking about spiritual principles.
00:59:53.94
Mike
her
00:59:57.69
Bill
what are What are the spiritual principles? Are they AA principles? Are they recovery principles? Do you know?
01:00:04.79
Mike
I mean,
01:00:05.09
Bill
that's why That's why I wrote it down, because I don't know.
01:00:06.53
Mike
Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, no, I mean, the absolutes are a real good example of spiritual principles. um They're not technically AA, but I mean, yes, of course, there's spiritual principles involved with AA.
01:00:13.09
Bill
OK. OK.
01:00:18.40
Mike
know, do good, get good. That's a spiritual principle. You know, don't be an asshole.
01:00:21.36
Bill
OK.
01:00:22.54
Mike
That's a spiritual principle. ah Right. Yeah. You know, spiritual principles is whatever, you know, thinking outside of yourself, um you know, thinking of something higher, greater than. Yeah. so That's all spiritual principles.
01:00:38.84
Bill
okay
01:00:39.11
Mike
um You know, and and it's individual. it can be whatever, you know. i Yeah. It's, you know, things that are bigger than you.
01:00:48.24
Bill
Yeah. And I just, when, when I read that seriously, the, the only reason I wrote it down and I did the whole thing to kind of make it, you know, put it in context, but um I'm like, did I miss, like, is there a book on this?
01:00:58.29
Mike
a
01:00:58.49
Bill
It was written is on what, what page are the spiritual? I seriously, I'm like, what the fuck are the spiritual principles? But I get it. So it's, it's concepts that are part of the spiritual thing.
01:01:04.68
Mike
Yeah.
01:01:06.53
Bill
It doesn't have to be set necessarily a list like the absolutes, although the absolutes could be, um that could be part of, okay, I get it now.
01:01:07.06
Mike
Yes.
01:01:10.29
Mike
Right.
01:01:13.09
Mike
Right. Yeah.
01:01:13.82
Bill
But seriously, I was just like, what the, what I missed where, Where was I that day in class?
01:01:15.79
Mike
Yeah. What'd I miss? Uh-huh.
01:01:20.01
Bill
yeah
01:01:21.46
Mike
You're there. It's just, yeah, it's not. Yeah. It's the principles of things that are bigger than you.
01:01:27.44
Bill
Okay. I got you. All right. So it's getting, I'll tell you what, well, I've got one more thing from a sobriety standpoint. I got one rocket roll thing and then we'll, you can, you can fuck us off.
01:01:38.57
Bill
Okay. You ready?
01:01:39.08
Mike
All right.
01:01:40.44
Bill
Okay. So um in this, I touched on just briefly when, when we had Tom on, but I didn't, I didn't go into it that much because obviously it I didn't want to hijack what he was talking about, but Um, so I've been hearing a lot, it mainly in podcasts, but I, know I've heard this over the years.
01:01:55.57
Bill
There's a lot of stories that I've been hearing on podcasts and Tom even said it. Um, you know, i grew up in Wisconsin, the drinking culture and blah, blah, blah. So I hear a lot of people, either I'm hearing more people saying it, or it's just, I'm picking up on it more.
01:02:08.90
Bill
drinking is so ingrained in our culture quote unquote or when I was growing up drinking was a part of how could I not or how could I lived in Wisconsin and not been part of that sort of thing and it's again i don't know if I'm just noticing it more um if it's being talked about more but it for I don't it bothers me a little bit it feels like i don't know I'll tell you I'll tell you that minute but it's it's bothering me a little bit so I just wanted to bring it up and
01:02:12.73
Mike
All
01:02:19.47
Mike
right.
01:02:33.94
Mike
Okay.
01:02:34.22
Bill
And see if if you've thought about this or heard about it or if you have any thoughts on it whatsoever. Go, Mike. Right.
01:02:39.97
Mike
Okay.
01:02:40.80
Bill
yeah
01:02:42.93
Mike
Um, well, yeah, I mean, clearly, you know, alcohol is part of our culture. Um, you know, James Bond, man, fucking dry martini steak, shaken, not stirred.
01:02:55.09
Mike
Um, yeah, it's just one example.
01:02:55.24
Bill
right
01:02:57.71
Mike
I mean, yes, it's, it's part of the fabric of society has been for a long time since that first time they drank that rotten fruit juice or wherever it was. Um, yeah, I'm,
01:03:10.95
Mike
ah I don't know. Again, using it, it sounds like it's an excuse. a,
01:03:19.35
Mike
It's a trigger. It's... yeah It's... so Yeah. you know I mean, I grew up in a drinking culture, too. Detroit, Polacks, I mean, they drink a lot.
01:03:31.67
Mike
um Catholics, they drink lot. um
01:03:34.19
Bill
right Right.
01:03:34.74
Mike
You know, all that. Yeah. you know Sports, culture, drinking. Yes, it's part of it. Okay. So... You know, what's that got to do with anything? Yes, it exists. Okay.
01:03:46.38
Mike
What's that got to do with me? You know, I can use it an excuse who I grew up around it. Yeah, I did. So what? You know, I've talked about when I was a kid, you know, um many of the houses that I hung out in had bars in them.
01:03:59.00
Mike
Yeah.
01:03:59.51
Bill
Oh, God, yeah.
01:03:59.89
Mike
yeah Yeah, right. you know And I mean, I remember being very, very young and going and playing around the bars, you know being behind them and pretending I was you know serving drinks, sitting at them, pretending I was drinking.
01:04:14.53
Mike
um Yes, okay. Because I'm fucking, I'm an alcoholic. I was from the get-go. um Has nothing to do with culture. I could have been raised Amish where it wasn't anywhere around me at all and I still would be an alcoholic so it's neither here nor there to me again sounds like ah some sort of excuse that I'm not buying into
01:04:38.15
Bill
Right. So, in and and i was, I was trying not to lead you or tell you what my opinion was, but that was exactly what I, I think that's why didn't even think, I know that's why it's bothering me because i'm I'm looking at it.
01:04:42.77
Mike
m
01:04:48.43
Mike
right mm-hmm uh-huh
01:04:49.09
Bill
I'm hearing these people as excuses. Well, I grew up here. What do you expect? This is what it was.
01:04:53.34
Mike
Right.
01:04:53.57
Bill
What do you expect? Blah, blah, blah. What do you expect? And, you know, I was like, really? Okay. So, I mean, i don't know. I mean, I, so people say Wisconsin. Yes. I spent my, if you want to call them your formative years in Wisconsin.
01:05:02.48
Mike
Yeah.
01:05:04.78
Bill
Yes. I spent those in Wisconsin.
01:05:05.18
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:05:06.74
Bill
Um, but I was born in Cleveland, you know, and I lived in Pittsburgh and every place that I lived, I, I remember people drinking and having parties and doing whatever.
01:05:08.33
Mike
Right. Mm-hmm.
01:05:14.55
Bill
It didn't fucking matter, you know?
01:05:16.03
Mike
Yeah, right.
01:05:16.36
Bill
Um,
01:05:17.08
Mike
I mean, yeah, I'm pretty sure they sell liquor in all 50 states.
01:05:20.86
Bill
correct. Right.
01:05:21.86
Mike
And and and in most of the countries around the world.
01:05:22.22
Bill
And,
01:05:25.34
Bill
Yes. And the bar in the basement. Yes. When my dad, when my dad then it refinished our basement, of course there was a fucking bar.
01:05:27.83
Mike
Yep.
01:05:30.86
Bill
Why wouldn't there be, you know, that's, that was the thing, you know, when you, when you built a basement to this day, when you see people, um, when, when Don and Corey rebuilt or ah built their basement, they, they built a bar down there.
01:05:31.03
Mike
Of course. Right. Yeah.
01:05:40.07
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:05:41.53
Bill
And I don't know if I ever told you this.
01:05:42.02
Mike
Yep.
01:05:43.11
Bill
So what they did was, and this is actually quite honestly, a very fucking it cool. Um, the, the, the surface of their bar is all bottle caps.
01:05:51.55
Mike
Yeah.
01:05:52.15
Bill
So they took all like beer bottle caps and then spread them around and then put, um I don't know if they put a glaze on or whatever, but they're all, yeah, yeah, something like that.
01:05:54.68
Mike
Yeah.
01:05:58.70
Mike
Yeah. Epoxy or something. Right.
01:06:01.19
Bill
But it's all, it's, it's fucking cool.
01:06:03.49
Mike
Yeah.
01:06:04.90
Bill
You know, and we were what right after they had it done, we were down there. i think it was Derek's, yeah, his graduation thing. We were down there and I'm like, this is fucking cool.
01:06:10.74
Mike
Mm-hmm.
01:06:12.19
Bill
And I think, or I think both were like, ah, it took fucking forever.
01:06:15.34
Mike
Uh-huh.
01:06:15.42
Bill
You know, I mean, probably to drink home all of it to a certain extent, you know, you get the people over.
01:06:17.72
Mike
Right. Right.
01:06:20.55
Bill
It doesn't take that long. um But putting them all in there was it was actually very cool.
01:06:21.82
Mike
Uh huh.
01:06:23.63
Bill
So it's a it's a thing. I don't know. And I was looking at it the same way, but i I was trying really hard not to not give my opinion. But you were you ended up in the same place that I was that I was thinking.
01:06:31.12
Mike
huh.
01:06:33.32
Mike
Uh
01:06:33.86
Bill
And that's I don't know why I'm picking up on it more now than I than I used to. But it just seems like.
01:06:39.04
Mike
huh.
01:06:40.86
Bill
um Like I listened to the sober motivation podcast and just random ones, all these people, well, I grew up here.
01:06:43.90
Mike
huh.
01:06:46.38
Bill
So this is what it was.
01:06:47.28
Mike
Uh huh.
01:06:47.45
Bill
Or I was this, I was Irish.
01:06:48.50
Mike
huh.
01:06:48.86
Bill
I was Catholic. Like you just said, you know, which is all these things.
01:06:49.88
Mike
Uh huh. Right.
01:06:52.55
Bill
And I'm like, yeah, okay. what One way or the other. I mean, I, cause Kathy grew up in the same culture. She's not a raging fucking alcoholic or drug addict, you know?
01:06:57.70
Mike
Right. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
01:06:59.88
Bill
So at least as far as we know.
01:07:00.54
Mike
Exactly. Right. I'm pretty sure.
01:07:05.36
Bill
I'm pretty sure too. If, if it comes out that she's been hiking all these years, good job, Kathy.
01:07:09.02
Mike
ya
01:07:09.74
Bill
You're you're you, you get the award.
01:07:10.08
Mike
Right.
01:07:11.99
Bill
You're better than the two of us. That's for goddamn sure.
01:07:13.35
Mike
Yeah, damn right. Because we weren't fooling anybody.
01:07:16.92
Bill
No, not, not at all. Okay. So this is the last thing. And this is just a, this won't take long. I don't think you'll hate this, but you, you may, you may.
01:07:24.03
Mike
but There's always a chance.
01:07:25.57
Bill
um Yeah, so this is ah this is, it's time for a rock roll talk with Sober, Not But Sure and Bill and Mike.
01:07:32.39
Mike
All right.
01:07:33.38
Bill
So this is the seven most iconic classic rock intros of all time.
01:07:38.76
Mike
Okay. Uh-huh.
01:07:40.65
Bill
Um, and you know, the funny part is, is I don't think these are, don't think these are numbered in any particular order, but anyhow.
01:07:47.41
Mike
Okay.
01:07:47.97
Bill
So, um, what's your opinion on the band Boston and the song foreplay? Cause that's one of them on on on the list for play going into long time. Do you like Boston? Yes. No indifferent.
01:07:56.96
Mike
Okay. Okay. that okay
01:08:00.24
Bill
Okay.
01:08:00.61
Mike
Yeah. I mean, it's not really a band, but it's like a guy that, you know, did all that.
01:08:00.92
Bill
And
01:08:05.22
Mike
But yeah, you know, it's all right.
01:08:06.11
Bill
was it really?
01:08:07.06
Mike
Yeah. Yeah. That was his Tom Schultz shots. Schultz. Yeah. um Yeah. I mean, he pretty much that that first album he did by himself in his basement.
01:08:18.35
Bill
Did he really? So, okay.
01:08:19.10
Mike
Yeah.
01:08:19.80
Bill
I, I didn't, I didn't know that. And you know what, that, um, that first album, we were living in Parma at the time, I believe when that came out, cause that would have been early seventies.
01:08:26.30
Mike
Mm hmm. Oh, that's why you're drunk. You lived in Parma.
01:08:30.60
Bill
Yes. no There we go. Yeah. Polish Parma pierogies.
01:08:32.08
Mike
Right. Right. Yeah.
01:08:33.73
Bill
I probably had a pierogie. I don't even fucking remember it, but, um, yeah, that was actually one.
01:08:35.85
Mike
Right.
01:08:38.89
Bill
I mean that to this day, that, that album reminds me of high school. Yes. Cause we listened to Boston high school, but, um, I mean, it literally reminds me of that, that timeframe. Okay. So that that's one, um, crazy train Ozzy.
01:08:48.88
Mike
right
01:08:52.94
Mike
ah her
01:08:56.76
Bill
Okay. Uh, next one, the immigrant song, Led Zeppelin, of course.
01:08:57.88
Mike
yeah andhuh right
01:09:01.56
Bill
Okay. These are supposed to be again, like, should I read the title again to bring back some of the excitement?
01:09:04.97
Mike
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the intros. Yeah, I got it. Yeah, okay.
01:09:09.84
Bill
I just, I just didn't know if you were clear on what we were talking about here. I just wanted to, just want to make it clear.
01:09:12.42
Mike
Yeah.
01:09:14.89
Bill
Um, crazy on you by heart.
01:09:17.13
Mike
Sure.
01:09:18.02
Bill
ah Okay. then Um, hang on. to gotta be more, um, fat bottom girls, queen.
01:09:24.16
Mike
me
01:09:25.10
Bill
Okay. That was a, okay.
01:09:26.02
Mike
Far better ones. Yeah.
01:09:28.97
Bill
Was that, God, was that seven already? I hope so. Cause I can't take any more of that. I think I'm, Oh, wish you were here. Pink Floyd. I know you hate Pink Floyd.
01:09:35.04
Mike
Yeah. well yeah
01:09:36.56
Bill
Um, and, uh, was that it? That was it. Yeah. Okay. Well, um, Oh, dire straits money for nothing.
01:09:40.60
Mike
Okay. be
01:09:44.22
Bill
I didn't think you'd like dire straits. so
01:09:46.39
Mike
No.
01:09:46.81
Bill
Okay. So, um, I'm glad I'm glad we're good.
01:09:50.21
